Is James Damore really in trouble over a masturbation joke?
Christopher DeGroot writes:
The former chess prodigy is now blacklisted from the big tech companies, despite having, in the language of the corporate rabble, a proven track record of success as a software engineer. In the Guardian article from which I have quoted, we learn that Damore was diagnosed with a mild form of autism in his mid-20s. Paul Lewis, the liberal author of this subtle hatchet job, based—where else—in San Francisco, describes Damore’s first failure to submit to the diversity idol:
“Damore was on a two-day retreat for [Harvard] PhD students, which involved an annual tradition of inviting students to perform skits that lightly poked fun at professors. Damore’s performance included an awkwardly delivered masturbation joke that offended some female students. Two professors later wrote to students apologising for the “uneasiness, embarrassment or offense” he had caused. Damore still finds it hard to see why his skit was objectionable, but accepts he may view it differently, “because I’m on the spectrum.””

Women tend to be too impressed by the men on screen and too hell-bent to get themselves on screen.
In one of Philip Roth’s lesser novels, The Dying Animal, the narrator is a 62-year-old college professor who seduces one of his undergraduate students every semester and then discards her for a new one the following semester. How does the old dog do it? He moonlights on the local PBS channel as an arts expert for a few minutes per week. This might not seem like much fame, but for a 19-year-old coed, Roth’s narrator explains, “They are helplessly drawn to celebrity, however inconsiderable mine may be.”

Damon Root: When the punk rock thought police ruled the scene
Damon Root writes:
The freakout over Agnostic Front’s politically incorrect punk came to a head when Miret, Stigma, and bassist Rob Kabula agreed to be interviewed for Maximum Rocknroll’s January 1985 issue by punker Dave Scott.
Scott sent his questions by mail and the band sent back their answers. But Yohannan thought the interview was too friendly, so he mailed a batch of his own questions, focusing on the “disturbing aspects to these nice guys’ philosophies” and “their admittedly nationalistic outlook.” Miret, Stigma, and Kabula replied again.
Yohannan then edited the whole correspondence together, littering the Q&A with a final round of his own commentary. He literally gave himself the last word on his most contentious exchanges with the band.
It was an ugly and heavy-handed piece of work. Yohannan had revealed his own intellectual insecurities by doing everything in his power to stack the deck in his favor. He clearly did not trust his subscribers to read the original interviews and then make up their own minds. Even left-wing punks were embarrassed by the performance.

“Behind every word of Amis’s corpus, Wilde lurks…”
Look again at Amis on Burroughs – at his “weary instancing” of King Lear as a reproof to those who imagine that a work of art can be depressing. This is Wilde, in “The Soul of Man Under Socialism” (1891): “To call an artist morbid because he deals with morbidity as his subject-matter is as silly as if one called Shakespeare mad because he wrote King Lear.” Similarly, when he writes, “Only in art will the lion lie down with the lamb, and the rose grow without thorn” (Koba the Dread, 2002), it is a contemporary edition of Wilde’s “It is through Art, and Art only, that we can realise our perfection” (“The Critic as Artist”). Further examples proliferate…

David Cole writes:
Two weeks ago, feminist TV producer Jill Soloway (of Amazon’s tranny comedy Transparent) cheered the downfall of dick-dangling funnyman Louis C.K., whom Soloway had previously criticized for being “transphobic.” Much to Soloway’s delight, C.K. lost his TV show. Barely a day later, Soloway found her own show in jeopardy after a tranny accused Transparent star Jeffrey Tambor of sexual misconduct. In another instance of unscripted comedy, within hours of concluding his interrogation of U.S. Senate candidate Roy “Short Eyes” Moore over claims of sexual harassment and assault, bad comedian and worse senator Al Franken found himself smack-dab in the middle of his own sexual-harassment and assault scandal.
Actor Richard Dreyfuss praised his son for coming forward about having been groped by Kevin Spacey, only to himself be accused of indecent exposure by his former personal assistant. Unlanced boil Lena Dunham proudly proclaimed that women never lie about rape, only to immediately accuse a woman of lying about rape when the target of the accusation was Dunham’s close friend.
This is comedy at its finest.

Steve Sailer: Different Hoax for Different Folks — Lt. Gen. Silveria and the ADL
Steve Sailer writes:
The only problem with the ADL’s ceremony honoring Lt. Gen. Silveria’s “commitment, dedication, and leadership in the fight against hate” was that six days earlier the Air Force Academy had admitted that the graffiti had been a hoax perpetrated by an unnamed black student. (…)
Last winter, for example, the ADL had been doing well off blaming the sudden spate of threats against Jewish community centers upon Trump.
But then it turned out that eight of the calls had been made by a black leftist journalist named Juan Thompson. And next it emerged that up to 2,000 threats were the work of an energetic young Jewish man in Israel with dual Israeli-American citizenship, Michael Ron David Kadar.

David Cole: “Gentrification today, gentrification tomorrow, gentrification forever”
David Cole writes:
Signs were posted around the city depicting a white hipster’s head in the crosshairs of a rifle. And through it all, at no point did the activists make any attempt to hide the racial nature of their cleansing campaign: “No white people. No white stores.” It’s almost funny reading the reactions of some of the gallery and coffee-shop owners. “But we’re progressive whites! We’re the good guys! We resist Trump!”
They don’t get, or refuse to get, that it’s about race, not politics.

Jim Goad: Where Are All the Tranny Dudes In Politics?
Jim Goad writes:
Eight trannies elected to office in one night? That’s good. Only two of them now identify as men? That’s bad—especially if one wants to pretend that gender is fluid. If one even dares to notice a firm statistical pattern that the roaring majority of trannies are men who claim they’re women, one risks subverting the entire Tranny Gospel. If, as the case seems to be nearly everywhere worldwide, the overwhelming majority of people who desire to change their sex are men who seek refuge in womanhood, this might suggest that our current cultural climate offers very few perks for men and plenty for women.
Jeepers, if only I’d gone to college AND studied statistics!

The Timothy Leary of Antifa: I was going to mock Professor Mark Brey’s dumb comments about free speech and Weimar…
…in that semi-viral Chronicle of Higher Education profile…
In fact, there’s a point Mr. Bray made in an interview that Mr. Scott often finds himself citing. “We don’t look back at the Weimar Republic today and celebrate them for allowing Nazis to have their free-speech rights,” he says. “We look back and say, Why didn’t they do something?”
by quoting Mark Steyn extensively.
But Steyn beat me to it, thank God.
Now I can just read and savour instead:
It is a testament to the wholesale moronization of our culture that there are gazillions of apparently sane people willing to take out six figures of debt they’ll be paying off for decades for the privilege of being “taught” by the likes of Professor Bray. The reason “we don’t look back at the Weimar Republic today and celebrate them for allowing Nazis to have their free-speech rights” is because they didn’t. A decade ago, as my battles with Canada’s “human rights” commissions were beginning, I lost count of the number of bien-pensants insisting that, while in theory we could permit hatemongers like Steyn to exercise their free-speech rights, next thing you know it would be jackboots on the 401. (…)
“That analysis sounds as if it ought to be right,” I replied. “But the problem with it is that the Weimar Republic—Germany for the 12 years before the Nazi party came to power—had its own version of Section 13 and equivalent laws. It was very much a kind of proto-Canada in its hate speech laws. The Nazi party had 200 prosecutions brought against it for anti-Semitic speech. At one point the state of Bavaria issued an order banning Hitler from giving public speeches.”
And a fat lot of good it all did.
That’s why “we don’t look back at the Weimar Republic”. If you’re rube enough to sign up for Professor Bray’s classes, here’s more…

Some stuff I wrote about Louis CK a few years ago…
Louis CK has quickly become the Kevin Smith of non-obese beta males…
In this interview, Louis CK goes from offering a truly insightful explanation of the fallout from Tracy Morgan’s controversial “homophobic” joke, to ending the interview with (and this is the actual transcript):
“I think the opportunity that was lost was for the gay community to ask Tracy, ‘why did you say that’ and ‘what was your dad like’ and ‘what does being a man mean to you,’ you know what I mean? It could have been a starting point of a conversation that might have actually made a difference in how people feel about homophobia.”
And right there, Louis CK sounds like the kind of person a comedian (like Louis CK) is supposed to be making fun of.
Second, even Jerry Seinfeld doesn’t quite get it. He singles out Louis CK for praise as a younger comic who “doesn’t worry” about PC.
Except he does. And so does CK’s female counterpart, Amy Schumer. They’re the comedy Jesus and Mary to millennials because they’ve discovered that a dash or three of sriracha helps audiences of every political persuasion swallow what really amounts to the same old rotten, knee-jerk, “progressive” worldview.
If you simply lard your gags with enough swearing, scatology, and sex, you can make them seem edgier than they really are. As I’ve said here before, every “shocking” CK (or now, Schumer) bit is really just an eat-your-kale Afterschool Special, but with swears.
Strip away the cursing and the cringeworthy blather about bodily functions, and this “brilliant, daring, revolutionary” comedy is just “Louis learns that fat girls are human too”…
Stand up comics talk about Tracy Morgan (still)
