Here’s how it all works:

Location: www.katemessner.com/blog (Post Category: TeachersWrite) New posts will be shared each weekday morning, and you can check in whenever it’s convenient.

Dates: June 4th- August 10th

You can join in for a week or a few or for the whole time.  Just go on over to Kate's blog for all the details and the first lesson today:  Making Time to Write

Upta Camp

counter create hit

I'm having a glorious time at Poland Spring Campground. I've taken lots of notes and lots of photos.

Yesterday, Julia and I went kayaking and enjoyed watching the bald eagles feeding their triplets.

And this morning, I got up really early and went kayaking with the loons by myself.

They swam alongside me for awhile, like we were racing.

They won!

Five Things on a Friday

Mist rising off the lake at Poland Spring Campground, Maine

1.  Today I'm off to Poland Spring Campground to spend time with writer friends.
Though it's supposed to rain tomorrow, I'm hoping the weather will cooperate enough for me to go kayaking and to take my notebook down to the lake early Sunday morning to write sensory details for my novel.

2.  My daughter and I both love "So You Think You Can Dance."  It's the summer TV show we always watch together.

3.  Speaking of Julia, she is checking out a housing possibility for graduate school on Sunday.  I'm thrilled for her and in denial that she's leaving at the same time!!!

4.   Thank you to the librarians of New Jersey for putting Touch Blue on the 2013-14 Garden State Children's Book Award list!

5.  And today, Touch Blue officially comes out in paperback!

Week Off!

counter create hit I did about 50 school visits and other book-related events this past year, and now that summer has come, it's writing time.  But first, I have a wonderful week off. My book is scheduled to return to me for a revision next week.  So this week, I'm catching up with friends, my garden, reading, my family, my critique partners, Milo.

And the little friend who lives here amongst the clover, moss, and tiny strawberries that grow wild all over our backyard.

This hole is not far from a bench where I like to sit outside and read. Yesterday, I was finishing Following Atticus, a true story of a man who climbed all of New Hampshire's 4000+ feet peaks during the winter to raise money for charity.  He did all those hikes with his small dog leading the way.

As I read, my own small dog lay in the grass near my feet. And every now and then, a little black-striped, chestnut head would poke up out of that hole in the ground to check if we were still there.

He likes to forage under the birdfeeders, because the squirrels are messy eaters, and they spill even more as they leap at the feeders, trying to get in or grab hold.

This weekend, I'm going to see my friend, Tami, whose family owns Poland Spring Campground. I'm looking forward to seeing friends and also the loons and turtles and eagles that live on the lake.  But until then, I'm enjoying glancing up from my garden or my book to see my own little wildlife.

I went to Lowes yesterday to buy some daisies.

But I couldn't resist the delphiniums.
