Simon Edge was born in Chester. He read philosophy at Cambridge and had a long career as a newspaper journalist and critic. His first novel, The Hopkins Conundrum, was published in 2017. A ‘tragic comedy’ based on the life of the poet Gerard Manley Hopkins, it was longlisted for the Waverton Good Read Award. His second novel, The Hurtle of Hell, was an atheist comedy featuring God as one of the main characters. A Right Royal Face-Off, out in summer 2019, is a comic account of the rivalry between the painters Thomas Gainsborough and Sir Joshua Reynolds, mixed with a satirical modern story. He lives in Suffolk.

Also sitting waiting to be read – and I'm impatient to start on them – are Elizabeth Is Missing by Emma Healey, and Robert Harris' Archangel. And I recently picked up a copy of The Time Traveler's Wife – I seem to be in a small minority never having read it, so I'll be rectifying that omission.(less)
