do it for the kitties! (as Four Star Video Heaven says about their damage protection option)

Three of my four cats are rescues, and I am doing my best for the feral cats in my neighborhood (I've had up to five regulars at any one time for the food I put out daily on our porch, and got three of them in to be neutered and vaccinated this spring). So it is inevitable that I will post this link: City Kitties Art Auction, to benefit the homeless cats of West Philadelphia.

One of the items up for auction is this gorgeous print by Kyle Cassidy: Neil Gaiman and Zoe.

I fucked up again.

See [info:] sparkymonster's account here.

I have apologized to [info:] karnythia (here) and [info:] thewayoftheid (here).

I am not posting this because I want people to defend me. I am posting it because I want to acknowledge publicly that, hello, yes, I screwed up and I know it and I'm sorry.

ETA: And when I say I don't want people to defend me, what I mean is, Please don't.

ETA2: Comments have been turned off.

Q&A 32

Because people keep asking plaintively, let me make the announcement again:

The Virtu is out of print in both hardback and paperback. My agent has made a formal protest on my behalf with Ace, and we are now waiting to see what Ace decides to do. I am just as frustrated by this state of affairs as you are.

Q: What is the difference between the obligation de sang and the obligation d'ame? i get that the first is the 'binding by blood' and the second is the 'binding by forms.'

Also, the part of me tha

Q&A 31, post-WisCon edition

WisCon is a blur of awesomeness. Hello to everybody I never quite managed to catch up with!

Also, Jo Walton ( [info:] papersky) reviews Mélusine , The Virtu , The Mirador , and Corambis for Tor.com.

Q:Did the idea of actually letting Felix and Mildmay be a couple go through your mind?

A: Never seriously. Mildmay is straight.

Q: Do you think there's a possibility that someday you'll give us a new story with Felix, Mildmay & co., or that takes place in the same universe?

A: I make no efforts to predict what my bra

geek!

Griffith Stadium pen here. SO GEEKED. (There's a funny little flaw in the wood that makes me believe this beautifully polished and glowing pen barrel really was once a seat in a baseball stadium.) I like Pelikan's Brilliant Green (that being the color of cartridge I chose, mostly at random), the pen is pleasingly heavy, and it writes nicely. WIKTORY.

Off in mere moments to meet [info:] oursin for lunch and show her some of Madison. SO GEEKED.

GEEKED, I tell you.

An imponderable, word-crunching edition

At the moment, I have three word processors on my computer: MS Word 2000, WordPerfect 12, and Open Office 3.0. As you (may) know, oh interweb-Bob, I loathe Word with a white-hot passion. So why, you ask, do I have it on my system?

An excellent question, interweb-Bob! I'm so glad you asked.

Originally, I only had WP. I've used WP for years and years; I like it in direct correlation to the degree which it differs from Word. (This means, of course, because WP has been handed through a succession of i

Q&A 30, plus other divers matters

The dreams about failing high school calculus HAVE GOT TO STOP. Especially like the one I had last night, in which I dreamed I was failing high school calculus and then woke up to discover it was true. ARGH.

Made progress on the new wolf book yesterday. Let's be generous and call it 500 words. Which is 500 more words than I've written in a kind of appallingly long time.

The indefatigable [info:] fidelioscabinet has found an awesome photo-reference for Mehitabel. This is Natalia Alexandrova Pushkina, the y

FOC_U's Shatter the Silence Day

Nalo Hopkinson has posted a brilliant essay about being a person of color in the SF community as part of [info:] foc_u's effort, both protest and celebration, to increase the visibility of people of color within SF fandom.

Sundry items

1. There's a short interview with me up at Grinding to Valhalla.

2. Serendipitously, I have found an example of omniscient which involves switching PoV within a paragraph and yet is quite distinct from head-hopping. These are the opening lines of Georgette Heyer's The Toll-Gate:
The sixth Earl of Saltash glanced round the immense dining table, and was conscious of a glow of satisfaction. It was an emotion not shared by his butler, or his steward, each of whom had served the Fifth Earl, and remembe
