Read Our Lips #2: Boys You Hate, and Michele’s Ugg Prejudice
I had the most amazing time at TLA (the Texas Library Association conference) and at my signing at the Blue Willow Book Shop! Seriously, it was so fun.
Although I must admit, I’m exhausted. I’m crashed in my hotel room right now, barely able to move, listening to Vampire Weekend and eating M&Ms given to me by the amazing Meghan and Claire and their awesome mom (who probably isn’t expecting to have this blog linked to)!
I can’t even tell you how many incredible librarians I’ve met here in Housto

Sweet Sixteen
Happy April Fool’s Day (also happy wedding anniversary for those of you who got married on April 1st, which, hello, I did)!
And so, of course, I’m headed for Texas (no joke).
I can’t wait! I’m going to be in the Houston area, where I once spent a summer when I was in college. It’s one of my favorite places. The Galleria! The Menil Museum! The vintage clothing shops….
OK, I know there probably aren’t a lot of those anymore…but I got some great finds back in the day!
Not actual vintage clothi

Read Our Lips
Hey! Here’s something Michele Jaffe and I have been working on, with the help of my friends Brian and Lisa (Lisa was my first boss at Hayden Hall, the dorm I worked in at NYU. You won’t find a character based on Lisa in the Heather Wells mystery series though…at least not yet!)…
…and we did it with YOUR help, too!
Yes! We used YOUR advice questions to make “Read Our Lips,” our new advice vlog! Future episodes will air soon. We’ll try to post them on Fridays, and make every Friday “Read Our

Made of Suck
Wow! Lots of requests for Being Nikki Advanced Reader Copies. Keep them coming! We’re still sorting through the requests and seeing how many copies we can get from the publisher. We (by we I mean myself or Nancy, my indefatigable assistant) will let you know if one is headed your way.
And, um, we (by we I mean see above) still haven’t shipped out the prizes to the Airhead song contest winners yet, so stand by: a copy of this may still be coming to your mailbox soon.
I had a busy weekend of wri

No Blue Wieners (or Zombies) Allowed
Guess what? Her Royal Highness Princess Mia Thermopolis has updated her blog (finally…it’s hard to be a student princess/romance novelist). There’s Ransom My Heart in France and Spring Break news! Mon Dieu.
And if you haven’t voted for Airhead as your choice for Teen Book of the Year at the Children’s Choice Book Awards, what are you waiting for? Vote here!

(Can you vote for more than one book, or vote more than once? Why not? I don’t think anyone is stopping you.)
And I just got this fant

The Day After
Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
I hope you’re wearing green, even if you’re not Irish…it’s lucky, you know. And we all need as much luck as we can get these days!
I had my Friends of the Library event last night with Judy Blume and though I do say so myself, I think it went pretty well!
(I wish I had some photos, but a camera is the one thing I forgot to bring with me–although I did remember my pens, Listerine Pocket Packs, lip gloss, and compact. And no one has emailed me any of their photos yet.)

Did you see it?
Were you there?
Don’t worry! If you missed it, you can go here and watch the whole thing…and register to win the bedroom set, which is SUPER CUTE, as you can see here:

(You win both beds and the bedding and the night stand and the lamp and the alarm clock and the green polk-a-dot rug which you can’t see in this photo. You don’t win the ladies sitting on the beds though.)
The event was super fun. The best part (besides getting to meet my readers at the signing afterwards, and also during the e

It’s Slumber Party Day!
I’m getting ready for my slumber party with comedian Caroline Rhea tonight (although technically, we’re not actually sleeping over anywhere, but we’ll be wearing pajamas) and I haven’t even washed my hair yet.
Although it’s pretty exciting (not the hair part) because kids sent in their own rules and tonight they find out if their rule got picked to be read on air (or…web. Whatever).
The grand prize winner gets a free set of books and also will have their rule in Allie Finkle Book #5, which is

Publication Day!
I can’t believe it! This day totally snuck up on me. I only got off the plane for New York City (yes! The Big Apple! Actually, I hate it when people call it that, because, whatever, there really aren’t that many more apples here than anywhere else) yesterday, and next thing I knew—Allie Finkle’s Rules for Girls #3, Best Friends and Drama Queens is in stores today!
(Guess what? You don’t have to have read Book 1 and 2 to catch on to what is happening in Book 3. Although I guess it wouldn’t h

Advice, Please!
Whenever I was feeling sad because a boy had said something mean to me or dumped me or asked some other girl to the prom and not me, my mom would make me a cup of hot cocoa in a special Mary Englebreit mug we used to have that looked like this:
It had this written on the side:
“Now listen and believe me, I am not just saying this because I am your mother: You are the prettiest, nicest girl in the entire school, not to mention the brightest and if you don’t believe me just look in the mirror. I hap
