Organizational Structure

These criticisms highlight the challenges and drawbacks of hierarchical systems, prompting discussions on alternative organizational structures that promote equality, flexibility, and collaboration.

Modern digital organizations are not just the sum of functional pieces, but an integral whole. To run a highly effective organization, the organizational hierarchy must balance fluidity, freedom, and responsibilities of the subsystems (functions) and the total system, to enable information fluidity, workforce creativity, and management holism. 
In reality, many organizations that get stuck at the lower level of maturity usually have large frictions, or even change inertia due to inflexibility of organization structure, and bureaucratic management ineffectiveness. 


Negative sides of Hierarchy: Human hierarchies, while often works fine to a certain degree for organization and management, have several negative aspects that have been increasingly criticized, especially in the early 21st century.


-Lack of Autonomy: Individuals lower in the hierarchy may experience a lack of autonomy and control over their work or environment. This can lead to dissatisfaction, decreased motivation, and a sense of powerlessness.


-Resistance to Change: Hierarchical structures can be rigid, making them resistant to change. This can stifle innovation and adaptability, as decisions often need to pass through multiple levels of approval.

Ethical systems often emphasize other-regarding values, which foster close human relationships, mutual respect, and trust. Acting ethically can be seen as rational for self-interested individuals, as it promotes long-term self-interest through reciprocal moral behavior.
