Alma lives! Moss rules!
Dear Ones -
Over the weekend, many of you sent me this link to a story from NPR that the great produced about moss — specifically about how, over centuries, moss makes limestone into marble…and it includes quotes from THE SIGNATURE OF ALL THINGS, which is just so lovely to see.

The "Travel Gods" haven't YET blessed me with enough dinero to go on my own "Eat, Pray, Love" kind of journey, so for the weekend I've retreated to this beautiful mountain community of artists to do some writing; picturesque Idyllwild, California. What better to bring with, then a little inspiration and good reading from Liz Gilbert?! "The Signature of All Things" took a walk with me last night and this morning.

I wanted to share this article about my dear friend John Morse — an artist who is one of the most creative souls I have ever met. He decided recently that he wanted to have a piece of his artwork at the Guggenheim Museum…so he just installed some art himself, without asking permission…and all in the most charming and delightful way: By dressing up his friends in the color spectrum of the rainbow, and just having them walk around the museum, making people happy.
I love this man's spirit!
Go make art in the world, people!

My lowest self says: "That person is acting like a total jerk!"
My slightly higher self says: "That person is acting like a total jerk right now only because he's going through a really hard time in life, and his parents never taught him how to behave better, and he might have some sort of mild mental illness, and also he has a drinking problem…so I should try to be more compassionate and generous toward sad, tragic, miserable people like that."
My even higher self says: "We are all just flawed and frightened human beings in an uncertain world, struggling to survive."
Then finally my VERY highest self says: "Lord, please help me stop acting like a total jerk."
…and that's when it finally stops being about the other person at all.
