Flash Fiction # 417 -- Lost in Elsewhere/27 (END)
Darman lost control as he yowled in pain. Edmond darted away and took a running leap back into the air and out of Darman's reach. The fae was far beyond reasoning now, and it didn't help that the flying monkeys pelted him with more apples. We still didn't have the upper hand. Momba tried a direct attack, and he waved her away so that she flew backward. I didn't see where she landed, but her

Flash Fiction # 416 -- Lost in Elsewhere/26
Staring up at the sky, I had two distinct thoughts.Help has arrived!Hell -- help is a flying cat and monkeys. The screams had gotten Darman's attention. I probably should have leapt for him, magic sword and all, but the wolves were starting to make ominous noises. Lord Snow had his ears back and had crouched down and prepared to leap.Edmond and his companions had their own idea of what to do.

Flash Fiction #415 -- Lost in Elsewhere/25
I looked up into the sky. No flying monkeys that I could spot. Momba gave a yell of warning, and Lord Snow had already leapt forward and slashed one wolf across the face."Fly, Edmond!" I ordered. "Get out --""I can help!""Yes! Fly through and find us help!""Oh!"He took off from my shoulder, a sudden push that almost put me off balance this time. I had one wolf nearly to me, though, and I

Flash Fiction # 414 -- Lost in Elsewhere/24
So, there I was in Oz, dealing with the Wicked Witch of the West. Better her than Glinda, who was a bit over the rainbow -- and I wasn't Dorothy. Apparently, she only dealt well with pretty girls and yappy dogs.I had two cats. I had the feeling Glinda wasn't a cat person.I wasn't convinced when the Wicked Witch of the West said she would help us get home. My knowledge of Momba was limited to

I never thought someone being good could be such a pain in the ass.She leaned forward, her wand glittering, her white dress immaculate. "Why, you aren't Dorothy and Toto!""Get a clue, Glinda. Not everyone who drops in is your precious little Dorothy.""You are so jealous of my fame, Momba. But I forgive you. Do get your pets in hand, though. You know I just will not tolerate them clinging to

The Anniversary Trip
(And now for a short break from Flash Fiction)You really don't want to know about my trip to the Loess Bluffs National Wildlife Refuge -- but I am going to tell it to you anyway. It is a 193-mile trip to the refuge which is just across the Missouri border. We left at a little after three in the morning so we would arrive at dawn. It worked, too! We arrived at 5:58 am and started a nice,

The flying monkeys were uglier than I expected them to be -- and I like monkeys. Long, scraggly fur hung all over them except for their scrunched-up leathery faces. The coat was brown to black, the faces a molted brown, and they're large wings black.Their eyes were nearly white and cat-like."What the hell are these?" Edmond demanded and ran toward me as though he had forgotten he could fly."The

Flash Fiction # 411-- Lost in Elsewhere/21
We dropped down through the tunnel, but not so far this time, and we did not appear in the Queen's reception -- that was an improvement. However, what I saw before us was not the place that I had imagined it would be. Instead of the majestic beauty of the most famous of all Elven cities, I saw something rather vague, and the shapes seemed to shift as I watched."That's not right," I said with a

Flash Fiction #410 -- Lost in Elsewhere/20
If you were going to drop into the worst spot in Alice's Wonderland, where would it be?Let's just say the Queen of Hearts was not happy to have us literally drop into her reception. I landed first and rolled. Edmond sailed over the top of me, and Lord Snow made an odd huffing sound as he hit the ground -- but he was on his feet faster than me.People, and other things, were gathered around in

Flash Fiction #409 -- Lost in Elsewhere/19
I felt better after we ate, and slept for a couple hours, though not well. I had nightmares -- what a shock. I couldn't help but feel like everything kept getting worse.I had no idea what to do. I didn't say so aloud. We soon walked back through the Iceling city and back out into a winter storm. I wore the sword at my side, wrapped in several layers of cloth with only the hilt showing. I
