Julia Ramsey Jones’ Trunk
A Legacy Item from the Nat Turner Rebellion?
Uncle Oakel, husband of Francis (Dad’s sister) restored the trunk and added the placard inside.
We do not know when the trunk was made or if Rebecca Jane or Elizabeth owned the trunk.
All Families Have Secrets They May Wish to Remain Hidden
The Lord says all will be revealed. God’s justice calls us to make things right, regardless of who caused a situation to be off balance. Perhaps because I wasn’t the biggest or brightest I’ve often championed the underdog
It wasn’t until much later that I learned about my family’s connection to the Turners. Maybe it’s a DNA thing to want to help make things right. That seems to run in Dad’s side of the family (and Mom’s). I only came into possession of this trunk due to the passing of Frances Lee, my first cousin. At her service, they spoke of how much she cared for the Lord (first) and others in response.
Our past does not define us: the Lord does. He destined us to be with Him. May we leave behind the skeletons in our closets and trunks and walk with him without guilt and shame. Go today and BE the Light to someone

Believe in God’s Goodness and Enjoy All His Promises
Our Attitude Affects Our Altitude
God wants good for us, not harm, but we must believe His word, or we will miss out on His promises. Those who came out of Egypt expressed an attitude of criticism rather than gratitude.
When they saw the Egyptian army approaching, they cried out, “Was it because there were no graves in Egypt that you brought us to the desert to die? What have you done to us by bringing us out of Egypt?” (Exodus 14:11). They also said, “Didn’t we say to you in Egypt, ‘Leave us alone; let us serve the Egyptians’? It would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the desert!” (Exodus 14:12).
God promised them a beautiful land, filled with promises of protection and success, but they doubted His promises. Instead of trusting in God’s goodness, they believed He wanted them to fail and fall.
Have you ever found yourself questioning God’s goodness, wondering if He truly called you to write, especially when you don’t see the fruit you expect?Do you sometimes doubt that God has blessed your books, wants to bless your books, or will?Do you worry that your books are doomed to live in a wilderness of obscurity? In moments of struggle, have you hesitated to believe that God is willing and able to help you? Fear is faith in a bad report. What do you believe about your books and writing?Faith or Fear?Because of their lack of faith, God’s people never entered their Promised Land. Instead, they wandered in a wasteland until they died. Jude 5 reminds us of the importance of believing God’s word and His character of goodness.
I want to remind you, though you once fully knew it, that the Lord, who saved a people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed those who did not believe” (Jude 5). Without faith, it is impossible to please God (Hebrews 11:6).
God calls those who doubt His goodness disobedient and rebellious. Such “non-believing” believers will never enter His rest. They live in fear and worry. Their faith is in negative circumstances.
But for those with faith from God (Mark 11:22), there is a rest with results. We who have God’s faith (faith from God) enter His rest every time we trust in Him. God calls us to walk the ancient paths — old ways that produced fruit —and find refreshment for our souls.
Jesus explains how this works. “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls” (Matthew 11:28-29).
In Psalm 23 we see how the Lord is our Good-Great shepherd. Everything we need He has provided. He makes us lie down in pleasant pastures with ample provision. He leads us beside calm waters where we can hear his still small voice. He restores and refreshes our soul and work.”
God’s promises are abundant and full of blessings. He assures us of a full and fulfilling eternal life (John 3:16; 1 John 2:25), the forgiveness of our sins (1 John 1:9; Acts 10:43), wisdom (James 1:5; Proverbs 2:6), peace (Philippians 4:7; John 14:27), that all our needs will be met (Philippians 4:19; Matthew 6:33), His strength and power (Isaiah 40:29-31; Ephesians 3:16), guidance and direction (Proverbs 3:5-6; Psalm 32:8), protection (Psalm 91:1-2; 2 Thessalonians 3:3), joy (Psalm 16:11; Romans 15:13), and His love (John 15:9; 1 John 3:1).
What do you need today for your book, writing, and work? God has already provided this and more through His Spirit that resides within you.
You need only to be still and believe that God fights for you. Raise your hopes and lift your hearts. Stretch out your hand over the thing blocking your path to success and at God’s whispered word, speak His word to your book or problem and move on. God stands between you and your enemies. His power will be displayed if you trust in Him.
A Final Warning
But … if we doubt and complain, if we grumble and criticize, we forfeit His rest. A critical spirit robs us of the faith we need to proceed into our land of promises. Do not rebel. Do not doubt or be afraid. Ask for God’s faith — the same faith in which Jesus walked.
Those who believe God’s words to be true, He leads to blessings and healing, provision and abundance. Trust that God wants good for you and that He has destined your books and writing to find great success. Believe in Him, not the marketing plans of man, and find rest for our weary souls. Work with diligence, yes, but always trust that He is making a way for you.
Write on, brother. Walk on, sister. God has your back and front.

Four Keys to Receiving More Book Sales from God
From Matthew 25:14-30 learn the four keys to receiving more book sales from God.
The world of writing and book publishing for authors can be tough, but with the right book sales strategies, you can find success. Below are faith-based tips for increasing book sales, improving your book sales strategies, gaining more book sales success, applying book sales advice, and book sales secrets.
We know the story: God gives more talents to some than others. One might receive a single talent, another two, others five or more. Those who have much receive more. What gives?
“Thanks” — that’s what gives. Thanks, gratitude, praise, and effort grows the “only” of your small fish and few loaves.
Here are four simple things we must do to tap into God’s marketing power.
First, we need to believe that God is good. Jesus says He came that we might have abundance (John 10:10), not merely get by until we die. God wants us to grow, succeed, and prosper (Genesis 1:28). We might say that the Good News is the original prosperity gospel — or at least an expansion of the prosperity message delivered in the Law.
The first two servants knew God’s heart to be good. The servant with one talent believed God to be hard-hearted — a taker rather than a giver. “I knew that you are a hard man, so I was afraid. Here is what belongs to you.” Fear and the expectation of working for nothing caused this man to do nothing. The result? The one-talent author got exactly what he feared: nothing.
Next, we need to acknowledge that we have received a gift from God. The first two servants knew the One who gave them the talents. The third servant knew about God, but he didn’t really know God, nor did he acknowledge that the talent was his to use. Many do not accept their gifts, look for gifts, or expect to receive gifts from God. Worse, when they receive a talent they do not expect much of a harvest. But even a one-book author can enjoy great success. Consider these one-book novelists.
Anna Sewell, Black Beauty (1877), Emily Brontë, Wuthering Heights (1847), Boris Pasternak, Doctor Zhivago (1957), Margaret Mitchell, Gone With the Wind (1936), J.D. Salinger, The Catcher in the Rye (1951).
Or how about Sarah Young’s Jesus Calling? Published in 2004 by Thomas Nelson, Jesus Calling only sold 59,000 copies in its first three years: 20,000 a year. Not bad, but that little book would do so much more! Sales took off in 2008, with the book selling over 200,000 copies that year. As of 2023, Jesus Calling has sold over 45 million copies, making it one of the most successful devotionals of all time.
Are we catching the vision of what God will do with our talents when we are faithful (filled with faith)?
Consider The Shack: 26 houses rejected it so Paul Young, Wayne Jacobson, and Brad Cummings chipped in $5,000 a piece to self-publish the book. They attracted 1,000 orders by the time the first 10,000 copies came out in May 2007. They gave away copies to friends, at talks, and at a book trade show in Nashville. Suddenly, churches began ordering copies in bulk. Pastors discussed the novel in their sermons; Bible study groups picked it apart; grief counselors gave it to their patients. By December Windblown had sold 88,000 copies. After their small publishing company had sold roughly 1 million copies, Hachette Book Group USA agreed to partner in the printing and distribution of The Shack in exchange for half the profits (plus operating expenses).
The lesson? It’s always too soon to give up on what God will do.
Third, we need to use the gifts we’ve been given. The first two servants used their talents and gained more. The lazy, wicked servant did nothing and lost his. The phrase, “Use it or lose it.” is a kingdom of God principle. Whatever open doors come your way, test to see if the opportunity would glorify God. If so, walk through until He tells you to stop. Look for cheap to free ways to market, promote, and give away copies of your book.
I use prlog.org to distribute free press releases of my ministry work and book efforts. Free social media updates work provided you are offering to help and encourage others, not hawk your books. I’ve tried Amazon, BookBub, Facebook, and Google ads. In the end, using the Holy Spirit’s power and believing God’s promises provides more peace and sales for less money.
Finally, we need to give thanks for what we receive. When Jesus fed the 5000 and later the 7000 he gave thanks for all He received (a few fish and some bread). When we thank God for the small and large, we can be sure our attitude of gratitude will lead to growth.
Trust God for your provision and book sales, not in formulas. The only increase formula we find in the story is from the master who scolded the lazy, wicked servant for not investing the talent with a bank. We cannot forecast or formulate God: we can only worship Him.
God does miracles with whatever we receive, big or small. Miraculous multiplication follows when we acknowledge the gifts we’ve received, use them for the good of others, trust God for increase, and thank Him in advance for the manifestation. When we do this our capacity will grow, and we will see God’s provision in our life — and if you’re called to write for him, book sales.
God wants us to grow and prosper, not rest and rust. Read, receive, believe, and live by the verses below.
Growth: James 4:10, Proverbs 3:1-2, 2 Timothy 3:17, John 15:10-12, 8, 14:15, Luke 2:49, Isaiah 41:10
Success: 1 Kings 2:3, Philippians 4:13, Joshua 1:5, 7-8, 1 Chronicles 22:13
Prosperity: Psalm 37:4, 7, 16, 25-26, 68:19, 84:11, 92:12-15, 112:1-9, 115:11-16, 122:6-7, 132:12-18, 145:8-9, Proverbs 3:9-10, 8:17-21, 10:2-6, 11:25, 13:4, 19:17, 28:13, 25, 27, Ecclesiastes 5:19, Isaiah 1:19, 58:10-11, Jeremiah 17:7-8, 29:11, Malachi 3:10-12, Acts 14:17, Galatians 6:6-10, Philippians 4:19, Titus 3:8, Hebrews 7:19-22, 11:6, James 1:17, 3 John 2

Need More Sales for Your Book / Books? Learn This Seldom Used Secret
Speak Your Sales Success into Existence!
Let’s face it: not many of us are influential. Not many of us are important and popular, rich and powerful. But that’s okay because God chose the insignificant and overlooked to confound the wise.
Those who are in Christ Jesus, have the wisdom of God and the power and authority of Jesus to do great works — and write great works (1 Corinthians 1).
When His believers act in the Spirit of Jesus their message, writings, teaching, and preaching are a demonstration of the Holy Spirit’s power.
When we place our marketing efforts in His hands, trust in His ways, and work within the opportunities He provides, we testify that our success does not rest in human wisdom, but in God’s power.
No platform? No problem. The Lord God gives favor and honor to those who ask (Psalm 84:11). Joseph found favor in his master’s sight (Genesis 39:3-4) and God granted Job life and favor (Job 10:12). Ask God to give you favor with readers, with organizations, with reading groups, with bookstores and yes, even Amazon.
Here is today’s encouraging Good News from Jesus.
“My grace is sufficient for us. My power is perfect.” (2 Corinthians 12:9) Jesus is saying:
“My favor is upon you.”“My blessings are flowing to you.”“Whatever you need is already supplied.”“My Father’s grace meets your every need in any situation — including book sales.”“My power is perfect. You lack no good thing for your work. All the power you need is already yours.”So how do we access this grace Jesus gives us? With words. With our eyes, we read His words. With our hearts, we believe His words. With our minds, we meditate on God’s words. And with our lips, we speak His words to our problems and possibilities.
If your book isn’t jumping off the shelf, command it to get hopping. Speak to your book the way you might a teammate who is lallygagging onto and off the field. In a loving but stern voice, tell your book to go out and find new readers and new reviewers. Then expect your book to run to its position and excel.
Next, we acknowledge God’s blessings. We thank Him and accept His grace. We tell others about God’s goodness. We say things like:
“My book is a good read.” “It’s a blessed seller.” “My target readers love this book.”With our lips, we testify that we believe and expect that our Father is working to make our book a success.
Grace from Jesus is activated by Faith. When “God’s Faith” (Mark 11:22) in us connects with God’s Grace we see the fruit of our faith with spiritual eyes — then in time fruit appears in the natural realm.
If God calls you to write, he expects a harvest. Begin today to tend to your field of dreams. Begin today to work in the faith, power, and authority of Jesus to speak into existence what is not yet . . . but will be soon!
Speak These Prayers to Your Book
Father, I kneel before you, trusting that you will exalt me. Daily, I receive, believe, and live by your words. Your commands, promises, and blessings are life to me. Your Word brings healing and health, provision and abundance for every good work — including my books. Book, in the name of Jesus, you are blessed. Everything you need for abundance, you have. Go! Find new readers. Find new reviewers. Expand your readership. Enlarge your area of influence for God’s Kingdom. Freely you have received blessings from my Father. Freely give blessings, joy, peace, and hope to others. Amen. (James 4:10, Proverbs 3:1-2, 2 Timothy 3:17)
My Father’s glory is that by showing myself to be His disciple, I bear much fruit. Book, you are good fruit. Grow. Multiply sales. Increase your success in retail outlets. Produce a harvest that will last. As readers turn your pages draw them to Jesus. Amen. (John 15:8)
Book, just as Joseph received favor from his master and enjoyed authority in his circumstances, I say to you, by the authority of Jesus, you also are blessed to prosper. Your destiny is for good, not harm. Now go and do good to all. Be found by many, and read by thousands. Amen. (Genesis 39:21-23)
