RUTH AND BOAZ (Are You Really Ready For Love?)

Greetings! This is one of the essays I have included in my newest release, Adam Was A Punk!. I not only hope you find it enjoyable and informative, but I pray it also brings you one step closer to a meaningful relationship and walk with God.

"RUTH AND BOAZ (Are You Really Ready For Love?)

Today, it is extremely difficult to be single and also be a faithful Christian.  Especially when we see what the media bombards us, and our children, with on a constant basis – images of adultery, fornication, homosexuality, lying, cheating, murder, etc. in many of our favorite television shows, magazines, music, etc.  It can seem like no one is paying attention to – or even caring – what God’s Word has to say in all these situations.  But as Christians, we have to live in this world, and try to honor God with our minds, our hearts and our bodies – and I hope this essay will give us some hope and strength to do just that.  I draw my strength from the story of Naomi, Ruth and Boaz (Book of Ruth) and Proverbs 31, which tells of the characteristics of a Noble Wife.

But first, to understand where I was, to where living under the word of God has taken me, I must admit that I was once very much OUT THERE.  I am going to bare my soul here.  I thought that because I loved my boyfriend, that God would forgive me of the sins of fornication, living together without the benefit of marriage, reasoning that times have changed, and since God knows that, He will forgive and bless me because EVERYONE is doing it.  I had been married, but prior to that I was in several long-term relationships, but when they ended I still continued seeing them as ‘friends with benefits’, because I had a ‘need’ that had to be satiated, and they did too. I also had been involved in an abusive relationship, and at one time even sold sex toys and lingerie to help make ends meet.  Truthfully speaking, I loved sex, had a very strong drive and could not even fathom my life without it, no matter how it came, not to mention other sins. However, society said I wasn’t a bad person, and I went along with life in the fast lane, and being quite comfortable in that life – for awhile.

Until one day it became very clear I was getting NOWHERE living this way.  I found myself alone, divorced, with three children to raise – and very empty inside.  What was I missing?  What was I going to do to fill that huge – and widening – void in my life? Jesus Christ was the ANSWER!

On the invitation of a friend of mine (now my Pastor’s wife) and a cousin, on a clear day in August, 2007, I attended a sermon at what would become my church home, and it changed my life.  I continued to attend, and learned more about Who God really is, and what He could do for my life if I would just surrender it to Him – and on December 16, 2007, I did just that.  I surrendered my life to Him and His will, and my life has become all the more rich and full for it.  PRAISE AND GLORY BE TO GOD!

I now consider myself a ‘Ruth’, waiting on my ‘Boaz’ to redeem me.  God had a LOT of work to do on me to get me to this point, and I know He is still working on me, but as I go on living my life to honor Him more and more, I know He will present me with the man He has for me, in His time.  But I must live my life for Him in order for Him to deliver the desires of my heart – to be married and live happily ever after.  “Seek FIRST the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.”  Matthew 6:33.

I first had to tackle the truth that GOD DOES NOT CHANGE (Malachi 3:6; James 1:17 and Numbers 23:19).  That means that WE must conform to HIS ways and His will, He does NOT conform to ours!  So my former reasoning was indeed flawed, to say the least; it was dead WRONG! We have to renew our minds and not let this WORLD dictate our actions, thoughts and emotions.

What inspires me about Ruth’s story is that God had made a way for not only her to be redeemed and find love again, but after Naomi (her mother-in-law) had lost both her sons and her husband, God had redeemed her too, out of Ruth’s faith, obedience, loyalty and love for NAOMI and HER God, YHWH.

As explained in the Book of Ruth in our Holy Bible, Naomi and Elimelech (her husband), who were from Bethlehem in Judah, had taken up residence in Moab with their family, sons Mahlon and Kilion, where the Moabites had their own customs and gods they worshiped in their land.  Their sons had taken two Moabite women, Ruth and Orpah, for their wives.  Eventually Elimelech, Mahlon and Kilion were all killed, leaving all three women widows.

With her family gone, Naomi prepares to return to Bethlehem and bids her daughters-in-law goodbye, but Ruth refuses to stay with her people and declares,“Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay.  Your people will be my people, and your God will be my God. Where you die I will die and there I will be buried.  May the Lord deal with me, be it ever so severely, if anything but death separates you and me.”Ruth 1:16-17.  Her loyalty and dedication to Ruth indicates not only her love for and loyalty to Naomi, who according to Jewish custom is reduced to living in abject poverty since she too old to marry or have children to care for her, but also to God, Who saw this and was pleased.  It is an early indication that as long as one believes in and obeys God’s will and worships Him, one does NOT have to be born of Hebrew descent to receive His blessings!

Now Ruth went out to the fields of Boaz, a relative of Elimelech, to pick up the scraps of harvested barley that is left behind from the workers so that she and Naomi can eat. Boaz, who has heard by now of the loyalty and kindness of Ruth toward Naomi, became smitten with her, told her not to go anywhere else to gather food.  Not only did he tell her that she is welcome there and to follow his servant girls, Boaz told the men to intentionally leave behind grain for her to pick up so she and Naomi can eat.  Naomi, knowing that Boaz is a kinsman-redeemer (a relative who could marry and provide security for a widow), instructed Ruth, “Wash and perfume yourself and put on your best clothes. Then go down to the threshing floor, but don’t let him know you are there until he has finished eating and drinking.  When he lies down, note the place where he is lying. Then go and uncover his feet and lie down. He will tell you what to do.” Ruth 3:3-4.

She obeyed and did as Naomi instructed, then stated to Boaz in verse 9, “Spread the corner of your garment over me, since you are a kinsman-redeemer.”

Boaz was impressed, and Ruth showed she was a woman of noble standing, verses 10-14;  “This kindness is greater than that which you showed earlier; you have not run after the younger men, whether rich or poor. And now, my daughter, don’t be afraid. I will do for you all you ask. All my fellow townsmen know that you are a woman of noble character.  Although it is true that I am near of kin, there is a kinsman-redeemer nearer than I.  Stay here for the night, and in the morning if he wants to redeem, good, let him redeem. But if he is not willing, as surely as the Lord lives I will do it.”

Again, Ruth’s obedience and loyalty to Naomi, her customs and her God, further led to eventual marriage of Ruth to Boaz. After he made sure that a closer relative would not do it, Boaz took Ruth for his own wife and, according to Hebrew laws, redeemed both Ruth and Naomi, since they would now both be well cared for by Boaz.  They did everything right, and they did it God’s way!

This story gives me inspiration to continue on my path to finally receive my Boaz, but I also want to be PREPARED to be a proper wife once God blesses me with him. For that I turn to Proverbs 31, which spells out how to be a Wife of Noble Character who is worth “far more than rubies” (verse 10). I especially take note of verses 11-12, “Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value. She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life,” and verses 23,“Her husband is respected at the city gate, where he takes his seat among the elders of the land,” and 30, “Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised”.  ALL of Proverbs 31 is important, but I think these verses really sum it up for me, and how I should conduct myself, even BEFORE becoming a wife.  God had to let me know what is expected of a Godly wife and put it into practice beforehand, so that once he blesses me with my husband, I will be ready and know how to properly praise Him by knowing how to care for a husband, our family and myself.

Now, what lessons have I learned by studying the Scriptures, and how do I apply them to my life? There are many to be sure, but here are some basic truths that I have learned and strive to live by:

1.    HONOR GOD WITH MY BODY:  That means in ALL aspects – keeping it clean, well groomed, and REFRAIN from sex outside of marriage.  The sex was a BIGGIE for me! To think that if I never get married, I would never have sex again was a REAL stretch for me – but now I have grown beyond that. One thing I know is that I love God enough to give up the ONE thing I found hardest to give up – and He has kept His promise that He would never leave me nor forsake me, and my life is much richer for this VERY reason.  Now that sex, and the emotional ties that go along with it, are not in the picture, I am able to see things and people CLEARLY, and recognize and avoid relationships that are doomed from the start. When a person sees that you are convicted and saving yourself for your mate, the potential suitor will either step up to the plate – or leave you alone.  This way you don’t waste too much time with men who have less than honorable intentions.  Oh, they may test your resolve, but stand firm and you will truly know who is for you, and who is simply out for themselves. Not only that, you are ensuring your salvation, as well as your partner’s, and also allowing yourself to get to know each other on a RELATIONSHIP level to see if you are evenly yoked.  If so, then things can proceed naturally to marriage.  If not, well perhaps you got in a good movie, or a nice dinner or two in the process - and perhaps a convert to Christ!

2.    CONDUCT MYSELF AS A GODLY WOMAN: Society’s idea of ‘The Strong Black Woman’ is over-rated.  What we need to be focusing on is what kind of woman does GOD want us to be? As it states in 1 Corinthians 11:3, “But I want you to know that the head of every man is Christ, the head of woman is man, and the head of Christ is God.”  Which means as he is to love and protect us women, we have to honor, obey and respect the man if he is living in love and obedience to Christ. We can’t be going around calling men ‘dogs’, cussing them out and telling them they are no good, while we run rampant and try to dominate them in our relationships.

We are truly only strong if we uplift our men, respect them, take care of home and raise our children, and be their helpmate.  They will respond in kind by WANTING to come home and be with us and their families, if they are TRULY Godly men. If a man wants to be with you, nothing will keep him from you.  If you feel you have to search through his phone, repeatedly drive by his house, check up on him at work, rifle through his email or Facebook page to see if he’s cheating on you, etc. – either he’s not worth it or you’re not ready for the relationship.  Rather than pull your hair out, let it go and find a person deserving of what you have to offer, and work on yourself in the process.  Mutual trust is a MUST in any relationship, be it a friend or a mate. We also have to conduct ourselves in a Godly manner by refraining from profanity, dressing modestly, and behaving maturely and respectfully towards all. Proverbs 31:10-30, as well as Galatians 5:22-24 spell out very well how we are supposed to behave in Christ. We have to conform to God’s ideal, NOT man’s, and we will have our just reward – in His time, not ours.

3.    LET GOD’S HOLY SPIRIT SHINE IN YOU FOR ALL TO SEE: God is Love.  God’s ways are not our ways and His thoughts are not our thoughts; His ways make no sense to the world, but they are essential for OUR very existence.  To get Love, you must GIVE Love.  To get money, you must GIVE your money – to help someone else. To solve your problems, help someone else solve THEIR problems.  To receive blessings, you must GIVE of yourself to help another – in LOVE.  That, in itself, is the greatest blessing of all – to be able to BLESS someone else in love, in God’s name.  There is no greater love than sacrifice of oneself to give to their friend (John 15:13) – and no greater blessing, for God will never leave us nor forsake us, His children.  He sees all and will reward in kind – “And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:19.

First Chapter of my book, 'EVERYBODY PLAYZ THA FOOL'

Greetings, All!

I have recently re-edited and re-released my novel, Everybody Playz Tha Fool. So that you can make a more informed decision about reading or purchasing for yourself, I am posting the first chapter of the book below. My book is now available for sale on Amazon and Kindle, and the link is at the end of this blog. Thank you so much for taking the time to read this chapter, and comments are always welcome. Have a great day! RMG

"Episode 1

Stacy pulled up to the mall entrance and spotted Sheila standing there waiting, loaded down with lots of packages and shopping bags after a marathon Christmas shopping trip. Stopping the car in front of her, Stacy’s 6 ft. 3 inch frame looked handsome in a blue pinstripe tailored suit with matching silver shirt and tie, short curly cropped hair freshly cut and lined. Effortlessly Stacy emerged from the smallish, emerald green Lexus to first open the door and help Sheila sit inside the car, then stacked the packages in the trunk before sliding back behind the driver’s seat.

“Looks like you bought out the mall, Girl! What you got in all those packages back there?” asked Stacy.

“That is my entire Christmas shopping trip – what I didn’t get today just ain’t gettin’ got!’ said an exhausted Sheila. “Sorry if I forgot anybody, but I will NOT set foot in another store until AFTER Christmas – unless I get hungry!”

“Well you’re better than me. I sent my parents, my brother and sisters gift cards because I just can’t deal with the shopping thing. Let everybody get what they want, with no stress on me. As a matter of fact, I got YOU a gift card too, but I’d rather TAKE you shopping and get you what you want – I don’t mind doing that for you,” said Stacy.

“Oh, that’s so sweet, but you know you didn’t have to give me anything. Your friendship is good enough for me!” said Sheila.

“But I WANT to get you something, and see the look on your face. I LIKE seeing you happy,” said Stacy, while looking over Sheila’s petite 5’3” frame, clad in jeans and a tight fitting, black knit shirt. She was no more than a size 3. It was 72 degrees on a comfortable Jacksonville evening, three days before Christmas, so Stacy got an eyeful of her cute, curvy figure. Little does she know that Stacy has wanted to be MORE than just her friend for quite some time.

‘Man would I LOVE to get some of that, but she’s been my best friend forever, and that is more precious to me than anything. But I gotta admit, girlfriend is hot as SHIT!’ These thoughts ran through Stacy’s mind constantly, but the fact remained that after ten years of being best friends, maintaining that friendship is the most precious thing of all – however it’s very hard when you want someone so bad…

“I just hope Jonas likes what I got him. He’s so particular,” said Sheila.

Just the mere mention of Jonas’ name sparked anger and thoughts of bewilderment inside of Stacy. ‘Her cheatin’, lyin’ ass boyfriend… what the hell does she see in him? I just don’t understand it – she deserves better. If there was any way I could get rid of his ass, I know I could make her happy…’

“Does he really make you happy?” asked Stacy.

“Yes, he does. Don’t worry about me, OK? I’m fine,” said Sheila.

“I worry about you because you’re my friend and I care about you. I can’t help it,” answered Stacy as they rolled up in Sheila’s driveway. Stacy got out the car, helped Sheila out, gathered the packages from the trunk and carried them into the house. When they opened the door, Jonas was in the living room on the couch watching TV. They were slightly startled because neither one of them expected him to be home, since his car wasn’t in the driveway.

Stacy and Jonas locked eyes and stared each other down. There was definitely no love lost between the two.

“What are you doing home? Where’s your car?” asked Sheila.

“I live here, and my sister has my car - she went shopping,” said Jonas dryly. “Where were you and what were YOU doing?”

“Isn’t it obvious? I just finished Christmas shopping,” answered Sheila, and then she pointed to the table in the corner near the Christmas tree and said to Stacy, “Would you put those bags over here for me, please?”

“Sure,” answered Stacy, and placed the bags on the table and the floor beneath. “Is there anything else I can do for you?”

“You can get the fuck out of my house!” Jonas shot back.

“I didn’t ask you, muthafucca! I was talking to Sheila. This is HER house too,” Stacy shot right back at him.

Jonas got up from the couch, walked over and stood directly in front of Stacy. He was a good three inches shorter, but a little more muscular, and it seemed Stacy’s height didn’t intimidate Jonas in the least.

“You better get your bitch ass out my face before you make me hurt you, nigga,” said Stacy menacingly to Jonas.

“Look who’s calling who a BITCH!” said Jonas right back. “Nigga, you in MY house, and I will fuck you up right here and NOW, punk ass muthafucca!”

“HOLD IT! Please stop, y’all!” Sheila pleaded loudly to both Stacy and Jonas. “Stacy, it’s time for you to go now, OK? I’m fine,” Sheila said pleadingly again after turning and pointing toward the door.

The anger that welled up inside of Stacy was nearly uncontrollable, but out of love and respect for Sheila, it was kept at bay. “OK, I’ll go now, because you asked me. But I am here for you if you ever need me, OK baby Girl?” Stacy said while staring directly into Jonas’ eyes.

“She don’t need yo’ ass. She’s got ME!” Jonas said angrily as he stared back.

Stacy chuckled a bit, looked Jonas up and down, and then said while staring directly into Jonas’ eyes, “Yeah, Right,” then stepped away and headed for the door that Sheila was holding open by then. Stacy gave her a kiss on the cheek while walking out the door, and Sheila then closed it behind her.

Jonas stepped up to Sheila and started yelling in her face. “Why didn’t you ask ME to take you Christmas shopping? You needed that fuckin’ freak to go with you?!”

“Stacy didn’t go with me…” Sheila began to say.

“BULLSHIT!” yelled Jonas, and while walking slowly away Stacy heard a loud crash and could clearly hear Sheila crying on the other side of the door. Stacy stuck around listening to them argue for a long time, trying to make sure Sheila wasn’t hurt before finally walking away, getting in the car and driving home...

Anger and revenge was on Stacy’s mind all the way to the apartment. ‘If I can just get rid of that punk ass, then her life would be good – I can make sure she’s happy’, she thought. She took off her tailor-made suit, went to the bathroom and splashed some water on her face, and walked back to her bed in a men’s white wife-beater and boxers. She opened the drawer next to her bed, then removed the shiny steel pearl-handled pistol she purchased the other day – just for Jonas’ ass! She placed it back in the drawer and tried to get the argument she heard between Sheila and Jonas out of her mind.

‘Ain’t nobody gonna hurt somebody I love and get away with it! Over my got-damned dead body’… Stacy thought as she closed her eyes and finally drifted off to sleep. "

Excerpt from 'EVERYBODY PLAYZ THA FOOL'

I have just re-edited and re-released my first novel,Everybody Playz Tha Fool, and I promise you that this book will have you on the edge of your seat! To prove it, here is an excerpt:

"Jonas, Blu and Big Dawg drove from Jacksonville to New York, and arrived about noon the next day. They located Juice almost immediately, at a bar off 138th Street and Lenox Avenue. He had secured a place for them to stay off 134th Street to rest up for the evening’s activities. In the meantime, Juice had given Big Dawg information about where to find Iceman, and Juice told him he would call once he knew Iceman was there. All they had to do now was relax and wait for the call.

“Hey, where are all the honeys at?” Jonas asked Blu and Big Dawg, as he looked out the window. “I saw some fine Yams walking around when we were over by the bar, but hardly any of them seem to be ova here on this street!”

“We didn’t come here to get ass, muthafucca. We came here to do a job and that’s exactly what we’re gonna to do,” said Blu.

“Hey, you guys have been getting some pussy on the regular, and my shit has been shut down for way too long. I’m ready for some action, satisfaction and a piece so good it will leave me in traction!” said Jonas.

“What, Lenny’s dick wasn’t enough 'action to put you in traction' nigga?” said Blu, and he slapped Big Dawg’s hand as they both laughed out loud at Jonas.

“Very funny, muthafucka - fuck both of ya‘ll,” said Jonas, now embarrassed and wishing he had not said anything now.

“Look, we came here for a purpose, and we are here to carry out that purpose then get the fuck outta dodge. So sit back and relax, watch some TV or some shit. Your time is comin’…” said Big Dawg.

Jonas was getting real tired of Poppy and his crew punking him out all the time. He just got up, went over to the love seat in front of the TV, turned it on, sat down, and fell asleep after about a half hour.

The call came in about 9:30 PM. They were all sitting around the kitchen table eating Chinese food that Blu had ordered.

“Yeah, we’ll be there in about 30 minutes. Keep your eye on him and make sure he doesn’t leave,” Big Dawg said into the receiver, and hung up. “Ok, we gotta move, grab your shit because we ain’t comin’ back here.” They all grabbed their stuff, put it in their overnight bags, and headed out.

They drove up to a dingy little building on 142nd Street that housed a small social club on the ground floor. The club was dark and smoky, had a TV up in one corner of the room, a pool table across the room. Old wooden tables & chairs were scattered around the room, where a few people were playing cards, talking or drinking and listening to the music from the jukebox. The three men walked in and saw a tall, thin, dark-skinned man leaning against the wall, talking with two ladies. He had a grill in gold across his front teeth.

“That’s him,” Blu said to Big Dawg and Jonas in a low whisper. They slowly walked in and approached him.

Iceman looked up and saw the men approaching him. His eyes grew big with recognition when he saw Blu. He knew what they were coming for, and he had no place to run.

“What’s up, Blu?” Iceman said, trying not to appear nervous. He nodded at the other two.

“We gotta talk,” said Blu. “Come with us.”

“Well, as you can see, I was just speaking with these ladies,” Iceman pointed to the two women, who were obviously prostitutes.

“Your conversation just ended,” said Blu to Iceman. He turned to the ladies. “We have some important business with this gentleman. Will you excuse us?”

“OK, big man,” said one of the women while rubbing on Blu’s shoulder, admiring his physique. “See ya, Ice,” the woman said to Iceman and both women walked away while looking back, obviously admiring the three men.

“Let’s go,” said Blu to Iceman as the women walked away.

Iceman knew his time was up. Blu walked toward the door of the club, followed by Iceman. Big Dawg walked directly behind Iceman and Jonas followed behind. He could feel something wasn’t quite right. What the hell is going on? Jonas wondered.

They took Iceman to an abandoned building a few doors away, and walked into an empty room. There were used crack vials all over the floor.

“Pop’s been waiting for his money an awfully long time,” Blu stated. “It’s time to pay up.”

“Man, you know my business went down,” Iceman stated. “I’m trying to get it started back up so I can give the money back…”

“Well now, you know that doesn’t sit very well with Pop. Been trying to contact you for almost a year, but you skipped out. We just happened to find you, so if you can’t pay one way… you will damn sure pay another. Right here, right now,” stated Blu, then he pulled out his chrome .44 and pointed it directly at Iceman’s head.

OH SHIT! Jonas exclaimed to himself, as fear welled up inside him. What the fuck are they trying to mix me up in?!

“Please man, please! Give me some more time, please,” pleaded Iceman for his life. “I’ll get Poppy his money back – I SWEAR I WILL!”

“You had a year, BITCH. Time’s up,” said Blu again, still holding the gun to Iceman’s temple. Big Dawg also had his gun trained on him. Then he turned to Big Dawg and said, “Yo, give Jonas your gun.”

Big Dawg walked over to Jonas and placed the gun in Jonas' hand, pointed directly at Iceman.

What the fuck is THIS? Jonas wondered to himself, staring at the gun.

“OK Jonas, time to prove yourself. Go ahead and drop this dude… or else I’m gonna drop YOU!” said Blu.

Jonas stood there with the gun in his hand, looking into the pleading eyes of a man he doesn’t know or have anything against. He has to kill this man… or be killed himself.

What the fuck do I do now?

New Release, Summer 2013!

Greetings, everyone!

This is R.M. Green, author, publisher and CEO of SAFE HAVEN PUBLISHING COMPANY. I just wanted to introduce myself, and alert you to an upcoming new release from the Company this Summer 2013 of my sophomore novel, 'SHE COULD HEAR THE SILENCE'. Five friends, who lead very different lives, face devastating life challenges, and all begin to question their faith. Who will receive the VICTORY?
LOOK FOR IT on the Company website, http://www.safehavenpubco.com/, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Books-A-Million, and all other major booksellers everywhere this SUMMER!

Here's a short excerpt:

"DAPHNE

Daphne had a lot on her mind as she drove back to her estate near Springfield, Virginia. It was great to finally see and be with her old college friends, and get a chance to break the monotony of being at home – alone. No one knew how much she yearned to break free of her boring, lonely life. How did Janae put it?

“How did you manage to break out of that ‘prison’ you call home, Daphne?”

Janae was only joking, but she just didn’t know how right she was. Yes, she was able to go out and buy practically anything she wanted; her husband just landed a $15 million contract to play four more years for the Wizards. She lived on a private, guarded estate and had both a Benz, which she drove herself, and a chauffeured Maybach at her disposal any time she wanted. She possessed a closet full of designer clothes, jewelry, Prada shoes and does not want for anything – material. Her husband always provided for her and the boys well.

But she would trade ALL of her possessions for the two things she craved most – affection and peace of mind.

How much longer can I go on living like this? She thought to herself, as she pulled in the long, circular driveway, walked up the steps and opened the door to her own private hell."

Your thoughts and comments are welcome. Looking forward to hearing from you!
