The Good News & The Bad News
Small press schedules are unpredictable. They are rarely on schedule with anything. Most of the time they're behind because the editors and production staff have day jobs.
I'm in a different kind of small press scheduling pickle, however. This time, my publisher is ahead of schedule. My novel that was originally scheduled for a December 2010 release was moved forward to November, then October, now we're looking at September for the paperbacks and a week or two (from now) for the Kindle edition...

Final Proofs
Getting cold feet about putting this baby out there just because after looking at a manuscript for months and having gone over it 100 times or more, it's lost its shiny new lustre. It no longer has that new manuscript smell. That is one of the banes of being a writer. Your stories will be great the first 50 times you read them. The next 50 times - eh. They're o.k. Of course the beta-test went over really well. Then again, those people are biased. LOL!
My editor is biased, too. Luckily all the...

Publishing News
Earlier today, Publisher's Weekly announced that one of the major traditional publishers, Dorchester, has announced they're going to an exclusively eBook and Print on Demand (for popular titles) format. This has some really interesting implications to traditional publishing in general.
J.A. Konrath made some really great points about how the distribution models have changed with the new technology.

Lemons
A few lemons I've read in the past month:

She Tells All
by Judah Lee Davis (indie book): This is a coming of age story about a young southern girl who loses her mother when she's 17. Then she goes through a sexual awakening. Okay - so there were parts of the story that were funnier than hell (I did laugh out loud), but like so many self-published books you can immediately tell why it was self-published. The writer uses a very passive voice and clearly hasn't done a great deal of reading, other...

Childhood Trauma-O-Rama
My 20-Year HS Reunion was this past weekend. I didn't go. But it is the event that sparked this post.
With the advent of social networking sites like Facebook, more and more people look up and reconnect with their childhood friends. It's really amazing how the people of that time frame seem to effect us. It's also interesting how nostalgic people are to reconnect.
I have reconnected with about twelve people from my gradeschool through high school years. A few I've really enjoyed spending some t...

Masters of the Shadowlands Series
I am currently reading Cherise Sinclair's Masters of the Shadowlands series. It's a wonderful bdsm series featuring full figured heroines!
Not only is this well written erotica, but it's also romantic fiction. I'm thoroughly enjoying the trip through Club Shadowlands and the various stories (even though I want MORE). Each book features a different Dom/Sub couple and how they meet and fall in love. Okay - so perhaps they are a bit formulaic. But they're fun to read and Sinclair is a master at ...

Patience - Yeah Right!
I will be the first to admit that patience is not my strong suit. I am, perhaps, one of the most impatient people I know.
So here I am, on the cusp of the publication of my third novel and I'm feeling my patience slipping away into oblivion. In 5 days, the manuscript goes to proof. What has surprised me is that I'm already on the next novel. I had no idea writing a story like this would catapult into the next and so on. My first series of books was just so planned and thought through. I'm sti...

Book Review: The Dom's Dungeon
For those of you who know me, remember that scene that just kind of wrote itself in Into Darkness? Yeah - the BDSM club scene? That's the one. Now mind you my books are not erotica, but they can be rated R, and the reason I chose a BDSM scene was because - well, it just kind of happened right in the middle of my mystery novel and became an integral part of the plot. Believe it or not I really have no experience with that particular scene if you know what I mean. So I decided to do a little r...

Kindle
Okay, I think it's only fair that I finally review the Kindle. I think I made a brief mention of it in another post and never really went back to that.
Let me first give you some background information. I used to be anti e-book. I couldn't stand reading on a computer screen. (Still can't!) It hurts my eyes. Then, a girlfriend had a romance novel published (that would be Bernadette Marie - I'm blaming this on her, lol!). I wanted to read it badly but the paperbacks weren't available yet. So I ...

Authors I'm Currently In Love With...
There are a few authors whose books have been keeping my book lust in check recently. I'd like to give them a shout out just because their work is so much fun. Those of you who enjoy chick lit, paranormal fiction, and even a little erotica (the last author only) - then this list is for you.
I'm really loving Victoria Laurie's Psychic Eye Mystery Series. Her Ghost Hunter Mysteries is a great deal of fun, too.
