The Halls of November

The thing I like most about writing is that it is open to anyone. You don't need a degree or a pedigree- all you need is a desire to express yourself and a story to tell.

The education required is simply life and the tutorial on how to write is on every page of every book we have ever read. Punctuation, dialog, paragraphs and sentences are all there for our minds to record and understand.

When I started writing I used pencils and pens and a clickety-clack typewriter which made an awful lot of noise. Now-a-days we have computers, word programs, on-board editors and spell checkers and programs that will create a viable manuscript for us. Then come the human resources; editors, editorial services, agents, websites, marketing, and places like Amazon and other on-line publishing companies to get our brainchild in front of an audience.

What you DO need is to believe in yourself-that you have something worthwhile to say and a compelling story idea.

I find most of my inspiration in the Fall of the year when I am swept up in the autumn wind and blown through the halls of November watching the red and yellow leaves of the past year swirl around me; the dreams, events and memories of the summer racing to the winter days ahead as I give thanks for the gift I have been given-the grace bestowed on any and all who choose to reach out to others-and the chance to entertain and touch someone else's life in a positive way as we race to the coming joy of the holiday season through the halls of November.

Don't Turn Around!

Don't Turn Around

It's All Hallows Eve and the cold North breeze
Sends the wails of spirits whistling through the trees...

The moon is full behind dark clouds
And the fog is hiding vampires and werewolves in it's shrouds.

The children are gathering in hordes on the street
Thinking of candy and the ghouls they'll meet...

And if you are alone on this magic night
Beware! Lest your imagination take flight!

The cupboards hold monsters and scary things-
Snakes and bats and crawling things...

There's a banging in the hallway and a slither on the floor-
Pretend you don't hear and you'll only hear more!

Don't pull back the curtains for a face you may see-
Sit in the chair and gather your knees!

Remember this rule as the goblins abound-
Whatever you do-
Don't turn around!
