Lights, Camera, Action!

Wayne and I will be visiting the movie set tomorrow for the Cedar Cove pilot.  My goodness, just writing those words gives me a thrill.  The movie set.

"Sorry, darlin'. I must rush; I'm needed on the set."

I don't know that I'm so much needed, but I'm not about to let the opportunity pass me by.  And Wayne, being Wayne, isn't about to let the opportunity to meet Andie McDowell pass him by either.  I'll be sure to take lots of photos.

Embarrassing moment

It was one of those embarrassing life moments.  Wayne and I were with friends, who are pool walking with us.  I was late coming from the office, so I hurried to change into my swimsuit and get into the water.  Wayne had brought Bogie along and Bogie followed me into my dressing room.  Eager to get in the water, I rushed out--only to have Bogie follow me--bringing my underwear with him, which he proceeded to shake and kill in full sight of everyone in the pool!  Oh yes, God has ways of keeping me humble!

A Real Life Angel

I had one of those knot-in-the-pit-of-my-stomach moments last Sunday.  Wayne and I flew from Florida to Washington state, changing planes in Atlanta.  We made our connection just fine and boarded the plane for Seattle.  When I reached for my knitting . . . it wasn't there.  I'd left it on the plane from the first half of our trip.  This is a project I've been working on for weeks, a Christmas gift, and I was more than half finished.  It was too late to retrieve it.

I was able to find out it had been handed over to Lost & Found.  I literally had tears in my eyes, because there was no guarantee I would ever see that project again.  But, thankfully, I met an angel, a Delta flight attendant named Beatrice Mullins, who took the time on Monday afternoon to collect my knitting and mail it to me.  There are some really wonderful people in this world and I had the honor of meeting one of them.

Cedar Cove Movie

This is a red letter day.  The production for the Cedar Cove movie starts this morning.  It's being filmed in Victoria, B.C.  Cast as Olivia is Andie McDowell, and other casting announcements will follow.  I remember the days when I pleaded with God to let me publish one book.  Just one.  I didn't want to be greedy.   Now there is a pilot to a television series to celebrate.  Wow!  Is this exciting or what?

Beauty

I’m taking a day for beauty. And trust me; it takes all day. First I’ve got a hair appointment, followed by a nail appointment. Usually I spread out these appointments, but I’m flying into NY on Sunday for a big book trade show and want to look somewhat close to my publicity photo, which is getting more and more difficult. The only problem is that I can never do my hair the way the stylist does, so in order to preserve the look I sleep with a pillow under my neck and my head dangling off the side of the mattress.  Oh the things we do for beauty!

Gardening with the Grandkids

Wayne and I had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend.  The weather in Port Orchard was perfect, and I used the opportunity to have the grandkids over to plant our garden.  We got a bit carried away when it came to purchasing seedlings, but they all found their way into the ground. We planted cauliflower, cabbage, four varieties of tomatoes, carrots, squash, beets and several more veggies that I have since forgotten. Each of the grandkids has his or her own section.  And what was Wayne doing while the kids and I were sweating under the hot sun?  My husband never has been one to waste an opportunity to take a nap!

Of deer, grandkids and flowers

Wayne and I flew into Seattle last night for Memorial Day weekend with our family.  The timing is perfect as I'll be planting my special grandchildren’s garden with said grandchildren.  Although last year the deer—beautiful but pesky creatures that they are—ate more of the crop than we did!  Plus, it’s time to get my herbs into the pots situated just off the patio.  I don't have anything close to the green thumb my mother did, but I do so love having a garden.  We're flying back to Florida on Tuesday, and then we’ll pack up the house for the summer months.  It's transition time.

Florida, the land of . . .

I’ve mentioned before how Wayne and I have been exercising in the pool.  We chat, listen to music, and dance in the water.  It’s great fun and has quickly become addictive.  This morning, though, I ran into a slight problem.

Florida is the land of sandy beaches, glorious sunshine, palm trees, geckos . . . and snakes.  Yes, a snake had made its way into our pool! Okay, so it was lying motionless at the bottom of the pool, obviously dead. Still, no way was I getting into the water with a snake—dead or alive.  So my fearless husband dutifully removed it for me, setting it on the ground close to where I was standing . . . only the snake wasn’t dead!  It was alive and headed straight for me.  I’m here to tell you, my friends, this woman can jump!

Love of Adventure

Wayne and I were in the Florida Keys this weekend, off to visit Wayne’s cousin, Steve Scott.  Steve is a pilot for American Airlines.  The love of planes and adventure is clearly something in their blood.  (Wayne, too, has flown—at one time he had a license—I don’t recall the official kind of license, but it was for small, personal craft).  I decided long ago that being a pilot wasn’t on my bucket list, but I did accompany Wayne on several flights when he flew.  The most adventure I’m looking for now is a tricky knitting pattern.

During our drive to the Keys we listened to a non-fiction book on American history, and I knit away, content as could be.  A relaxing weekend for us both with family tossed in for a little fun.

Hope yours was just a great!

Baptism by . . .

Yesterday Wayne and I rode our bike to the clubhouse for lunch.  I wore my new bike helmet (which cost one-third the price of the bike!), slung my purse over my shoulder, and off we went, free as two lovebirds. The wind wasn’t so bad this time. Because we were hot and sweaty when we arrived, we decided to eat indoors in the air conditioned room to cool off.

Unfortunately, we weren’t all that had cooled off.  So had the weather.  We looked up at the sky with darkening clouds and started for home, peddling for all we were worth, keeping a look out for the gathering thunder clouds.  We had miles to go . . . (okay, two miles) when it started.  Yup, Florida has really strong winds, but it has something else I failed to take into consideration.  Rain.  Lots and lots of pelting rain.  I consider myself baptized.
