HELLO, THE NETHERLANDS…I am on my way to see you!

OK, my beautiful Dutch friends — I am sorry it took me so long to sort all this out, but I FINALLY have all the up to date info about my trip to Amsterdam (and Haarlam, and The Hague) in late November.

Here are the details:

http://www.elizabethgilbert.com/events/

And there is also a contest, for 15 readers to win a chance to have tea with me on November 27 at the Hortus Botanicus Gardens themselves (a place of much importance to "The Signature of All Things", as many of you already know!")

Click here for details: (At least I think it is details…I don't speak Dutch!)

See you soon, dear ones!

A 19th Century Naturalist's Travel-Sized Collection Kit…

I thought those of you who are reading THE SIGNATURE OF ALL THINGS might enjoy this image! Just the thing Alma could have used in the field on her travels…

SOAT in Paris with a determined book-shopper!

SOAT in Paris with a determined book-shopper!

I am in Paris with my daughter on an amazing adventure to celebrate her 16th birthday. On the way we spent time in Reykjavik, Iceland and London. Every bookstore I've been in I've looked for your book (SOAT) to see what the cover looks like and in the hopes to buy them. You'll be pleased to know that every bookstore I've been to its sold out of the book. However, walking through Paris earlier today, I came across Shakespeare and Co. and lo and behold, one copy left. I read SOAT right when it came out. It made a huge impression on me. It has been for me the best book I've had the pleasure of reading. — at Shakespeare And Company Paris.

SOAT with some mossy walking boots!

SOAT with some mossy walking boots!

Had a gorgeous walk through a part of our woods which I call 'the moss forest' (very wet and green!) and thought of Alma – oh how she would love it – sacred and spooky at the same time. I didn't have my camera with me, but here are my trusty boots after the walk…

I think this was Oscar Wilde's pithy translation of the wise old line from the Bhagavad Gita that it's better to live your own life imperfectly than to live a perfect imitation of somebody else's…

Also, the older I get, the more difficult it becomes for me to be anyone but myself, anyhow. Whether this is because I'm just to tired and lazy to fake alternate identities anymore, or whether I am settling (like an old house) deeper into my own true foundations, I don't know.

One way or another, let us all make an effort today embrace (or at least surrender to) our essential us-ness!

(And thanks for all the sweetness yesterday, you guys. You are all incredibly lovely.)

Heart,
LG

SOAT in Germany (where I shall be coming soon!)

When I queued up in front of the pay desk at the book shop one of the shop assistants came to me and asked very surprised "HOW did you hear of THAT book?" I replied "Have you heard of Facebook?" :) So here´s my German copy together with cosy candle light and some "Pterygota alata" (we call it "Buddhanuss" = buddha nut).
