The Insecure Writer's Support Group, Champion of Flight, and Secrets of Honor

It’s time for another edition of The Insecure Writer’s Support Group, hosted by Ninja Captain, Alex J. Cavanaugh. Don’t forget to check out the Facebook IWSG, too.

I took the past few weeks off to reassess some goals and tackle a few projects. I’m still working on those objectives, including redesigning and moving my website, but it’s coming together.

On the writing front, I’m excited about a couple projects. I taught my publish and promote seminars on Monday, and nothing is more invigorating...

Re-Evaluating Goals and a Hodgepodge of Updates

I’ve been enjoying my in-law’s visit, including a side trip with them to Myrtle Beach. We don’t get away often (just because I’m always busy) but it was really needed.

One thing that struck me this past week is the need to re-evaluate my goals and priorities. I’m self-employed (have been for 15 years - boo-yah!) and I have some business decisions to make, too.

That’s something we all need to do now and then - step back and reassess our lives and where we are going. Otherwise, we just get stuck...

The Insecure Writer's Support Group

It’s time for another edition of The Insecure Writer’s Support Group, hosted by Ninja Captain, Alex J. Cavanaugh. Don’t forget to check out the Facebook IWSG, too.

I’ve had some major projects this past month and behind the scenes things I’ve worked on. One thing I’ve been working on is revamping my seminars, especially my publishing and promoting ones. The industry changes so fast! If you saw my post on Monday that compared the three biggest eBook distributors, you know that new opportunities...

How Authors Can Benefit From Offering a Newsletter

Today I am at The Insecure Writer’s Support Group, discussing reviews for R.

Newsletters are a great way for an author to stay in touch with his or her fan base. During the release of my series, The Circle of Friends, I had a monthly newsletter. I had a huge mailing list and it was a lot of fun.
Newsletters are voluntary though—you can’t just send one to everybody in your address book.
Allow fans to sign up for your newsletter on your website, and provide a way for people to opt-out of this serv...

Catching Up and Spunky the Cat Update

First, thanks to Alex J. Cavanaugh for featuring me on Thursday. That was a big surprise.

I didn’t post on Monday due to a project I was working on. I knew I wouldn’t be able to visit other bloggers if I did, so I thought it was easier to just skip the day. I appreciate everyone who went back and commented on my comments post. The “Great post!” ones cracked me up.

I’m not participating in the Challenge here this year, but I am contributing to the Insecure Writer’s Support Group website. The p...

How to Comment on Blogs

With the A to Z Challenge in progress, I thought this would be a timely topic.

We all love blog comments. They acknowledge our efforts and make us feel worthy as a person. A comment means we evoked a response. And while blogging isn’t a popularity contest, lots of unique comments also means we have a lot of friends.

What is proper etiquette when it comes to leaving a comment?

1 - Demonstrate that you read the post.

Sometimes we don’t mind “Great post,” but that really doesn’t tell us anything...
