Are UV Filters the Snake Oil of Photography? | Are UV filters a Scam?
- Why do companies sell UV filters if UV filtration for digital sensors isn't needed (digital sensors are not sensitive to UV light)?
- Why do they "fake" UV filtered images?
- Why do they talk about Blue Light Removal but cannot demonstrate it in real world conditions?
- UV filters offer little to no impact resistance as clearly demonstrated here in Steve Perry's great tests. (Steve Perry's "UV Filters - Do You Need Them Or Not?"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P0CLP...)
- I agree there are very limited situations where UV filters can prevent dust, sand or minor liquids from reaching the front of the lens (and only the front of the lens), but any shooting in very heavy moisture conditions should be done in a waterproof housing.
- All of this leads me to believe the only real time UV filters are useful, are for minor front shielding of dust and light spray, and sure there is a time and place for that, but for ALL photographers and All lenses? Pure non-sense.
This is why I have a problem when I read the descriptions from manufacturers all pitching cures that do not necessarily apply to their very own UV filters. They are literally lying by telling customers the UV filters will do something they do not.

My new friends sure love to eat. I've never had such a variety of new and interesting food. The cup of white stuff is some kind of egg desert, it was amazing, The last picture is blood pudding. It tasted like meat flavored jello. I try everything I think I can handle - it's been very educational!

Why Program Mode with Flash for Event Shooting is best for beginners
One of the most common questions I get is about shooting events for the first time with a flash. This is not a simple answer as every camera system treats flash a little differently. The safe, shoot answer is P Mode with ETTL if you are unsure. Many camera systems (not all) will detect a flash in AV mode and turn it into a slow sync mode, which drags the shutter speed, even up to 1 second of longer in some cases. You do not want this in event photography. Some Canon cameras will let us set the shutter speed limits and in those cases, you would be ok. There are some other options such as shooting in manual with a locked in SS, and using ETTL.
I hope this clarifies your questions! Best wishes!

The 1st Photographer - Joseph Nicéphore Niépce
Joseph Nicéphore Niépce is likely who should be considered as the first photographer. Something I appreciated about his journey was that this was something he was working towards, it was not an accident. What is classified as the first photograph, "A View from Le Gras" 1826 is on display at the Harry Ransom Center in Austin, Tx

What Is An Aspherical Lens?
Ever wonder what is meant by the term "aspherical lens" when reading about a lenses construction? Today I will quickly define what it is, what it does, and what some of the benefits may be over spherical lenses. Enjoy!
What difficult photography concept do you want me to tackle next?

Cheating Photographers
We often talk about the how-to for camera gear and lenses, but rarely do we discuss the ethics of photography. Today we will be reviewing famous examples where photojournalists, those who have taken on ethics standards, have been caught cheating.

Angel Has Fallen

This is a little bit hard for me to judge objectively because I know one of the producers, Christa Campbell whom I went to high school with. I am always biased towards films that I know people worked in or on. Chirsta has had an impressive career recently with producing films, and I will always support her movies. Something Christa does well is she is constantly in the game and constantly creating profitable films - something that is not very easy to do. She started from very humble beginnings, it is probably one of the biggest success stories as far as producers go today in Hollywood n my opinion.
I enjoyed the movie- it's the best action film in theaters right now, I thought some of the action scenes particularly the first attack on the president was spectacular, because it is the first film but that I've seen that defines a threat that I am not sure has been addressed. I will try not to ruin it. I only found one small lull about one third in the movie, but this is completely forgivable.
If you do not see in theaters, this is a not to miss rental. I think you would enjoy it if you're into the previous "has fallen" series or hard-core 80s action films.
Christa's next film is Rambo Last Blood. DO NOT MISS IT!!
