S. D. Smith Is Going On An Adventure

Today we’re delighted to share the news that we are going on an adventure. After a lot of prayer, thought, and planning, we decided that I would leave my steady job of ten years to pursue the vocation of an author full-time!

This is a big deal. I’m very excited about it. And we couldn’t do it without you. This has always been about my family and your family. We are allies.

Our friends are asking, “What can we do to help?” So we asked for a high-five…

Please go to the GIMME 5 page and join in!

The Green Ember is Spreading Worldwide! (Canada and Australia Now Stocking The Green Ember…UK Next?)

These best-selling books are reaching all over the world! Beyond ebooks and audiobooks, which are easy for anyone, anywhere, to buy, we have reliable reports of The Green Ember Series being enjoyed in physical form on ALL SEVEN CONTINENTS.

Yes, even Antarctica. A friend of ours shared that she donated the series to a library in Antarctica, where about 1,000 researchers work. Amazing!

Meanwhile, some others aren’t thrilled when it’s hard, or expensive, to get a physical copy. We’ve heard from lots of countries about this problem, and that’s before we even get into the lack of translation. (One thing at a time!)

The bad news is that it isn’t easy to set up, and we need partners in those countries who want to distribute the books.

Good news, though! That’s starting to happen. G’Day, eh? You can order physical books in these two fine countries from these fine people.

Our Canadian friends can get the books from Classical Education Books.

For our Australian friends, the books are available from The Wandering Bookseller.

We are looking for distributors in other countries to carry the books. Many folks in the UK request the physical book, so if you know of a distributor who might want to carry the books there, please contact Story Warren Books.

If someone had a shop in Liverpool, near Anfield, and wanted Sam to come over for a book-signing, he would NOT be opposed to that.

The Green Ember Beginnings

It was almost three years ago when we first shared the idea of The Green Ember with the world. It has been an incredible journey ever since and I have been overwhelmed by the thousands of families who have welcomed Heather and Picket into their homes. That’s you! Thank you so much.

I told these stories to my children when they were very young. We watched rabbits hopping around our yard as the story unfolded. I thought I had written a book that very few would love. I assumed older kids wouldn’t enjoy the book because it features “bunnies” and I feared the epic scope of the story would be too intense for younger children. But what we’ve experienced is that The Green Ember (as well as Ember Falls and The Black Star of Kingston) has resonated with a wide age range and an astonishingly large audience.

Here’s a little video we made 3 years ago when we launched The Green Ember. #RabbitsWithSwords

The Green Ember Book 3 (Is S. D. Smith Working On Another Book in The Green Ember Series?)

This is the question I get asked all the time, in person, and via email and the post. I get a LOT of mail like the letter below.

I CAN’T have kids exploding over this! Seems like it would tarnish my reputation and disappoint my mother. NOT okay with that. So, I am very happy to say that I am working on The Green Ember: Book 3!

I am really enjoying writing this book! It’s been a blast. It’s definitely hard work, but it’s been worth it. So far, I’m very pleased. I am super excited to share this next adventure with you. I’m so honored that you want to know what’s next for Heather and Picket and the rest of our Natalian rabbit friends.

I love sharing New Stories with an Old Soul, and I plan to keep saying yes to that calling as long as I’m able.

Like I said in the video, please sign up for my (funny, infrequent) newsletter to be the first to know when Book 3 will be released. Thanks!

If you’re eager for Book 3, you know about books 1 (The Green Ember) and 2 (Ember Falls). But do you know about the prequel: The Black Star of Kingston? You can get a FREE ebook by subscribing to the newsletter, or order a print copy at Amazon, (audiobook at Audible), or our store here:

100,000 Readers For My Heart To Find

To my astonishment and delight, we continue to see an (apparently) undiminished enthusiasm for The Green Ember Series. In fact, a while back we sprinted past the 100,000 books sold mark. That feels special to me. We usually don’t talk about numbers, but this might give you a little bit of an idea of what we are seeing. (According to industry veteran Steve Laube, the average book from a major publisher sells 10,000 copies lifetime. Across all titles, the lifetime sales average is a tiny fraction of that.) We are still just getting going and I’m amazed and bucked up by the generosity and eagerness from readers. It’s an incredible gift. There are exciting things happening! (More below…)

We have been stretched pretty thin recently (okay, for kind of a long time), so we have done little-to-zero “marketing.” We have only done a fraction of the work we would like to be doing in connecting more readers for this series. But, you guys have been telling your friends. You have been doing the work of sharing. You are…

Sharing your love for #TheGreenEmber Series on social media.

Taking a few seconds to write enthusiastic reviews at Amazon, or Audible, or Goodreads.

Getting my newsletter (and reading it)!

Liking our Facebook Page, and following on Instagram

Wearing your #RabbitsWithSwords shirts, your Heather necklaces, playing with your Picket swords, and telling your friends IN PERSON about the series!

Creating book clubs or Green Ember parties to celebrate and help kids explore the books more deeply.

Writing blog post reviews, sharing interviews, and hosting giveaways.

And on and on!

Word of mouth is far more effective than anything we can do and you all are doing it. Thank you!

I get such wonderful notes from both parents and kids and one thing I hear over and over is how generously so many folks are sharing the books. I just read a note this morning from a family who had bought five copies to give to other families. And that’s not uncommon. I’m amazed and grateful for these incredible allies we’ve been given. What a gift!

As I work on The Green Ember: Book 3, I’m bucked up by the way so many are embracing the series. Speaking of Book III, I better get back to work…or bad things might happen.
