A Key Term from Chapter One
Graphene:
pure carbon in the form of a very thin, nearly transparent sheet, one atom thick.Graphene is remarkably strong for its very low weight (about 100 times stronger than steel<2>) and it conducts heat and electricity with great efficiency.<3> While scientists had theorized about graphene for decades, it was first produced in the lab in 2003.<4> Because it is virtually two-dimensional, it interacts oddly with light and with other materials. Researchers have identified the bipolar transistor effect, ballistic transport of charges and large quantum oscillations. (Wikipedia)

My favorite quotes from Chapter One
“Certainty is the enemy of knowledge.”
-Agapito
“He with the most sensors wins.”
“There are three paths to that kind of face: too much alcohol, too many drugs, or too many failed start-ups. SteveR had two out of three. Maybe all three.”
“This new stuff. Passes through matter. Swirls like Van Gogh’s starry night. Strange. Unnatural. Like nothing. Like nothing you’ve ever seen.” - SteveR
“Roy, I could see the energy in my hand. Blood vessels pumping. Nerve synapses firing. Closest thing to a religious experience, that I could imagine. My world seemed trivial.” - SteveR
“Dietz stepped back, when the smoke appeared. Too late. The asphalt under his feet. It melted in a flash. He never had a chance. The smell of burning fat. Asphalt. Who knows what else. It overwhelmed us.” - SteveR
“Atomic energy may just be the beginning.” - Roy Swenson
