"Based on estimated traffic data from Compete, this visualization depicts web-based music consumption in the U.S. in 2010. Included are websites where music is streamed and/or downloaded. Due to accurate sample rate availability (and in the interest of sanity) websites with less than 100,000 monthly visits are omitted. The map is to scale. Larger map areas represent higher website traffic. Green indicates positive growth in 2010. Red indicates negative growth in 2010."

Music For Thomas Carnacki
Jon Brooks' music for the recent radio adaptation of one of William Hope Hodgson's beloved "Carnacki" stories. If you're not aware of Carnacki, and somehow don't have the strength to Google, be advised that the man is a sort of supernatural Sherlock Holmes of the Edwardian era, armed with skepticism, vast occult knowledge and electric pentagrams. Brooks' accompaniment is nothing short of perfect. Click through to buy your own download of the work for a most reasonable price.

Cognitive Cities Conference, Berlin, Feb 26
As announced at this link here, I'm the closing keynote speaker at the Cognitive Cities Conference in Berlin on Feb 26. Other speakers not unknown to regular readers here include Adam Greenfield and Ben Hammersley.
It's a lightning trip for me — I'm back on a plane on the morning of the 27th — and I'm really only there to rant about ghosts and UFOs for 30 minutes, get fresh intel from the other speakers, work and drink beer.
If you're in town and you fancy it, there are still tickets available, and, apart from me, the list of speakers is really quite excellent.

The Last WIRED UK Column
My last ever WIRED UK column has just pushed live to their website, for your free reading "pleasure." It's been a fun run. Thanks again to Ben Hammersley, David Rowan, Joao Medeiros and all for letting me play there.
I felt compelled to inform them that, in a less enlightened time, "doing this to a writer would be tantamount to declaring war on the Arts themselves. Hemingway would have shot you for this. Gertrude Stein would have whittled herself a death phallus out of a marrow and hate-shagged you until you saw Jesus wearing a pair of Alice B Toklas's jodhpurs. Fortunately for you, however, I am a man of the 21st century. And so I will merely wee in your lift. Consider yourself chastised."
