Mariah's Revenge (Sequel to Hunting Mariah) - by J. E. (Janice) Spina

This book begins where the first book, Hunting Mariah, left off. This suspense/thriller/crime novel will keep you turning pages as the tension grows. There will be twists and turns and some surprises.

Many of the same characters will be in play to give support and encouragement to Mariah along the way. A new man comes into Mariah's life that reminds her of someone she wants to forget. He threatens to bring back the horrors that she and her family once endured. While the one she wants to forget suffers from a horrendous attack that puts his life in jeopardy. Mariah must draw on her strength and resilience to survive danger at every turn. How much more can Mariah endure? How far will Mariah go to protect her family?

Cold Coffee Review: Mariah’s Revenge is the thriller/suspense/crime fiction sequel to Author Janice (J. E.) Spina’s book titled ‘Hunting Mariah’. If you remember in book one, we traveled with Mariah on a psychic journey to recover her memories, as she lived with the consequences of living life with a maniac.

Jump right into book two as we get a better understanding of Sage’s killing spree across New Hampshire, Vermont and New York. While police officers, FBI agents and others are looking for Sage, Mariah buried herself in her studies, as she is determined to move forward. Sage has encountered an enemy of his own, beyond his wildest imagination.

While he is dealing with injuries of his own, he is unaware that someone is watching Mariah and ready to “take over where he left off”. When a body of an old woman, a dog and then another body at Tambor Lake is discovered, the authorities know they are dealing with a psychopath and the body count is sure to rise.

Author Janice (J. E.) Spina uses a full case of supporting characters in this suspenseful, action-driven drama where Mariah finds the courage to take things into her own hands. Mariah is not one to give up. Her heart is open for lasting love when her grandmother shows support for her and Tony.

Mariah showed her courage and determination to handle any situation and I quote. “Mariah pushed open the door and moved her light back and forth. She saw a mess of broken down furniture piled up in one corner of the room and a bed in the other. The covers appeared to be piled up under the bed. She moved closer to look under the pile. She kept her gun out in front of her and the light sweeping back and forth. Mariah wasn’t prepared for what happened next.” This is a must read if you believe in the kind of fortitude that Mariah uses to work through her tragedies and the kidnapping to forge a friendship and embrace whatever life has next in store.

I, Theodocia McLean, endorse Mariah’s Revenge by Janice (J. E.) Spina as an adventure that is not over. I now wait for the third book in this series to find out what life has in store for Mariah. I purchased this book from Kindle. This review was completed on June 1, 2018.

An insane killer, obsessed with blood and death, seeks revenge with those he perceives wronged him. He is now on the loose. His next victim may be Mariah.

Cold Coffee Review: Mariah has lost her memory. Will she remember what has transpired in her past? Can Mariah escape this deadly killer's grasp? Will she finally be safe? Will the killer be apprehended?

Jump right into this intense crime, mystery, thriller set in a suburb of New York as author J. E. Spina introduces the reader to the thought process of a serial killer. “His senses were tingling with the sight, smell, and feel of blood. The silky texture of it and its coppery smell and even the intoxicating taste of it. Just the smell alone could cause desire to rush through his body causing a compelling urge to kill. He felt a thrill at the prospect of taking a life.”

Meet Mariah Michelle Hampton and Dr. Roberts as he begins the slow meticulous process of bringing her memories back while in a safe place at the Dr. Darin J. Roberts Memorial Hospital in Lindan, New York. Many people care about and are looking out for Mariah whether she fully realizes it or not.

There are so many unanswered questions like who was the mystery man that dropped Mariah off at the hospital? How did he know her taste in clothing and detail to sizes when he dropped items off for her? What happened to her and why is it that she can remember some of her childhood memories, but not the last few weeks? Travel with Mariah on a psychic journey to recover her memories and live with the consequences surrounding her trauma and life with a maniac that might still be at large and want to finish what he started.

I, Theodocia McLean, endorse Hunting Mariah by J. E. Spina as the beginning of a great crime fiction series. I purchased this book from Kindle. This review was completed on January 5, 2015.

Clarence Henry is different from other hermit crabs. He came to his new home minus one claw and a leg. He needs to protect himself until he can grow new appendages. Will Clarence Henry be able to meet the challenges in his new water world? Clarence Henry was a real aquatic hermit crab who lives in a saltwater fish tank in our home. We watched him interact with the other creatures in the tank. He was resilient, intelligent, and a joy to have as a pet. We took some photos of him as he grew his claw and leg and changed shells. We shared these photos and facts about hermit crabs in the back of the book. I hope you will enjoy them. This book will make a wonderful resource for classrooms.

This book is based on my dog, Lucy, who I had for 16 years. She was quite a character and did all the things that are in this book. She also plans to write more books in this MG girls’ series, book 6 of the Davey & Derek Junior Detectives Series and begin a YA fantasy series over the next two years. Janice loves to hear from readers and welcome reviews wherever her books are sold.

Her motto is Reading Gives You Wings to Fly! Soar with Jemsbooks! Her goal is to encourage children of all ages to read. Reading is good for your health. Happy reading!

Interview:

What makes you proud to be a writer from Londonderry, NH? Wherever I lived I would be proud to be a writer because this is something I love to do and I feel as if I am living my dream each day. What or who inspired you to become a writer? I was inspired by the positive things my mother said to me when I was just nine years old. I wrote her poems for her birthday and Mother's Day. She was very proud and happy to receive them.

When did you begin writing with the intention of becoming published? I began writing at age nine - poetry and then children's stories in my twenties and thirties. I always wanted to be published but did not reach my goal until the ripe young age of 65.

Did your environment or upbringing play a major role in your writing and did you use it to your advantage? I was always a shy and timid child and learned to amuse myself through writing. I think this influenced me to write more and express myself through my writing. Writing has helped me get out of my shell and feel more confident doing what I love to do.

Please introduce your genre and why you prefer to write in that genre? I love writing children's books but also enjoy writing novels in many genres - mysteries, psychological thrillers, romance, spiritual and historical. I have eclectic taste in genres, reading and writing.

What has been your most rewarding experience with your writing and publishing journey? Becoming an author, my dream since a young child, has been the most rewarding experience with the writing process. The most rewarding part of writing and publishing is seeing my books in print and hearing that readers are enjoying them. That is why I write.

What do you like to do when you are not writing? I love to crochet, take long walks with my husband, go to the movies and out to dinner, and spend time with my grandchildren. I love to travel and enjoy sharing my trips on my blog in my travel posts.

What one positive piece of advice would you give to other authors? Believe in yourself and follow your heart in doing what you love to do. Work hard at your craft and learn everything you can to improve and cultivate your art.

Who is your favorite author and why? I have so many favorite authors but one that I read extensively is Jeffrey Archer. He has the innate ability to create a fascinating tale involving so many creative, well defined and unforgettable characters. I also read some excellent indie authors – Richard C. Hale, Sally Cronin, Debby Gies, and many others.

Is there anything else that you would like to share with us? I want to thank everyone who has ever supported me and continues to support me in all my endeavors. For their friendship and assistance, I am truly grateful. I feel blessed to be able to do what I love to do every day of the rest of my life, thanks to God.

Summer Girl: A Novel by Linda Watkins
"Does first love, true love, ever really die?" Andi Martin asks herself that question as she sits on the porch of the Sloane Cottage, her mind flooded with memories of the summer of '65 and a boy, once loved, but never forgotten.

Jake Chambers is also on a collision course with the past as he returns to Cutter Island for the first time in more than a decade. And, as the ferry approaches the wharf, he finds his mind filled with thoughts of a summer long forgotten and a girl destined to haunt him forever.

From award-winning author, Linda Watkins, comes a story of love, loss, survival, and, most of all, hope...Summer Girl, A Novel.

"...take a deep breath; because Summer Girl isn't formula writing about a summer fling, but a deeper story of coming of age, sexual abuse in families, and methods of survival that enter the picture of a blossoming interpersonal relationship, making Summer Girl an unexpectedly complex read." D. Donovan, Senior Reviewer, Midwest Book Review

"A heartfelt story of a boy and a girl....it captivated my heart from beginning to end." Patricia Bell for Readers Favorite

"...a tale of love arisen and somehow - despite vicious betrayal and extended adversity - preserved and growing, creating its own special hope." J. Scott Payne, author of Brought to Battle and The Green Hell

"Watkins is an outstanding author of literary fiction who writes about real life, real love, real pain, and reconciliation Summer Girl does just that. Watkins ‘characters are drawn from the heart. Summer Girl is a coming of life story told from a mature viewpoint. The story is about a young woman who has suffered abuse at an early age and finds love... and loss. The book is emotional, tender and will touch the hearts of every reader. Highly recommended as a superb summer read" Judith Lucci, Wall Street Journal Bestselling Author

Cold Coffee Book Review: Author Linda Watkins is another great Maine author who takes her readers on a journey that I found mesmerizing. With skilled precision, Linda lays out a summer chance encounter that leaves two young teens changed forever. I dare say that Andi and Jake’s story will grip your heart and might even bring back some summer memories of your own.

This well woven love story illuminates the magic of summer and the tragedy of abuse. Jake’s story took me back to my own lost summers. Andi’s story gripped my heart, as ghosts emerged from the shadows in my mind.

Ride the ferry boat over to Cutter Island, Maine with Jake as he returns in the summer of 1985. You know the feeling, the roller coaster ride of emotions as you return to a place in your childhood or youth. Time has a way of standing still, bringing back the sweet aromas, sights, sounds, and memories that are buried deep in your soul.

Join Jake and Andi on their adventure as the author takes us back to 1965. Listen to Jake as he explains, “Thus, we passed the balmy days of July. When I wasn’t working, I was with her. We took in an occasional movie, played golf, attended a local dance, or partied with other kids on the beach. But the time I relished most was when we were alone at Preacher’s Cove. Preacher’s was a small strip of sand down behind the Cutter Island Cemetery. Not too many people knew about it or went there because it was rocky and not a good place to sunbathe or swim. But for Andi and me it was heaven on earth.”

Feel the mounting emotion, as the summer of 1965 is drawing to an end. Jake and Andi’s teen romantic is threatened by the realization that their time is growing short and they are one ferry boat ride away from being separated forever. Unlike Romeo and Juliet, Jake and Andi choose to live and let life run its course.

Once you begin reading, you will want to follow their lives to the end of this book. See for yourself if young love can survive the test of time. What mysteries can The Sloane Cottage reveal after all these years?

I, Theodocia McLean, endorse Summer Girl by Linda Watkins as a summer likely to happen in the allure of young hearts and minds when time stands still for just a few weeks. I purchased this book from Kindle. This review was completed on May 29, 2018.

Sarah and Zoey: A Story About The Power of Unconditional Love by Linda Watkins
From award-winning author, Linda Watkins, comes a story of two women, from different walks of life, and the one dog who loved them both....

A feature writer for the Boston Globe, Sarah Palmer had it all – a beautiful apartment, a great job, and a family she adored. A thousand miles away, Mindy Sue Watson didn’t have it so good. Trapped in a marriage to an abusive alcoholic, her only pleasure was in tossing a ball to a skinny dog she’d adopted from the local shelter.

Sarah & Zoey is the tale of these two women and the one remarkable dog who saved them both. It is a story of the power of unconditional love.

"Three disparate lives - two human, one canine - whirl through a circle of circumstance that is poignant, involving, and especially moving to dog lovers who want a novella about crisis, escape, and recovery. Sarah and Zoey can be read in short segments, so it's perfect for busy fiction readers who want high drama packed into succinct chapters. The mechanics whereby loss and endangered lives heal are nicely portrayed in a winning story that emphasizes hope and offers an involving tale dog lovers will relish." D. Donovan, Midwest Book Review

"Every character is beautifully drawn, the contrasting lives and settings are vivid and so very different, the pace is fast, and the end utterly unpredictable. Sarah & Zoey is a powerful, heart-tugging story that must be read at one sitting; it’s too enthralling to put down. I loved this five-star novella, and I’ll be looking for more by Linda Watkins” Sarah Stuart for Readers Favorite

“A heart-warming novella with a feel-good factor that readers of this genre will enjoy immensely.” Jane Finch for Readers Favorite

"I loved this book! Even though the opening scenes were full of portent and dread (reading along, knowing something terrible was going to happen but no way to stop it) we learn of a woman who loses her husband and son to a freak accident; and another woman, a battered wife who is almost killed by her abusive spouse but is saved by her loyal dog, and then find that the dog is dragged almost to death by that husband… Where do you go from there? This awesome weaving of two injured women tied together by a remarkable dog is a story you won’t soon forget. I only wish it were longer, and I’m begging for a sequel!" Sherrill S. Cannon, Award-winning Author of "The Golden Rule."

2016 FINALIST IN HORROR/SUSPENSE ~ INDEPENDENT AUTHOR NETWORK BOOK OF THE YEAR AWARDS2015 FIRST PLACE AWARD WINNER IN CONTEMPORARY GOTHIC FICTION ~ CHANTICLEER BOOK REVIEW'S PARANORMAL AWARDS2014 FINALIST IN HORROR ~ READERS' FAVORITE INTERNATIONAL BOOK AWARD COMPETITION"Fans of Watkins's Mateguas Island will welcome this solid sequel…Watkins smoothly integrates the paranormal with a complex family drama." Publishers Weekly

"This is a quick-paced story portraying a wide range of human emotions, deadly supernatural forces and ancient Native American beliefs that may help the characters survive the ordeal in store. It explores the depths of love and loss, dedication and defiance, innocence and desire - all in spite of the threat of losing everything. This is supernatural fiction at its best with a hint of coming-of-age enlightenment to appeal to younger readers as well as readers of all ages." Melinda Hills for Readers’ Favorite

"The real power in Return To Mateguas Island lies not so much in its inclusion of supernatural rituals as in its exploration of simmering emotions that lay just under the surface...Thus, its power and strength are most evident in its explorations of interpersonal relationships...the supernatural force described serves as a catalyst for events; not the end-all of these explorations. And it's the centrifuge of a whirlwind of emotional forces that swirl around all involved in the backdrop that is Mateguas Island and its mystical heritage ... the compelling draw of the island and its mysteries create suitable devices for a novel that excels in emotional interconnections with a dash of supernatural suspense added in for good measure." D. Donovan, eBook Reviewer, Midwest Book Review

"The use of lore and characters from Native American tribes is rendered beautifully, with the honor and respect so often overlooked in contemporary books ...Though it’s the second in a trilogy, this tale has a satisfying beginning, middle, and end—a journey readers won’t soon forget and one they will want to continue until all their questions are answered" Julie York for InD'Tale Magazine, February 2016.

"Return to Mateguas Island by Linda Watkins was a gripping read ... Excellent story-line, excellent characters in an all-round thrilling read. Linda's attention to detail is second to none and the book is very professionally written. Loved it!" Anne-Marie Reynolds for Readers’ Favorite

"Linda Watkins' contemporary dark fantasy, Return to Mateguas Island: A Tale of Supernatural Suspense, is well-written and fast-paced. While this is the second book in Watkins' Mateguas Trilogy, the author gives enough background to enable it to stand on its own, but the first book, Mateguas Island, is as marvelous, dark and brooding as this one is, and I'd recommend starting from there ...The Indian folklore that serves as the basis for this trilogy is so compelling, and Terri's interactions with Charlie, the elder Indian at the museum were powerful and intriguing ... Return to Mateguas Island: A Tale of Supernatural Suspense is absorbing dark fantasy, and it's most highly recommended." Jack Magnus for Readers’ Favorite

A harbinger of evil, so ancient it defies memory, surfaces on the rocky shores of Mateguas...

2017 FINALIST IN "THRILLERS," Book Excellence Awards2017 FINALIST IN HORROR/SUSPENSE - IAN Book of the Year Awards"Ghosts of Mateguas joins others in the Mateguas Island saga in providing the third novel in a series that excels in blending supernatural forces with a family's relationships and the lure of an island which has changed all their lives ... Ghosts of Mateguas offers a compelling saga of grief, guilt, and perseverance that deftly combines suspense with supernatural intrigue. Prior fans of the series, especially, will find the further interactions between the characters to be engrossing and satisfying, staying true to prior events while adding deeper insights and tension and intrigue to the mix and adding a dose of revelations and truths that draw together prior events in a satisfying new story just as well-crafted as its predecessors." Diane Donovan, Senior Reviewer, Midwest Book Review

"...a vivid and poetic read that beautifully channels modern supernatural melodrama ... Watkins plays to some deeply apparent strengths in this series, and Ghosts of Mateguas is another home-run of a title. Anyone looking for something different along the lines of Shirley Jackson or Stephen King, your prayers have been answered. Ghosts of Mateguas stands as a spellbinding exemplar of modern Gothic Americana." Self-Publishing Review

"Linda Watkins’ supernatural suspense novel, Ghosts of Mateguas: A Mateguas Island Novel, is dark, fast-paced and intense ...I had a grand time reading Ghosts of Mateguas and hope the author decides to write a fourth book in this terrifying and suspenseful series. It’s most highly recommended." Jack Magnus for Readers’ Favorite (5-Star Review)

"Those who love stories with some touch of mystery will not be disappointed with this one ... Watkins writes with moving simplicity, a kind of prose that tantalizes and is difficult to put down, because it rings with an eloquence that is akin to the spell of the ghosts sauntering along the rocky shores of Mateguas. It can be difficult to believe a story told about humans and ghosts, but when that story is told by Watkins, it becomes as convincing as it is real ... The story is fast paced; the suspense is so skillfully built into the story to have the reader turning the pages, and the characters are solid enough that any reader will care about what happens to them. One would say that Ghosts of Mateguas comes with a spell that makes the book impossible to put down. Beautifully written by a writer of a rare caliber." Romuald Dzemo for Readers’ Favorite (5-Star Review)

"I found Ghosts of Mateguas to be a quick-paced psychological thriller/horror story. The various stories that made up the tapestry of the whole were equally engaging and kept me turning the pages. If you enjoy books similar to Stephen King and Dean Koontz, be sure to check out the Mateguas Island books!" J. Aislynn d'Merricksson for Readers Favorite (5-Star Review)

Cold Coffee Press Spotlight Interview With Author Linda Watkins
Linda Watkins is the author of the multi-award-winning Mateguas Island Series.

She currently resides in Sedona, Arizona and, in another life, was a Senior Clinical Financial Analyst at Stanford University School of Medicine.

In 2006, she packed her belongings and, along with her four rescue dogs, took the plunge and moved to a remote island off the coast of Maine. It was there that she wrote Mateguas Island, which has garnered the following awards:
2014 Gold Medal, Supernatural Fiction, Readers Favorite International Book Award Competition2014 First Place Award, Contemporary Gothic, Chanticleer Book Review, Paranormal Awards2015 Outstanding Novel in Horror/Suspense, IAN Book of the Year AwardsThe second novel in the series, Return To Mateguas Island, was awarded:
First Place in Contemporary Gothic Fiction in the 2015 Chanticleer Book Review’s Paranormal AwardsWas Named 2015 Finalist in Horror by Readers Favorite International Book Award Competition2016 Finalist in Horror by the IAN Book of the Year Awards.Interview:

What makes you proud to be a writer from Sedona, AZ? While my home is in Sedona now, I actually started writing seriously when I lived in Maine (Chebeague Island). I finished my first novel, Mateguas Island, there. I then moved to Muskegon, Michigan where I stayed for three short years. While in Michigan, I completed the sequel to Mateguas Island (Return to Mateguas Island) and the third novel in the series, Ghosts of Mateguas. Not happy with the weather in Muskegon (too much snow), I again set out to find a new home. I moved to Sedona in October of 2016. Sedona, with its abundant sunshine and beautiful red rocks, has been good for my writing and, since moving here, I have written Summer Girl and completed two unpublished works, Storm Island: A Kate Pomeroy Mystery, and The Witches of Storm Island, Book I: The Turning. These two works I expect to publish later in the year.
I’m proud to be a writer from each one of these states because they all inspired me, in one way or another, to put pen to paper and, thus, express my creativity.

What or who inspired you to become a writer? I’ve always been writing. As a child, my sister and I wrote plays based on the popular TV shows of the period. As an adult, I continued writing - mostly whimsical pieces, songs, and poems – and, at work (Stanford University), business plans and promotion papers for the Professoriate. When I decided to try my hand at a novel, it was my sister who was the first to encourage me. She is also a writer.

Did your environment or upbringing play a major role in your writing and did you use it to your advantage? Yes. Most of my books take place on islands much like the one I lived on for seven years. In the Mateguas books, this location brings a sense of isolation to the narrative, thus enhancing the suspense. In Summer Girl, I strove to express the wonders of island life and the strong sense of community that exists in these remote locations. In Storm Island, another Gothic novel, my heroine must deal with the limitations of island life, i.e., poor communication via Internet or phone. In addition, like with Mateguas, the sense of isolation is heightened.

What has been your most rewarding experience with your writing and publishing journey? The positive feedback (reviews, awards) I’ve received for my novels. I love getting a good review and it gives me a thrill when people from all over the world enjoy my work.

How many published books do you have? I have four novels, one novella, and one novelette published. I have two other works completed (a novel and a novella). I expect to publish these later this year.

Please introduce your genre and why you prefer to write in that genre? Three of my published novels and my novelette are American Gothic (The Mateguas Island Series and Secrets). My other novel is Literary Fiction (Summer Girl) and my novella is Women’s Fiction. The two unpublished manuscripts are, once again, American Gothic.
I like writing Gothic fiction because it’s really over the top. The genre stretches the boundaries of reality, has an aura of mystery, and, also, can include a smattering of romance. It’s a fun genre to write. On the other hand, a novel like Summer Girl was difficult to write because it deals with serious subject matter – child abuse. I cried a lot when as I wrote it, but, in the end, I believe it’s my best work to date.

What one positive piece of advice would you give to other authors? Don’t give up! Keep writing no matter what.

Who is your favorite author and why? My favorite author is Stephen King, mainly because he draws his characters so beautifully, especially little kids and teenage boys. But he didn’t write my favorite book, which is The Magus by John Fowles (original edition). No matter how many times I read The Magus, I always come away with some new insight on life. Another book that I love is The Lightkeepers by Abby Geni. Ms. Geni paints a picture with every scene, sometimes beautiful and, sometimes, dark and terrible. These novels inspire me and, I hope, make me a better writer.

Authors Linda Diane Wattley and William Sumner are veterans of the United States Army. They teamed up together to write this extraordinary and unique book because they both have a heart for people suffering with PTSD, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Interview:

What makes you proud to be a writer from Akron Ohio? I am writing from Akron, Ohio. What makes me proud to be a writer is the fact I never gave up even though I learned by trial and error to finally self-publish my own book and it comes out amazing!  And, my writing is well received by readers and makes a difference in the lives of others.

What or who inspired you to become a writer? I love writing because the experience is awesome taking the unseen and bringing it into the seen.  It's not anything like it.

Did your environment or upbringing play a major role in your writing and did you use it to your advantage? Definitely!  After years of sexual, mental and physical abuse, I found a voice in writing.  And, I learned I was not the only one.  But I learned, everybody cannot interpret the feelings and twisting thoughts that result after abuse.  I can do it so naturally which makes me so grateful for such a priceless gift.
When did you begin writing with the intention of becoming published?

What has been your most rewarding experience with your writing process? My writing process opened many doors to embrace and be embraced by others.

What has been the most rewarding experience in your publishing journey? Publishing my first self-published book and confident that it is a blessing for others.

Do you come up with your title(s) before or after you write the manuscript? I have had titles before, doing and after completion depending on how it all comes together in meaning.

Please introduce your genre and why you prefer to write in that genre? I had a difficult time narrowing down a genre because I feel the book is so universal but to say it is a self-help, self-growth, spiritual and psychological general.

What would one positive piece of advice you give to other authors? Know that whatever is within you to express in words, do it knowing others are waiting to read them.

Who is your favorite author and why? Maya Angelou because she was so honest.

Tales From The Riverside – by Larry Landgraf

Tales from the Riverside tells true and unique stories about one man’s struggle with alligators, snakes, killer bees, and hordes of nasty critters on a daily basis in his swamp. Experience the danger without the need for professional medical services. Life in a swamp is not for everyone.

Cold Coffee Review: Tales from the Riverside, is a refreshing group of stories that you will relate to if you are not a born and raised a city dweller. If you are a city dweller, you will enjoy the stories, because Author Larry Landgraf writes with candor and humor as he shares his life on the Guadalupe River in Texas.

The author states it best “I’m a swamp dweller”. The book is divided up by thirty-five personal stories with actual photos which illustrate points of interest. Here are a few of his interesting titles: City Gals and Fishing, Catching Moccasins, You Are What You Eat, War in the Swamp, Our Wild Sex Life, Who’s to Blame...Our Dying Estuary, and The Day My World Blew Up in My Face, Literally to name a few.

I love the author’s statement, “There are dozens of ways to die in a swamp. There are just as many ways to die, if not more, in the city.” He goes on the say, “In my opinion, the most dangerous animal on this planet is man. I’ll take my chances with the alligators, bees, snakes, and all the other creatures that live in my swamp.”

As for Larry, he is more comfortable in the swamp where he and his girlfriend can have a garden and fry fresh catfish, not to mention battling with what will walk, fly, crawl, and slitter out of the swamp. Larry and Ellen (city gal) enjoy their beautiful, peaceful and even dangerous environment. He and his partner respect the power of nature, even when they had to endure the wrath of Hurricane Harvey.

Larry shares intimate personal life stories with words that will draw you into the swamp with him. You will feel compassion for Ellen (city woman), living life in a swamp. He even shares some of his mother’s recipes, which look downright yummy.

I, Theodocia Mclean, endorse Tales from the Riverside by Larry Landgraf as a great way to see how Larry lives his life and what he chooses to share with us readers. I purchased this book from Kindle and enjoyed it so much, I turned around and purchased a print paperback copy from Amazon to give to my husband as a Father’s Day gift. Hawk McCoy: The Penthiads - by Mary T Kincaid

Hawk McCoy: The Penthiads - by Mary T Kincaid
Hawk McCoy is a fifth-grade boy looking for a mystery in his hometown of Izlet Bay, Georgia. He has his Fingerprints for All Occasions Guide, and his Super Sleuth 100 to work with. Where will he find his mystery? He and his best friend, Sandy Sue South walk dogs, garden, wash doors, and they do find mysterious sisters living in their town

Genre: Children's eBooks, Mysteries & Detectives, Fantasy & Supernatural, Science Fiction, Fantasy & Scary Stories, Fantasy & Magic

Cold Coffee Review: Hawk McCoy is a boy with an imagination. For all us adults who grew up exploring our neighborhood, solving mysteries with our neighborhood side-kicks, it is time to share stories like this with our children, grandchildren and great children in the hopes they too will leave the comfort of their game console and explore the world around them.

I wonder how many fifth graders today are using their imaginations to explore the world around them like Hawk McCoy and his best friend Sandy Sue.

The book is divided up into dated events like: MORNING: 6/4/2013, 9:00AM WASHINGTON, DC- GOVERNMENT OFFICE OF PROTECTION.

Mary T. Kincaid has written four middle grade books and has contributed to at least three anthologies.

I, Theodocia McLean, endorse Hawk McCoy: The Penthiads by Mary T Kincaid as the author reminds me of the endearing Aunt who lets you explore her basement, attic, yard, and neighborhood with gadgets made from items found around her home. I purchased this book from Kindle. This review was posted on May 3, 2018.

Warlord Of The Forgotten Age (Legends of Windemere Book 15) by Charles E. Yallowitz

Warlord Of The Forgotten Age (Legends of Windemere Book 15) by Charles E. Yallowitz
For those of us who entered Windemere, it has left a mark upon our souls. We thank Author Charles E. Yallowitz for his gift of adult fantasy storytelling and hope he will enthrall us again soon.

Careful not to spoil this conclusion to The Legends Of Windemere series, I chose this quote as a sneak peek into Warlord of the Forgotten Age.

Quote from Chapter 17:
“Having lost contact with his friends, Delvin struggles to crawl through the rubble and reach the last place he sensed them. The magical arrow is still protruding from his eye and the infectious tendrils continue to push against his powers. His vision is a blurry mess due to the injury and his rising exhaustion, which make every movement pure agony. With his fount powers focused entirely on healing, the warrior feels as defenseless as an infant and worries that he might get killed before he can face the Baron again. For the countless time, he stops to grip the arrow’s shaft and gives a small tug to see if it can be removed. The painful headache that rockets through his skull causes Delvin to collapse and slide down the smoky remains of a house, which he unknowingly scaled. Rolling over the eave, he hits the cobblestones with his face and screams when the projectile is driven a bit further into his eye socket. Unable to continue moving, he gets onto his back and watches the sky for signs of his friends. Putting his shield on his chest and drawing his sword, the warrior is unsure if he is trying to appear ready for battle or pose for his funeral.”

Be sure to read the Author’s Note at the end of this book as he explains how the series came about and evolved. He gives credit where credit is due and he appreciates those of us who invested our time in Windemere.

I encourage those of you who have never read one book in this series to jump in because Windemere will leave a mark on your soul. Note to movie directors and investors who are on the search for the next fantasy to light up the silver screen or create a cult like following for a TV series, look no further than Legend of Windemere. It will be worth your investment.

I, Theodocia McLean, endorse Warlord of the Forgotten Age (Legends of Windemere Book 15) by Charles E. Yallowitz. I purchased this book from Kindle. This review was completed on March 12, 2018.

Silently In The Night by Clayton Graham

Silently In The Night by Clayton Graham
For those of us who enjoyed The Twilight Zone, Silently in the Night by Clayton Graham is just as thrilling. This book is a collection of tales where ordinary men and women are confronted with the unexpected.

I love each story and will return to read them again. One story titled Watering Down, sticks out in my mind. It centers on the calicivirus, which can cause upper respiratory infections and oral disease in cats. Probably because I am a cat lover, or because I have memories of the Dustin Hoffman 1995 film titled Outbreak, Watering Down made such an interesting and unexpected tale.

I suspect, everyone who reads Silently in the Night will come away with one or more favorites. If you enjoy science fiction and mysteries that make your heart stands still when aliens, artificial intelligence, death, the unexplained or unexpected interact with your reality; Silently in the Night should be top of your reading list.

I am fortunate to have read Author Clayton Graham’s science fiction debut novel titled Milijun. When aliens kidnap Laura’s child, it’s going to take a lot more than a mother’s love to get him back.

I am looking forward to his upcoming release of Saving Paludis where “Nobody thought Paludis would become a battlefield, nor Earth for that matter, but in the darkest of times a glimmer of light can shine, resolute spirits can triumph over brutality and the strangest of strangers can become friends.”

I, Theodocia McLean, endorse and encourage you to read Silently in the Night by Clayton Graham. I purchased this book from Kindle. This review was completed on February 7, 2018.

Circumstances Of Childhood by John W. Howell

Circumstances Of Childhood by John W. Howell
Lifelong friends, more like brothers, give us a glimpse into the circumstances of childhood.

Athletes’ especially pro football players have a professional drive that carries them through life. This is a story of two such men, their boyhood dreams and reality as life unfolds. When one become famous, and under scrutiny in the public, the negatives are just as pronounced as the successes, maybe more.

It is Greg’s childhood pal Keith, who narrates this story, because Greg is not in the position to tell us himself. The hardest part is not always the beginning. Sometimes circumstances are not always what they seem. The question is, how does one prove their innocence when the Justice Department concludes that there is fraud, money laundering and insider trading within the Wall Street firm that Greg built from scratch? It is the same firm in which he invested his life and his family’s dreams.
Let’s me back up and invite you to join read this excerpt:

The game went pretty much as expected.  Greg proved spectacular and led the team to a two-touchdown victory over Alabama. The victory celebration and the press conference took the time to well past ten o’clock at night. Greg met up with Terry and his parents at the motel. They took a quiet booth in the restaurant. Not the best place, but at least relatively private. A few fans passed through and spotted Greg and asked for autographs. He graciously signed what the folks gave him, and they chatted a little and moved on.
Ned spoke up when they sat alone, “So, what did it feel like to win?”
“I’ll tell you, Dad, it was an interesting experience. From the first minute on the field, I knew we would win. It felt like a vision but so real.”
“You played an exceptionally controlled game. The announcers said you stayed so calm and collected.”
“Yes.” Marie nodded. “They even said you looked like a pro quarterback.”
“You guys are making me blush, but you can keep it up.”
They all laughed. Ned then asked if Greg planned to enter the NFL draft. Greg surprised them all by letting them know he hadn’t made up his mind. He turned and looked at Terry and said, “I have a few considerations, and I think that Terry and I need to talk out some things beforehand.”

The decisions Greg makes will play out in hopes and dreams, happy times, romance and struggles. His professional drive will see him through it all. His friend Keith however, has encountered something paranormal that shakes Greg to his core.

I enjoyed reading this book. After you read this book, I encourage you to read My GRL (John Cannon Trilogy Book One), His Revenge (John Cannon Trilogy Book Two), and Our Justice (John Cannon Trilogy Book Three) by John W. Howell.

I, Theodocia McLean, endorse Circumstances of Childhood by John W. Howell. I purchased this book from Kindle. This review was completed on March 5, 2018.

Twisted Threads (Threads Series Book Four) by Kaylin McFarren

Twisted Threads (Threads Series Book Four) by Kaylin McFarren
For all of us following the Threads Series by Kaylin McFarren, Twisted Threads does not disappoint. When we left off with book three, we were wondering if the ‘Watcher’ would ever deliver justice.

This drama opens with Akira Sato contemplating a “justified killing” and she is lost in the consequences, forced to move forward. Devon Lyons laments over his recent demotion and the emotional sting of a forced Caribbean vacation to please his Uncle. Devon’s mind and attention soon shifts when Akira calls him “Sexy”. Women have called him “clever”, “lovable” and “incredibly handsome” but “sexy” has just caught him off guard. With more than romance in the air the voyage brings mystery, suspense and a complex drama with threads so twisted you will keep turning the page.

Here is an excerpt I think you will like: “Akira took the elevator across from the theater, dazed from the four glasses of wine and shot of vodka she had consumed. A few seconds passed, and the doors opened before her. She stepped out into the empty hallway and couldn’t figure out which direction she was facing, let alone which way to proceed. She looked down and realized the carpeting under her feet had red and blue medallions—not the gold and blue diamonds she’d become familiar with seeing. After making numerous trips to various restaurants, she realized she had gotten off on the right floor but on the wrong end of the ship. The enormous staircase on her right led to the upper and lower levels, which should have made it easy to find her way back to her room.

However, her explorations on the ship had proved that not every floor had immediate access to the passenger levels; many were blocked by restaurants, lounges, and shops.

Akira decided it was best to start over—to backtrack the way she had come. She pushed the elevator button and waited for what seemed like an eternity. Then a slight sway in the ship’s motion caused her stomach to lurch. She needed fresh air to avoid further humiliation. A glass exit door stood waiting a short distance away. She slid it open and stepped outside. Oddly, all of the overhead lights above the walkway were out. It was impossible to see more than ten feet in any given direction. She gripped the safety railing and gazed up at the sky, drawing long, deep breaths. A sudden breeze whipped at her hair, tugging tendrils loose from her pinned-up hairdo. She wrapped her arms around herself, warding off the chill, and was about to return inside when she heard the sound of a voice.”

Jump right in and start peeling off the layers of this Twisted Plot, that will be worth the read and will leave you wanting more.

I, Theodocia McLean, endorse multi-award-winning author Kaylin McFarren’s Threads Series which include Banished Threads, Buried Threads, Severed Threads and now Twisted Threads. I purchased this book from Kindle. This review was completed on January 6, 2018.

Into Winter: The Armed Invasion (The Four Seasons Book 3) by Larry Landgraf

Into Winter: The Armed Invasion (The Four Seasons Book 3) by Larry Landgraf
Let me quickly recap The Four Seasons series books One and Two before jumping into book three titled Into Winter: The Armed Invasion (The Four Seasons Book 3) by Larry Landgraf.

Book One (Into Autumn by Larry Landgraf) takes one of modern man’s worst fears and makes it a reality when the grid fails leaving people to survive by any and all means possible. Communities like Peaceful Valley spring up, but not without advantages and disadvantages to belong.

Book Two (Into Spring-The Next Generation by Larry Landgraf) finds two young adults from Peaceful Valley striking out on their own to find wives. Arriving in Corpus Christi, they find a society ruled by a ruthless dictator named Sandra Hawkins. Survival takes on a different form than Sean and Robbie had known in Peaceful Valley and escape might be out of their reach.

Book Three (Into Winter: The Armed Invasion by Larry Landgraf) brings us to a point in the story where Robbie and two female allies (Florence Ingalls and Beka Livingston) are trying to escape in a Cessna Skyhawk at the Airport. This is a dangerous proposition. Back in Peaceful Valley, the community is gearing up for a standoff against Sandra Hawkins's army which they learn may be heading their way. Their only defense might be offense with some old equipment as John states “I know a little about electronics”. Will they be able to save their small community from this tyrant and if they do, what lies ahead?

Author Larry Landgraf weaves a believable tale that takes his characters into survival mode that toys with the reader’s imagination and the ‘what ifs’. Like what if our grid was to fail? What if democracy was no more? Each character plays his and her part well and the story flows quickly from one page to the next. I encourage you to read each book in this epic series in order. Author Larry Landgraf wrote book two and three as stand-alone novels to help those who come late to the series. Now we wait for his promised conclusion titled Into Summer: Dawn Of A New Age.

I, Theodocia McLean, endorse Into Winter: The Armed Invasion (The Four Seasons Book 3) by Larry Landgraf. I purchased this book from Kindle. This review was completed on January 12, 2018.
