The Secret Life of Riley
My granddaughter has now been developing for twenty weeks. She is halfway to being born!

At twenty weeks, she weighs around ten ounces and is about six and a half inches long; about the size of a banana. Her taste buds are fully developed.

Ultrasounds have come a long ways since I had one in the nineties. I cherish these photos, taken this morning. I cherish this peek inside Riley’s secret world. I cherish the miracle of her.

I can’t help but wonder what she thinks about, snug and cozy in her watery world.
I wonder what she makes of the voices she hears outside her little cocoon.
I wonder if she knows that she is already dearly loved.

Waiting for Riley
[image error]
About three weeks ago my son gave me some life changing news — I’m going to be a grandma!
I have wished and hoped for grandma status for so long that it took a moment for it to sink in. It was like having every birthday and Christmas present I’d ever wanted delivered into my hands all at once.
I had the privilege of being there for the gender reveal — it’s a girl! And they’ve already got their baby girl named. Riley Elizabeth.
{Mom, I know you are smiling in heaven right now

To fix up a mix up
Thanks so much to everyone who has asked about Frankie’s Heart! I appreciate your interest more than you could know. Although Amazon has the e-book correctly priced at $2.99, their price for the paperback is higher than the set price and seems to change daily.
Paperback copies are available in my publisher’s bookstore (Black Lyon Publishing) and are available at a reduced price now at Barnes and Noble.
Thanks!

Sunday in the Kitchen
I love to spend a Sunday afternoon working in my kitchen. Thanks to some very generous friends, I had a lot to do today. Beans, tomatoes and even summer squash was washed, peeled and cubed. I don’t know what to call this concoction except “Kitchen Sink Soup,” because it has a little bit of everything in it!

If this winter is anything like last year, it will be awesome to open my freezer and pull out a jar of soup on a cold day.
And I also see a few loaves of zucchini bread in my very near future!

I’ve said this before, and I’m sure I will say it again:
The only thing better than a good friend is a good friend with an amazing garden!
