Autumn Giveaway

I'm getting ready to head out for Leicester shortly for tonight's signing, so I'll keep this brief. Tucked away in my last post were the details of an AUTUMN giveaway. Entries will close at midnight tomorrow, so here's a recap of how to get your hands on one of five signed copies of the new UK hardback edition of the book:

For a chance to win a copy, just email autumngiveaway@djmoody.co.uk with the subject 'Spread the Infection'. One email per person please, but you can earn yourself an extra entry or two by sharing this on Facebook or re-tweeting it on Twitter (just include details in your entry email). The winners will be chosen at random and, as always with my competitions, my decision is final! Good luck!

Hope to see some of you in Leicester tonight. Report and photos from this round of signings and events to come soon.

AUTUMN is here!

Hard to believe, but it's nine years since the first version of AUTUMN appeared online. And now, four sequels, half a million free downloads, a movie and a free audio adaptation later, this week the book is getting its first 'proper' mainstream release from Thomas Dunne Books / St Martin's Griffin in the US (26th October) and Gollancz in the UK (28th). You can find out more about the new editions by clicking the covers below.

To celebrate this long-overdue re-release, I'm giving away 5 copies of the brand new UK hardback. To win a copy, just email autumngiveaway@djmoody.co.uk with the subject 'Spread the Infection'. One email per person please, but you can earn yourself an extra entry or two by sharing this on Facebook or re-tweeting it on Twitter. The winners will be chosen at random and you have until Tuesday 2nd November to enter. As always with my competitions, my decision is final! Good luck!

I'm heading out on a short break with the family now before the Autumn book signings start next week, so please bear with me if you send emails, ask questions etc. over the coming days. I'll get back to you as quickly as I can.

And just to answer a question I've been asked several times recently – yes I will be selling signed copies of the book through www.infectedbooks.co.uk. I'll be holding my annual signed book sale in November. Watch this space!

Big hearted horror fans

There's a really interesting new documentary being released next week about Video Nasties. For those of you who aren't in the UK or are too young to remember, hundreds of horror movies were banned here in the 1980′s as a result of an over-zealous attempt to introduce censorship legislation to deal with the rapidly expanding (at the time) home video market. Back in the day, as I recall, the blame for pretty much everything deemed to be wrong with society was laid firmly on the shoulders of those sick and twisted individuals who produced and/or watched horror movies.

I mention Video Nasties to illustrate how we horror fans often get a lot of bad press, and it's not fair! Just because we watch / film / write about the living dead, vampires, werewolves, serial killers, alien invasions etc., doesn't mean we're necessarily bad people! And here's a little proof for you… two die-hard horror fans who are doing it all for charity.

Carl Whiteley is the driving force behind Zombie-Aid – an organisation which puts together a number of zombie walks throughout the UK each year. The Christmas number 1 is always a big deal over here, but this year Zombie-Aid is aiming for the first Halloween number 1 by launching a charity single (it's already number 1 in the pre-order charts). Please click this link and spend a couple of minutes and £1.25 ordering the download. Not only is it for a good cause, but with enough supporters they've got a great chance of hitting number 1 on 31st October, and generating masses of publicity for future Zombie-Aid events. (By the way, the Manchester Zombie Walk takes place during the Grimm Up North Festival. For a full festival programme, click here.)

Lyle Perez-Tinics is best known around these parts as the brains behind the Undead in the Head book review site. Lyle has turned editor for his charity effort, a new zombie anthology book: The Undead That Saved Christmas. As well as an introduction from SG Browne (Breathers), it includes a stack of original zombie tales and comics. All profit will be used to provide Christmas presents for foster kids at the Hugs Foster Family Agency.

Please support both Carl and Lyle's projects. As horror fans, we may well have black, cold hearts, but these two are showing that they're in the right place!

Nenavistni – the Hate reaches the Czechs!

Another new edition of HATER is released on 20th October – Nenavistni – the Czech translation of the book from Vikend. Not sure who the chap on the cover is… definitely not me this time!

It's been very quiet around here recently, but there's lots going on in the background. Regular news posts will recommence very soon so check back over the coming days for: another Post-apocalyptic movie review (this time it's The Day After), an interview with the author of one of the best new zombie novels I've read in a long time, an exclusive AUTUMN giveaway and the launch of my annual signed book sale!

HATER – book of the month

Thanks to everyone who voted and helped make HATER the Freedom Book Club book of the month for October. I really appreciate your support. Take a look at the results graph…

If you have a spare few minutes, there's a follow-up survey here. Whether you voted for HATER or not, I'd urge you to check out the Freedom Book Club and their previous book of the month selections. They're a unique outfit, with a stated purpose of being: devoted to getting books promoting individual liberty on the New York Times Best Seller List. This is done through the bourgeoise multitudes buying the selection of the month all during a specified range of dates (during the same week). It is the goal of Freedom Book Club to transform the world to into a free society through the education of self and sharing with others.
