Plunge or Plane?

A shout out to all diehard Rhode Islanders who will partake in Rhode Island’s 41st Annual Penguin Plunge on January 1, 2017, 12 noon at Roger Wheeler State Beach in Narragansett for the worthy cause of Special Olympics, RI.

All that thrashing in the brine will create a flash-in-the-pan splash preserved on all the local news channels.

An Indie author, I’ve taken a few too many foolhardy plunges into the brine for the worthy cause of marketing and promoting my recent release in the genre of Contemporary Women’s Fiction: AN ENLIGHTENING QUICHE (Paperback – August 22, 2016; Kindle Edition – September 20, 2016).

Shared in a previous blog—my one-month Book Blast with “Pump Up Your Book” from November 7 – 30 was a bust, my being the only elephant loitering in the blog rooms! I also threw away more money I’ve yet to earn from book sales on paid promotional venues such as eBookSoda, People Reads, and The Fussy Librarian, though I’m inclined to stick with the latter in the upcoming year.

Rather than plunge headfirst into shark-infested waters, I intend to plane in 2017. For starters, I have three upcoming author interviews and three promissory book reviews—Long and Short Reviews; LILbooKlovers; The Empty Pages. I am also waiting in the wings for reviews from those still reading my novel, thus far having accrued two 4-Star and thirteen 5-Star reviews at Amazon.

I’ll be planing and soaring with high hopes at each local library book signing event I’m hosting throughout the months of January and February in the New Year. I’ll be sure to encourage attendees to consider inviting me to any future speaking engagements.

While I still can’t predict the potential for success from any marketing strategy I’m willing to try, nothing beats word of mouth in creating a ripple effect which is longer lasting and more profound than a momentary splash!

Therein lies my determination to roll with the punches on my terms and timeframe.

Best wishes for a prosperous and productive year ahead!

Renewing Self-Belief

Underlying Notes by Eva Pasco

An Enlightening Quiche by Eva Pasco

100 Wild Mushrooms Memoirs of the ‘60s by Eva Pasco

Once Upon A Fabulous Time... by R.M. Gauthier

Although Easter is a religious holiday commemorating the resurrection of Jesus, the buck doesn’t stop there. Easter behooves one to reflect upon the themes of rebirth, reinvention, or renewal as deemed necessary by each individual.

For me, it’s renewing self-belief.

In what?

My capacity as a writer.

Why?

Because it’s so easy to get sidelined if you’re not grounded in the courage of your convictions. Hence, I’m renewing self-belief in my capacity as a writer who navigates the arduous course that comes with the territory of self-publication.
~
I will continue to take unsolicited advice from the so-called “experts” with a grain of salt.

I will continue to progress along my Work in Progress at my own pace, reaching “the end,” when my characters are ready, and not before.

I will continue to keep the faith that book sales are forthcoming as a result of the merit of my writing—without my offering them for “free”.

That said, I will continue to respect the opinions and practices of other Indies navigating their own rugged terrain the way they see fit.

I will continue to support fellow Indies by purchasing, reading, and reviewing their books. MyTBR list is deep!

*Whatever your walk of life, may you continue to foster self-belief by any means necessary.

Eva’s Byte #244: 2020 Vision

What do you envision for yourself in 2020?

So, a brand new year is upon us. Its stretch of unpaved roads are at our disposal for furthering the cerebral journeys we desire to take. Whether or not one makes New Year’s resolutions—challenges, obstacles, and/or adversity inevitably derail the best-laid plans of mice and men.

Hence, I view each day with the mindset, “This is as good as it gets,” while steeling myself for the other shoe to drop.

In hindsight and with foresight, my 2020 vision embraces the resolve to roll with fate, while maintaining a thick hide to withstand the pelting of chips falling where they may.

If circumstances allow, this year, I envision publishing my current WIP in the genre of Contemporary. This week, I’m resuming my literary journey at the tail end of chapter 38—with miles to go before I round the bend to completing the novel.

I’ve pledged to read 25 books for the Goodreads 2020 Reading Challenge. I’ve just about finished reading The Disappearance of Robin Murat by Gerald W. Darnell, and will write my review when I do.

Reading/reviewing books written by Indies remains my steadfast New Year’s resolution.

I’m grateful for every dawn of a new day that enables me to further my literary journey toward the light at the end of the tunnel.

Wishing all of my readers: peace, prosperity, and productivity throughout 2020.

Eva’s Byte #297 - Crossing the Line

Having crossed the imaginary line bridging the last day of 2020 to the first day of 2021, I’m treading softly. Rather than setting goals which would only raise my anxiety levels to complete them, I’ve chosen to stay the course, letting the chips fall where they may.

Earlier in the week, without planning, I took it upon myself to wash the china and crystal stemware on display in my hutch. From there, I washed the bric-a-brac on the open shelves of a curio cabinet. On a roll, I proceeded to an antique bookcase, and did the same for items arranged on shelves behind the glass door.

While in the process of preparing for filing taxes, I cleaned out desk drawers and other storage units in my office.

As for crossing the line in bridging one chapter to the next of my current WIP, I completed Chapter 62 at 1955 words—after “only” two weeks! Under the brand new Chapter 63 heading, I poured close to 500 words during my brainstorming session. Without any forethought of a deadline in mind, I’ll cross the line for elevating gibberish to a literary work of art.

“In order to be irreplaceable one must always be different.” Coco Chanel

Cross the line when you’re ready to, in your own fashion.

*My sincere appreciation if you’ve read this far.
