Good News! My Paperbacks are coming to Amazon in Canada

The baffling exclusion of Canada from distribution through Amazon by Createspace is coming to an end. I just received an email that my paperback books that are sold through Amazon in the US, UK, Germany, Italy, France, and Spain will now be available to Canadian book readers at Amazon.ca.

It might take as long as 30 days for the paperback listings to appear, but I just checked and some of my novels are appearing in print at the Canadian Amazon store.

The first two books of the Werewolves in the Renaissance series are there.

The folklore beliefs of the 16th century Renaissance come wildly to life in the werewolf hero Thal. The first book I wrote in Michigan

As a novelist deeply inspired by the natural world, the places I have lived contribute to the foundation of my writing. I grew up in Michigan and now live here again after 14 years in Nevada and California.

After publishing 10 fantasy novels over the years, I got to thinking about where I lived when writing them. Four of them were authored while I lived in Michigan.

The first one was New Religion. I began writing this third part of the Rys Rising series in 2009, the year I moved back to my home state after my sojourn. Moving across the country with a young family was a terribly stressful situation. Moving is always a pain in the ass, but add preschoolers, a house on the market in California in the midst of a real estate collapse, and unreliable internet access to the mix, and I was having above-average mental health issues.

As usual, writing was my best solace. After much turbulence, I set aside time each day to write New Religion. This novel was at the heart of my epic tragedy, the Rys Rising series. Considering the dark, violent, and desperate action that drives this novel, writing it immediately made me feel like I was back on track, at least for those hours when its necessary composition gripped me.

Taking time to do something that gives you creative release and lets you achieve a mental state of flow is priceless. Whatever that activity is for you, I suggest you take time for it. And if you don't know what it is, start trying new things.

How to Find the Books from Google

It's easy to read ebooks from the Play Store. It's not just apps, games, and videos. If you've got a tablet, phone, laptop, or even a desktop computer, you can access the play store. There's even a store app for iPad or iPhone. Your Android device likely has an icon on the home screen that takes you right there. Then you just select the books area. You'll find tons of titles from publishing companies and indie authors like me.

Many Free Ebooks at the Play Store

Usually any fiction category at Google Play Books will have many free ebooks to offer. If you go to the Top Charts area, there will be a top free ebooks section. You'll find mostly classic novels here, but if you dig deeper into the categories, you'll start to see free titles mixed in with paid titles. On my desktop version of the Play Store, once I get into a category, there's a menu filter at the top that will let me sort by free or paid. You can access many categories via the "Additional Information" area on the page for any particular book. Perhaps you could click on a book you've already enjoyed and then start exploring its categories to find other titles you might like.

Because Google allows content producers to price ebooks at free, you'll be able to find a good supply of free reading at the Play Store. Sometimes these freebies are quite good and will tempt you to buy more titles by the author. It's how many of my fans discovered me.

So, if you try Union of Renegades for free and get hooked, remember there is a value bundle for the whole series now. Epic fantasy readers should definitely try my fiction. I'm a lover of the genre and have spent most of my adult life writing within in it.

I'm very pleased to announce the publication of The Rys Chronicles complete series box set. Today I had the privilege of being interviewed by Annette Rochelle Aben from The Magic Happens. Our conversation was recorded live on the Tell Me a Story podcast. We spoke about my historical fiction and why people like scary, dark fantasy stories.

I related my adventure in Great Basin National Park when I toured Lehman Caves. That inspiring experience finally emerged in my latest novel Journey of the Hunted: Werewolves in the Renaissance 2 when a group of characters had to hide in a cave from a werewolf and an undying fext.

Excerpt from the novel:



With every step deeper into the mountain she became very aware of each breath as if air would cease to be available. The immensity of the mountain all around her bore down on her spirit. Her awareness of her miniscule body within the vastness of the world provoked anxieties. She imagined the cave collapsing and trapping her, never to see the sky again. To die in the hideous hard dark stoked her terror. The memory of the closing door of the iron maiden bit into her, and she struggled against her paralyzing thoughts. Her hand was on her chest when she caught up to the musicians. They were only dim shuffling figures following the single light with plodding desperation. When Altea gasped, Carlo looked back. “We’ll make it through,” he encouraged.She felt herself nod and tried to take a deep breath, but the fear constricting her body resisted the effort. The world of the surface was utterly foreign to this hard slumbering interior. The darkness was beyond any night with eyes shut tight. Hammerlith’s meager lantern slipped through the black everything like a spider in the house of giants. Altea put a hand on Carlo’s back because she needed the connection. He surely understood when her fingers clasped his shirt.They reached a door of metal bars. Hammerlith unlocked it and led them through and then locked it behind them. They were secure in his mine, and Altea tried not to think of it as locked inside.
