I am so happy and humbled to announce that I’ve been accepted for the Lambda Literary Writer’s Retreat for Emerging LGBTQ Voices!Lambda Literary is a renowned organization that believes Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer literature is fundamental to the preservation of our culture, and that LGBTQ lives are affirmed when our stories are written, published and read.
As an avid book reading teenager, I was hard-pressed to find any characters of color as the main protagonists in the fan...

“Five Stars...An absolutely gorgeous story full of humanity and heart.” —Prism Book Alliance
Every so often a book comes along that doesn’t just captivate me. It embraces me and envelops me and then refuses to let me go even after the final page is read. Small Wonders, an absolutely gorgeous story full of humanity and heart, is one such book.
This little gem of a debut novel makes a huge impact. Courtney Lux’s tale of a lonely, frightened teenager escaping from a hick town in Alabama to become a busker and sometimes pickpocket in the Big Apple is poignant, heart breaki...

HEY ASIAN-IDENTIFYING CANADIANS!
Project 40, the arts collective I’ve been working with, is accepting submissions for their second magazine! The deadline is March 31, 2016.
Here’s a little bit about LooseLeaf magazine, taken directly from their site:

Write every single day.
It’s one of the most common pieces of writing advice and it’s wildly off base. I get it: The idea is to stay on your grind no matter what, don’t get discouraged, don’t slow down even when the muse isn’t cooperating and non-writing life tugs at your sleeve. In this convoluted, simplified version of the truly complex nature of creativity, missing a day is tantamount to giving up, the gateway drug to joining the masses of non-writing slouches.
Nonsense.
Here’s what st...

For a few days, this is what almost all of my scripts look like. The most daunting thing for me to see is a blank page, so I always make sure there’s SOMETHING on there as soon as possible, even if it’s as simple as “CHARACTER: [First line]. ADDITIONAL CHARACTER: [Second line].“ This chunk has a clear little skeleton to it, but some scripts are even more bare bones (MICHAEL: [Banter]; KATIE: [Aggravated Response]; SOREN: [Distracted non sequitur] DANIEL: [Sweats, F...

Constance Wu: 'Diversity...doesn’t Mean We Want the White People to Write Asian Stories'
“[Diversity] doesn’t mean we want the white people to write Asian stories. What I want is to foster the Asian-American writers and directors and producers and actors…foster their stories to come into the spotlight a little bit.”
This explanation for the term“diversity” is very important. Please pay attention.
