Edinburgh Book Festival, 26.08.12

A new Artemis Fowl is a much-anticipated event but when it’s the last ever… Eoin Colfer introduces his final thrilling instalment, Artemis Fowl and the Last Guardian, featuring a magical portal, fairies and rampaging dead soldiers. Thankfully, Eoin has stated that he will keep writing until people stop reading or he runs out of ideas. As neither is likely, the final Artemis adventure doesn’t spell the end for his fans, there will be plenty more from Eoin Colfer to look forward to in the future!

Sunday 26 August, 1:30pm - 2:30pm, RBS Main Theatre, £4.50

I Can’t Believe Artemis Fowl is Ending! - Blue Peter / BBC Interview

With the release of his latest book, Artemis Fowl and the Last Guardian, Eoin Colfer is bringing his epic fantasy series to an end. We caught up with the author - between battles with Elves, Goblins and Fairies - to ask the questions everyone wants to know.

Eoin, you’re wrapping the Artemis Fowl series up in your latest book. How did you feel saying goodbye to the characters you created over ten years ago?

I was relieved to finally type ‘the end’ after 14 years of work, but now that I am out in the world talking about it, I am beginning to feel a little sad. I have had people actually crying with real tears. I don’t want to make kids cry, apart from my own obviously - just kidding. I don’t want to make any kids sad. But it is better that they are sad now than bored in a couple of years.

Q&A with Eoin on Crime Always Pays blog

Declan Burke's blog "Crime Always Pays" recently featured a quickfire Q&A session with Eoin Colfer, here' s taster:

Worst / best thing about being a writer?
The best thing about being a writer is that you are allowed to choose your own music in the office and also build a shrine to your own accomplishments. The worst thing is that there are not many things sadder than a middle aged man looking at pictures of himself when he was for a brief moment cool, while listening to Whitesnake.

The pitch for your next book is …?
It’s a time travel trilogy where the FBI have discovered a wormhole and are using it to hide federal witnesses in the past.

Plugged Review by Shots Magazine

Eoin Colfer has introduced us to some excellent (if somewhat wacky) characters from the main protagonist, McEvoy to the various eccentric and at times over the top individuals that make up the cast of Plugged. Add to that a plot that, whilst at times makes you cringe (because of what is going on), is so gripping from the first page that you can’t and don’t want to stop reading. With excellent references to mob films and actors pitted throughout the book, the reader is in for a hell of a ride.

The Last Guardian Review by the Bookwitch

Our good friend The Bookwitch follows up her review of the first event of the Last Guardian UK tour with a review of the book itself. And while she admits that she can't give too much away there are a few interesting nuggets here that reveal some of what's in the final Artemis Adventure.

The Last Guardian feels more tightly written than some of the Artemis books, and the humour is second to none. I’d love to quote you a few choice lines, but can’t. It’d give it away.
