Horses (measured by hands)

(JUXTAPOSE: mid 19th century: from French juxtaposer, from Latin juxta ‘next’ + French poser ‘to place.’)

Okay, I’ll be the grouch: while I’m excited that some of John Wieners’ work is newly available in the new selected from Wave Books, I can’t fathom how a team of three editors couldn’t even muster an intro or any apparatus for context, and I’m not sure why it wasn’t just a collected or a facsimile edition of the entirety of CINCINNATI PIKE. In mild protest, posting a few pages of one of my favorites that got left out. From his CONJUGAL CONTRARIES & QUART (Hanuman Books, 1987).

WRESTLING W/ HERSELF WRESTLING W/ OTHERS:

The first is Frances Boldereff’s reaction to a poem Charles Olson sent to/for her

The second is CO

3rd 4th & 5th are from Frances Boldereff’s (as Frances Phipps) Let Me Be Los (a codebook for Finnigan’s Wake)

In my less ‘sacred’ moods, I am coming to think of Frances Boldereff as the woman who knocked up Olson (which, actually, based on their letters to each other, am sure they would (privately) agree with). Let’s let it go at that.

The New [New] Corpse

The New [New] Corpse: image

Julia and I both contributed to this (my poem LAND is in here, as well as an excerpt from Julia’s IMAGINARY ESSAYS). Caroline Picard did an amazing job with this catalog. Seriously, it’s like the fanciest book we’ve ever appeared in… Some great company, too: Nathanaël, Judith Goldman, CP, etc. etc.
