Micro Focus Adjustment - Cereal Box / Ruler Method - MFA How to Check Lens Alignment
Many Canon 90D owners have been complaining that their images are not quite as sharp using the optical viewfinder as they are in Live View. The cereal box and ruler method allows photographers to quickly visualize where their lenses are focusing and to verify if they are out of alignment. This video demonstrates the philosophies of MFA (micro focus adjustment) and some of the principles to become familiar with if you decide to try this on your own. I think learning how to do this manually is a good exercise because sometimes you may need to make an adjustment and not have access to certain tools.
I did decide to keep my micro focused adjustment at -15 simply because I was getting better peak sharpness at that point.
It may appear that the Live View focus is off. A couple notes: MFA doesn't change Live View focusing, Im wayyyyy zoomed in, and finally it is normal for cameras to focus towards the front of the DOF.
If you haven't seen it already, please check out the 5 focusing tips before trying MFA: https://youtu.be/6Kq3ESNQbgY

No Lens is the Same
Yes, every lens is different. It will be well worth your time to inspect and test your new lens beyond what you expect to normally shoot with it. Know it strengths and weaknesses from the beginning, before your return date expires.
Also important to note that the calibration of lenses can change over time, we will discuss micro focus adjusting in a soon up coming video.

Canon 90D vs 80D & 7Dii

The 90D Overall is a better camera, but there are reasons to go with the 7Dii or not upgrade. The main reason, the lenses!

Canon 90D M6ii Lenses - Which have enough Resolving Power? Which Do not?
See list of lenses below the video. This is an ongoing list as we compile more information.
So the Canon 90D Sensor (and M6II) have a pixel pitch of about 3.2 microns, which means lenses used will likely need to have better resolving power than the list Canon Recommended for the 5Ds and 5DSR.
Many of these lenses have been confirmed in our FB group: Michael's Canon 90D FB Group
Canon's Lens Recommendations For the 5DS and 5DSR. I have added a couple to this list that should have enough:
Confirmed = Multiple Users have demonstrated with images on our FB group
Unconfirmed = Verbal Only from different sources
50/50- Some good, some bad examples from the FB group, might come down to the copy you have
Italics = Likely /Likely Not (Depending on list) based on MTF Charts

The Current War

I really enjoyed it, but this is a subject matter that others might not find engaging. Inventions, electricity, egos, entrepreneurship, history, Tesla, inability to navigate psychological obstacles. Awesome! A definite rental, but if you are fans of any of the above, you will appreciate it. Nothing else came out this week that I was interested in.

Canon 90D (& M6ii) vs 80D 70D XT3 A6400 5D4 Dynamic Range
Here are my preliminary tests for Dynamic Range for the Canon 90D and M6ii (basically the same sensor performance wise) as they compare with other cameras. You are looking for a couple things:
1. The point where you can no longer see a distinct line between two of the numbers.
2. Artifacts that hide these borders as it gets darker.
3. Important to keep in mind 90D and M6ii are 32.5 MP.
Note- This is not an ISO noise test, which is something else. Most shots were taken at ISO 100, the XT3 was at 160. Color differences can usually be explained by WB settings.

Makes me realize how bad that 70D sensor was!

Notice how much "cleaner" the 5D4 is, but all has streaking in the higher numbers.

XT3 was tested at ISO 160.

I believe Sony's 24 MP sensor is getting old now. It still has posterization issues, 90D does not. (Looking for black bricks between numbers) Sorry about the lint!
