"Valentine?" Prophecy's voice reached out to him, luring him out of his thoughts.
He found himself staring at the floor, his fists clenched and his jaw set tightly as he stood rooted to the spot. People walked past him in both directions along the narrow street. They brushed against him, making him want to growl and take everything he felt inside, all the frustration and confusion, out on them.
He raised his eyes to meet Prophecy's. He wanted to take it all out on her. He wanted to slake his thirst and desire for her, wanted to get it out of his system in the hope that it would allow him to go back to how he'd been before she'd wandered into his life. He narrowed his eyes hungrily on her and hers widened, her hand coming up to press against her chest as her lips parted.
It would be so easy. She wouldn't resist. Hell, she wanted it as badly as he did. The voice at the back of his mind pushed him, cajoling him into taking everything she was offering so openly. He could have her blood, her body, and her heart. He could take it all.

EXCERPT - CHAPTER FIVE
Elise didn't understand him.
Last night on the Charles Bridge, she'd had him figured out. Aleksandr was an egocentric womaniser. Then, he had become a different person entirely. In Ladislav's private room, Aleksandr had shown no interest in the women and no pride in his legend.
When they had started talking about his past victories, she had thought he would revel in the attention and the glory of his kills. He had denied it all and had seemed uncomfortable about having to listen to it.
It didn't make sense.
And then he had left abruptly. Ladislav had been almost as bewildered as she'd felt.
Everything about Aleksandr confused her.
And everywhere she went, people were talking about him. From the second floor where she and the higher ranked soldiers and families lived, right down to the basement where the servants worked. In every room she had entered tonight, his name had been on someone's lips. It was driving her insane. Everyone was talking about why he had left his family and forsaken the throne, or telling tales of his victories, and each account was different. It seemed the only person who knew the true record of events was the one person who didn't want to talk about them.
Aleksandr.
Then there were those in the house who were still talking about the ball and her dance with him.
It all combined to irk her. She would rather not hear his name wherever she went.
Was she the only person not completely diverted by his presence?
Her heart reminded her that she couldn't seem to stop thinking about him either.
Her head reasoned that it was because he kept forcing himself on her life and she couldn't escape him.
Perhaps she could. Elise smiled as it came to her and went through the ballroom and out of the garden doors. The golden gravel crunched beneath her feet, quick noises that marked her pace. She didn't head towards the garrison. Instead, she followed the lamp-lit path towards the stone stable block down from the west wing where Ladislav's private reception room was.
She was off duty tonight and was going to use the time to get her head straight at last and get Aleksandr out of it.
The arched wooden gates to the stable block were open. She passed through, nodding a greeting to the stable-hands. The household kept around thirty horses, most of them owned by the highest ranked vampires of her bloodline. She had a horse though. It belonged to her mother.
The moment she neared its stall midway along the row to her left, the white mare stuck its head out of the open top half of the stable door. It whinnied and she smiled. It had been too long since she'd had time to ride.
Elise ran her hand down the horse's cheek and patted it softly. It turned towards her, nudging her, and she giggled.
"Eager," she whispered and stroked its nose, feeling more relaxed already. It looked at her with dark eyes, and she gently cupped its right ear, her mind wandering. "I hate hearing the way they talk about him... some of them adoring him while others fear him and speak vile rumours."
The horse nudged her and she almost managed to smile again but the weight in her heart was too heavy now.
"What am I to do?" She kept her voice low so only her horse would hear her. The last thing she needed was stable-hands overhearing her and spreading what she had said to her horse around the mansion. "I'm not sure what to do. He wants me without a doubt, but... do I want him? He's going to kill a hunter here and then he'll be gone. What would I do then? I doubt he's serious about me. It's just a game, and I don't want to play it."
Elise sighed again and rested her cheek against the horse's nose, holding it. She closed her eyes and tried not to think about Aleksandr. It was impossible.
"I can't give in to him."
The horse's warm breath washed over her, carrying the scent of oats and hay.
If only she could talk to someone properly about her feelings. It felt good to voice her worries but her horse couldn't offer her the advice she needed. She opened her eyes and drew away from it, idly stroking its nose. She couldn't give in to Aleksandr. There was no future for them and she wasn't going to enter into a doomed relationship, especially one where there were probably only feelings developing on one side.
Certainly, Aleksandr was pursuing her, and was doing so with more intent than a man had ever shown towards her, but it didn't mean that he had feelings for her beyond lust.
She wasn't interested in lust.
She had been there and done that, and no good had come of it.
And no good would come of this.
"You look as though you could use a ride."
"I think we could both use some time away from the house." He walked over to her, his horse's steps echoing around the stable block. "Everyone appears to have gone insane."
She smiled. She wasn't the only one to have noticed the fever that had swept through the bloodline then.
Elise nodded. Riding with Andrej cleared her head. He was a good listener. She often spoke to him about her worries and he always found solutions for her. She wasn't sure if there was a problem with Aleksandr though, or even a solution if the problem did exist. Besides, she had come out here so she didn't have to think about him.
She led her white mare out of the stall, saddled and mounted it, and then headed out of the gates with Andrej riding at her side, towards the hill at the edge of the estate to the north, where they always rode.
Andrej kept pace beside her. Cold air bathed her skin and eased her tension. It was a beautiful night. Twinkling stars dotted the clear black sky and the moon was just past full, rising slowly from the horizon to light the world in blue hues, bright enough that she could see her surroundings clearly.
They slowed to a walk as they reached the foot of the hill.
"What do you know of Aleksandr?" Elise cursed herself for thinking about him again.
Andrej's fair eyebrows knitted tight together and he stared at his black horse's mane.
"I know little more than anyone." He looked across at her. "You seemed bothered by his attentions."
She shrugged easily but was bothered in her heart. Whenever she tried not to think about Aleksandr, she ended up with him on her mind. It was impossible to escape him.
"Last night, he didn't seem very proud of his achievements. I can't understand why not. He's done a lot for our species and sacrificed a great deal. He should be proud."
"Perhaps he is not that sort of man, Elise." A hint of a smile tugged the corners of Andrej's lips. "Some of us do not shout about our glories, while others will tell any who will listen."
Elise smiled at his thinly veiled reference to himself. Andrej had never made a deal of anything he'd done. He had killed several hunters and always dismissed any praise it gained him.
"Do you think it noble of him to do what he has done?" Andrej's tone turned serious and Elise looked across at him. He was watching her, his eyes dark in the low light. When he looked at her like that, he reminded her of Aleksandr.
She had always been good friends with Andrej. He was kind to her, almost affectionate, and there had been a time when she'd thought that he might like her as more than a friend, but he had never taken any steps to change their relationship, so she had decided that she had been wrong.
Elise remembered the way that Aleksandr had stared at Andrej last night with a promise of death in his grey eyes. Could she have been right after all and Andrej had feelings for her and Aleksandr had seen it?
Suddenly, being alone with Andrej felt as stifling as being around Aleksandr. She wanted to turn back to the house and go to her room where she could be alone and away from men.
"Well?" Andrej prompted.
"I do." Her voice was a bare whisper. "I do think it's noble of him to protect us and use himself as a weapon for peace. He risks his life for us, for his people. It must have taken a lot for him to give up everything. I couldn't imagine being apart from my bloodline."
Andrej's expression soured. He looked away from her and geed on his horse as they neared the top of the moonlit hill.
Elise turned her attention to the mansion below, trying to distract herself from the cold atmosphere that had fallen between them. It had been wrong of her to talk about Aleksandr like that. If Andrej had feelings for her, it must have hurt him to hear her speak so highly of another man.
She tugged the reins to turn her horse around.
"Where are you going?" The strained edge to Andrej's voice stopped her.
Elise battled her fear of seeing affection or desire in his eyes and looked back at him. "I just remembered I have some things to do."
He didn't say anything in response to her lie. His eyes remained fixed on hers and then he stared past her, towards the stables. Her stomach twisted. She wanted to bolt down the hill and keep riding to escape the madness that had fallen over the house since Aleksandr's arrival. She hadn't meant to upset Andrej by wanting to leave. She wished he would speak.
"You will have to wait a moment now." Andrej pointed. "We have company and it would be rude to leave."
Elise looked over her shoulder and frowned at the approaching riders. Five of them all on black steeds that blended into the darkness. Three of them were women, judging by their shape.
The other two were Ladislav and Aleksandr.
The still night air carried the sound of the women's laughter. They rode closer to Aleksandr as the group approached, their eyes only for him, flattering him with their smiles. Elise clenched the reins and gritted her teeth. She couldn't have looked more different to them. They wore fine dresses and coats with their hair tumbling down around their shoulders, and had their faces made up. They rode side-saddle, as ladies should, and affected an air of delicacy.
Elise wore a man's uniform and sat on her horse like one. She had her long brown hair drawn back into a neat ponytail and no trace of make-up touched her face.
She had never cared before, so why now?
Aleksandr smiled and said something to the ladies. They giggled on cue.
Elise didn't want to consider why the sight of Aleksandr showing attention to the ladies upset her. She had no right to think about Aleksandr and she was certain he didn't see her as anything but a potential conquest, just as he saw these ladies.
They rode closer.
Elise went to turn her horse away but Andrej grabbed the reins.
"You must wait until they pass," he said and she had the terrible feeling he was enjoying watching her suffer over Aleksandr. "Show some respect."
Andrej wanted her to see that Aleksandr had no feelings for her, and that she was nothing to him. It hurt to remain. She had come here for clarity and she had it. A part of her had enjoyed Aleksandr's attention, had started to seek and welcome it. She crushed that part of her, intent on facing reality. She was a guard, one of the lowest ranks of the bloodline, and had no right to seek a noble vampire's attention.
Andrej saluted. Elise followed suit, keeping her eyes on the horizon so she didn't have to witness the way the ladies flirted with Aleksandr.
The group stopped and the chill atmosphere that had settled between her and Andrej changed. It darkened and the air thickened, just as it had done last night when Aleksandr had been staring at Andrej. It was a dark power that whispered insidious things to her, crawled over her skin and into her heart. She wouldn't look and see it in Aleksandr's eyes. She didn't want to.
"What are you doing out riding, Captain Andrej?" Ladislav's voice was light in the darkness, full of amusement. He was enjoying Aleksandr's company.
The two of them had probably already bedded the women that accompanied them.
Her own sense of darkness opened in her heart and she dropped her gaze. She stroked her horse's mane, seeking comfort.
"It was a beautiful night for a ride, Master, and we are off duty," Andrej said.
"And do you often ride together?" Aleksandr's voice was pure malevolence.
Elise said nothing. She pushed her fingers through the long flaxy hair of her horse's mane, shutting the world out.
"We sometimes do when we are off duty, or walk the grounds. It is a peaceful way to pass the night." Andrej's tone had picked up a sharp edge.
"I see." The ice behind those two words chilled her skin and the tension in the air worsened.
She could almost feel Andrej and Aleksandr glaring at each other, and she wanted to slink away and hide from both of them.
Without another word, Aleksandr rode on and the group followed him. Elise emerged, finding the courage to look at his back as he rode away, ahead of the others now, no longer a part of the group.
Andrej sighed. "It will be a shame to lose our quiet nights like this."
Elise immediately faced him. "What?"
Was he leaving or would Aleksandr use his power over Ladislav to stop them somehow?
Andrej stared into the distance after Aleksandr. "I am losing you to that man. You will be a part of his guard for a full month."
Elise's jaw dropped.
Aleksandr's guard?
"I hadn't heard." She glared at his retreating back.
"It is not official yet, but he has requested a guard detail and you specifically."
Elise couldn't believe his audacity. A desire to ride after him and give him hell speared through her but she bit her tongue instead. She had to follow orders and it was an honour to serve such a highly ranked vampire, but she wasn't about to let him walk all over her, and she certainly wasn't going to give in to him.
Her ride tonight had served its purpose. Her head was straight now, and she had found her resolve.
Aleksandr could chase her all he wanted.
She wouldn't give in to him, and it wasn't because she wanted to be more than just a conquest or because she felt unworthy of the attention of someone of his rank.
It was because a man like Aleksandr didn't know how to love.
And she would only fall for a man who loved her.

"We cannot remain here." Winter moved back across the room to the bed, sensing her following him, her footsteps almost silent on the extensive black and red Chinese rug that covered most of the floor, leaving only a thin border of dark wooden floorboards around the edges.Did you all enjoy this Daily Dozen?
"Why not?" Nika said and sat down on the end of his double bed.
The black towel she wore melted into the black sheets. She removed the shirt from her shoulders and placed it down beside her. When she leaned back, her slender pale hands were a stark contrast to the bedclothes. His gaze traversed the length of her arms, following the line of them up to her shoulders. His stomach turned and growled when his gaze reached the smooth, sublime column of her throat. Her hair had fallen away, revealing the slope of it, covered with dewdrops of moisture that clung in the most enticing way to her skin. An urge to chase them with his tongue filled him, commanding him to go to her and slowly lick her throat until he had caught every drop. It led onto a desire to lean into her then, to ease his teeth into her neck and draw on her warm blood, to take her completely and in ways that he had only seen in fantasies of her.
"Why can't we stay here?"

Today, your Daily Dozen fix comes from my epic vampire romance novel, Love Immortal .
"Duke thought that you would not want to be away from me," Julian said and Lauren looked up.
She wished she could see him in the darkness. Could he see her? Did his abilities allow him that? Could he see how wide her eyes were and feel how shocked she was? If Duke believed what he'd told Julian, then he knew more about her feelings than she felt comfortable with and more than she'd wanted anyone to see. Until she was sure of her own feelings and Julian's, she wanted things to continue as normally as they could. She needed to see where things went and needed to get her head straight. Julian's fingers combed through her hair, his breath soft against her face.
How close was he? A sense of anticipation stirred and built in her stomach. Was he close enough to kiss her?
Did you enjoy this Daily Dozen?
Here's a little more about the book:

Felicity Heaton
Rescued from werewolves by the most breathtaking man she's ever seen, Lauren is dragged into the fight of her life and a dark world she never knew existed. There, she discovers that she's the latest reincarnation of a goddess and must drink the blood of her immortal protector, Julian, in order to reawaken and continue her three thousand year old mission to defeat Lycaon, the original werewolf.
With the help of Julian and an organisation of people with supernatural abilities, Lauren fights for her life, their future and the fate of mankind against Lycaon and his deadly army, but can she succeed when Lycaon has killed all of her predecessors?
Can she crack the armour around Julian's heart and seize her happily forever after with him? And can Julian bring himself to trust Lauren with the fragments of his heart after everything he's been through?

Today's Daily Dozen comes from HEART OF DARKNESS :
Elise's compliance tonight took something away from the sense of satisfaction Aleksandr had from touching and kissing her.
She was too docile and doll-like. The brief moments in which she had responded to his touch had thrilled him but they weren't enough. He wanted her alive with desire, yearning for him as he did for her. He didn't want her like this.
He pressed his lips to her shoulder and then her throat. She trembled again and turned her face towards him.
Aleksandr drew back and looked at her, into her round beguiling eyes that spoke to him of passion and hunger. She held his gaze, her soft breath fanning his face and her body brushing his. She tilted her head towards him and he couldn't resist the invitation in her eyes as they dropped to his lips.
His mouth claimed hers, his left hand cradling her right cheek, keeping her in place so she couldn't escape him again. She didn't respond at first, but then she turned in his arms, pressed her hands to his chest, and kissed him.

He's a man that always sprouts black fur and purrs, and he's only a dream. Walking into work on the hottest day of the year, the last thing she expects is to meet Erik, a man who sends her temperature soaring and who resembles her dream guy exactly.

How far is he willing to go to get his hands on the company Erik owns?

EXCERPT"Don't fight it." A deep, silken male voice echoed around her. The feel of his fingers ghosting over her arms, across her back, tickling her shoulder blades, made her shiver with delight. How did he think she'd have the will to fight him?
She never did.
She turned, desperate to catch a glimpse of his face in the low-lit room. She never managed to see it. He was always a mystery to her, always eluding her.
His nails scraped down her arms as he came up behind her, his breath hot against her neck. It turned her skin sticky, adding to the already stifling heat of the room. Her stomach tightened, clenching with arousal as his hands glided over her torso. His fingers raised the hem of her camisole up, bunching the material as he explored her bare skin at an achingly slow pace.
She arched into him, rubbing her backside against his groin and feeling his desire for her. He was hard for her, pressed firmly into the crack of her ass. One hand came down to her hips, pulling her back as he ground into her, showing her just what was to come and making moisture pool in her panties. She groaned, tilted her head to one side and tried to look over her shoulder at him.
A low rumble reverberated through her. It was a liquid purr that she felt in every inch of her body. She shifted her backside against his length, eliciting a deeper rumble from him, and smiled to herself over the effect she had on him. The hand on her stomach snaked up to her breasts, slipping under the camisole. She closed her eyes as his fingers teased and tortured her right nipple. He ghosted his other hand back up her arm, light enough that goosebumps followed in the wake of his touch. He swept his fingers over her shoulder and slipped the strap of her camisole down over it, caressing her as he went.
His mouth was warm and satiny against her skin as he kissed her shoulder. He licked and tasted her, teasing her neck with blunt teeth, and turning the tightness in her belly into an inferno. She brought her hand around, holding his hip as he ground against her backside.
The only sound in her ears was their combined breathing, hot and heavy, panting as they moved against each other.
Her heart thundered, racing away with her, and she gave herself over to the tempo of it.
His tongue swept along her earlobe as hers wet her lips. Her brows furrowed and she moaned, rolling her head to one side and bringing her other arm up. She reached over behind her and ran it through his short thick hair. It was like velvet beneath her touch and she buried her fingers into it, feeling the softness and losing herself in the sensations flooding her.
He purred again.
She opened her eyes and looked down at his hand as he slid it into the waist of her panties. How had she got so naked?
The thought fled her mind when his hand edged lower.
She bit her lip in anticipation of his touch, willing him to move faster before she exploded with need.
He nipped at her ear and she groaned.
Her eyes almost shut.
They flew wide when she saw the black fur erupt on his arm.
"Don't fight me," he whispered. "We were meant to be."
Kim shot up in bed, the buzzing alarm jarring her senses and the sound of the city streets below telling her that morning had come. She breathed heavily, struggling to level her heartbeat and steady herself. She pressed her hand against her chest. It was sticky with sweat. Her camisole top was soaked.
Taking deep breaths, she kept one hand pressed against her chest and propped herself up on the bed with the other. The thin summer sheets stuck to her damp skin. She looked at the big sash window, welcoming the cool morning breeze that was coming in through it and silently thankful that she'd opened it last night before dozing off.
She stared distantly at the red brick building opposite and remembered the dream.
They were coming more frequently now. She didn't know whether it was some kind of sign or not. If it were a sign, it was probably just her body telling her that she really needed to get a boyfriend.
Flopping back onto the bed, she turned the alarm off and stretched her arms out by her sides.
The dreams weren't just getting more frequent; they were getting hotter.
She sighed out her breath and closed her eyes, letting the lingering pleasure from her dream wash through her. She just wished for once that she'd see his face, or at least find some sort of completion. It was always achingly slow, so slow that nothing really ever happened. He'd touch her like no other man had, stir feelings in her that made her dizzy with desire, and then she'd wake up.
The man on the radio announced that today was going to be the hottest day of the year. She groaned. London in the heat was horrible.
Slipping out of bed, she padded across to the bathroom. She stared at herself in the mirror. The white tiles of the bathroom made her look deathly pale. Dream guy was probably way out of her league anyway. With a sexy deep rumble of a voice like he had, and those painfully skilful hands, he was definitely not going to be real. Even if he was, she wasn't pretty enough to catch a guy like him.
Her whole life she'd been told she was plain.
She frowned at her reflection, pulling her sweat-soaked long dark brown hair back and tugging a couple of strands free. She smiled. Grinned. Frowned. Widened her eyes a little, until the white showed around her rich chocolate irises.
Dropping her hair, she wrinkled her nose up and pressed it. Pulled her bottom lip. Pouted.
Maybe she was plain. Sometimes she thought she was pretty. Her teeth were straight, so was her nose. Her brows were nicely arched and fine. She had an oval face and wasn't super-slim, but not fat either. She prodded her sides and swallowed hard when she remembered dream guy's hands all over her.
Sighing at herself, she stripped off and looked at the digital clock stuck to the mirror. There wasn't time for a bath this morning. She sighed and looked over at the shower. Her parents had tried to convince her to go with one or the other, but the bathroom was big enough for both, and sometimes she needed a bath. She got into the shower and turned it on. She didn't know why she was worrying so much. Dream guy was just that, a dream. The chances of him existing were about as slim as the chance of her getting a promotion.
At her company, that would be nothing short of a miracle. She'd been working at the law firm for nearly three years now and they still didn't show any sign of taking her seriously.
Pushing away her thoughts of work and dream guy, she focused on washing her hair and the excruciating journey to work by the tube. In this heat, it was going to be nothing short of Hell.
She'd arrive at work as sweaty as she'd woken up this morning. There was a new case coming in today that was meant to be very hush hush and damn near impossible. And her sister had dumped her, meaning she was stuck having dinner alone with her parents tonight.
This day was going to be just perfect.
* * * *
Kim shoved her way onto the packed tube train, squeezing in by the door and frowning when someone elbowed her in the back as they got on behind her. She tiptoed to see if there was any space further along and sunk back onto her heels when she saw it was packed tighter than a tin of sardines. She leaned her head against the glass panel beside her and stared at the newspaper the man in the seat on the other side was reading.
Someone in front of her turned and she wrinkled her nose up when she smelt sweat.
Just great.
What a way to start the day.
It was already up to boiling point outside and it was barely eight in the morning. Global warming. That's what it was. All this pollution and stuff. She sighed again and closed her eyes, trying to whisk herself away from the daily grind by remembering her dream.
She told herself it wasn't a dream.
It was more of a fantasy.
But every time it was him, the same man, that same touch and those same lips against her overheated flesh.
He always said the same thing to her, close to her ear, sometimes in front of her, to her side or behind. She didn't care. She just wanted to melt into a puddle whenever he spoke. He could say anything, do anything, and she'd be his for the taking.
The train jerked around a corner, brakes squealing as it went downhill. She frowned at the rude interruption and then realised that her stop was next.
Getting off, she jostled along with the rest of the commuters and then breathed a sigh of relief when she hit the street. Her sense of calm was short lived when she turned to find her boss, Laura Townsend, walking towards her, her arms full with a box that was overflowing with files.
"Kay!" Laura shouted.
Kim cringed. Too late to escape now.
"It's Kim," she said flatly, not caring about correcting her boss because she knew that Laura wouldn't even noticed she'd spoken.
"Can you carry this?" Laura dumped the box into Kim's arms.
Kim scowled at her as she straightened out her Armani power suit and beamed brightly. She could never understand how Laura had managed to become her boss. They'd gone through university together and had even taken the bar at the same time. How come Laura was head of the department, and she was stuck spending half her time running errands? Laura had also managed to conveniently forget her name, and forget they'd ever known each other. Kim mused that a position of power could do that to someone. No time for the little people when you're busy brown-nosing the big bosses.
She adjusted the box in her arms and trudged towards the office. It was a Georgian building with tall sash windows and a black double door for the entrance. She'd always thought it was pretty. It was half the reason she'd decided to join this company. That and her friend worked here. But recently he'd been changing and she wasn't sure that she liked the butterfly he'd turned into. It was more of a moth.
The files shifted side to side in the box as she mounted the steps and she tried to get them back into a better position as she followed Laura across the entrance hall. It was cool inside the building, the heavy stone work keeping the heat of the sun out. She looked up at the big twin staircases in front of her, wishing she were up in the offices on that floor with the rest of the partners.
She paid for her momentary lapse in concentration.
The box slipped as a file fell off the top and before she could recover herself, all of them had scattered across the floor. She bent immediately, getting down on all fours and scrabbling to pick them up. She could hear the impatient click of Laura's shoes on the floor. Her heart beat sickeningly fast as she panicked.
Someone touched her shoulder.
"It's fine, I've got it," she muttered, dying of embarrassment as more people gathered.
She scurried across to the rest of the files, dumping them back into the box. Someone touched her again. She jerked her shoulder backwards.
"I said it was fine. Get off me," she almost growled the words.
A pair of shiny black shoes appeared in view along with a file.
They weren't girl shoes.
It wasn't Laura.
"Don't fight me," a deep, lush male voice said. "I'm just trying to help."
She froze, her heart dancing in her throat as she stared at his shoes. It couldn't be. It just couldn't be. Her palms sweated and her breathing hitched as she followed his trousers upwards, taking in the strong, long legs and the breadth of his shoulders, all emphasised by a sharp, black tailored suit. Her eyes reached his face and she flushed under the intensity of his gaze.
He knelt beside her, bringing his head almost level with hers, and held the file out.
She stared into his honey brown eyes, lost in the force of them, and unable to say anything. All sense of embarrassment disappeared for a moment, but returned full force when he smiled, his soft lips curving into it.
"Are you all right?" he said, his voice making her melt inside so much that she was glad she was already on the floor and couldn't fall over.
She nodded dumbly.
He placed the file into the box and picked up the others for her as she stared at him, trying to figure out if he was real or whether she was just fantasising again. She'd never seen such a gorgeous man. His short black hair looked as velvety as it had been in her dreams and his eyes were everything she'd imagined they would be.
Her eyes widened when she was suddenly standing and she glanced at the large hand that was holding her arm. She swallowed and blinked, her senses reeling as she remembered the feeling of his touch. She pushed her fantasies away as he said something and she looked up into his eyes.
She was lost again the moment they met hers. They were just like the colour of honey, with dark flecks in their depths. She'd never realised that people could have eyes that colour.
"Are you sure you're all right?" he said with an amused smile but there was the tiniest hint of concern in his eyes.
"I'm fine, thank you," she said with a smile. Her cheeks flushed when he grinned.
"Don't concern yourself with Kay. She's always been a little clumsy." Laura stepped between her and the man.
"Kim," she whispered, correcting her.
The man smiled.
"We weren't expecting you for another half an hour, Mr. Blackwell," Laura said.
Kim tried not to stare at him but her eyes seemed to ignore every command she sent to them. He was breathtaking. It wasn't just his looks; it was his whole air. There was something about him that spoke of danger and passion, of heat and seduction. He positively oozed masculinity and sensuality.
Or maybe it was just her dreams making her feel like this.
The cool room suddenly felt very hot when his eyes came back to meet hers. He was speaking to Laura but Kim didn't hear a word he said. Her heart pounded in her ears. She averted her gaze for a split second but it roamed back to him, as though he'd called it and she was powerless to resist him.
Laura turned to her. "They need those files in room two."
Kim looked at her, feeling a little dazed and definitely confused. Files? She looked down when Laura did and saw the box there. Files. She'd completely forgotten about them.
"I do hope Kim will be working on my case," the man said.
Her heart skipped a beat when he said her name. He'd heard her. He'd heard her correct Laura. Is that why he'd smiled? He'd smiled at her?
"Kim? She doesn't work on cases like yours," Laura said with a broad smile.
Kim frowned. She did work on cases like his and Laura knew it. If this were the man they were supposed to be meeting this morning, then it was a case she was supposed to be working on. She specialised in contract negotiations.
Laura began walking and he followed her. Kim watched him heading towards the stairs, taking in the strength of his build and how tall he was.
Tearing her eyes away, she bent over and picked up the box of files.
She smiled when she heard him speak.
"I think Kim should work on this case. I think I need her."

He's a man that always sprouts black fur and purrs, and he's only a dream. Walking into work on the hottest day of the year, the last thing she expects is to meet Erik, a man who sends her temperature soaring and who resembles her dream guy exactly.
A black panther shape-shifter, Erik Blackwell has been searching for his mate for twenty-seven years. The visions they share each night are getting hotter but finding her is proving impossible as he's never seen her face. That is, until it turns out she's working as his lawyer on his contract negotiations with his brother, Alistair.
Kim can't deny her attraction to Erik. The heat she feels with him is intense and it's only a matter of time before they surrender to their desires, but something haunts her. Is Erik really the man of her dreams? If so, can he grow fur and purr? And what about the terrible feeling she has about Alistair and the contract? How far is he willing to go to get his hands on the company Erik owns?
What will Kim do when she discovers Erik's secret? Will she turn her back on him, or will she complete the mating and become like him so they can be together forever?

* * * *
