typos, inconsistencies & plain old mistakes; website stuff

Things will be a little bumpy around here today as far as formatting goes, as I have to change some underlying software. Please forgive the high winds and rough seas.

Find the typo
I dare ya.

Something went wrong in the final editing stages for The Endless Forest. Quite a few errors that were caught (by me or the editor or proofreader) never got corrected in the actual print version. I have had a lot of email from people asking why this should be. Very disappointed with me, some of them.

I'm ...

more questions, for you

Don't forget — if you've finished The Endless Forest, there's a lot of discussion on the spoiler page (link to the right).

I've had some comments and quite a few emails about which posts from the old weblog I should resurrect and repost here. It's going to be a slow process, but I thought I'd run another minipoll and see if interest is concentrated in any particular area. You can pick more than one, but that would kind of defeat the purpose. And things are moving slowly, please be aware...

Three for the price of two: the winners

[image error]The bad news is that I still do not have my copies of The Endless Forest.

The good news is that I decided to give three signed copies away (rather than two)  just because they are not getting there as soon as I'd hoped.

And so we have:

Ezzie (comment 112)

Tiffany (comment 38)

Patty (comment 42)

Congratulations to all three of you.

The three winners have a week to get in touch and provide a mailing address. If I don't have three names next Tuesday at 4 pm (west coast time), I will draw another...

where to discuss The Endless Forest

I have set up a discussion page for the new book. It's not ideal, but I think it will work in this limited case. Here's the caveat: you can go there to read or participate at any time, but there will be spoilers. Mostly it's meant for people who have finished reading the book and want to talk about it. You'll find it here.

books, reviews, memoir, cha cha cha

Just a quick post to clarify some things.

I opened an account at Goodreads.com (you'll find my main page here) where I plan to keep a record of all the fiction and research-related-to-fiction and writing-fiction books organized. I  am also (still) at LibraryThing, but that account is more of an official inventory  for tax purposes, etc.

Little by little I'll be moving reviews from the old weblog over to Goodreads, if you ever are wondering where to find them. Goodreads is a big and...

ITW discussion questions, and the giveaway

I had an email from someone whose bookclub is about to read ITW, and she was wondering about discussion questions. I don't remember if there were any. Does anybody?

Also, I will end the drawing for the signed copies of The Endless Forest on January 17. So far I've only got two copies, but by then hopefully I'll have enough to send out. If you haven't already, please throw your name in the hat:  here.

kissing cows

Note: this is an older post that never actually got posted on the former incarnation of the weblog.

No author looks forward to a bad review, but we know bad reviews are coming; it's inevitable. When we're lucky the bad reviews are clearly written, objective, and constructive.  Any reasonable author will try to figure out if the criticism is valid, and what there is to take away from it. There is a lot of good, constructive criticism out there.

To each his own.

have you thrown your name in the hat? and: about mail

There's been an upsurge in email over the last week, so I think I need to clarify a few things. Please be aware that while I love to hear from readers, I just can't afford the time to answer them as I would like to. I hope you'll understand my need to stay focused on work at hand. Also, I've been getting a few questions more than others,, so I thought I should just answer them upfront:

Book tours, readings, signings: There are none planned. This has to come from the publisher, and Random...
