Cameo Appearances in Upcoming Books

This is aWorldbuildersBlog.

And now we have something completely different. Something different and filled with unprecedented cool.

Some authors refer to this sort of thing as a Tuckerization (for historical reasons). Others think of it as a cameo appearance or giving someone naming rights to a character.

But ultimately, it all boils down to the same thing: you’ll be getting to make a guest appearance in an author’s future books.

This is, in some ways, a chance at immortality.

I’m sure I don’t hav...

Books from Gollancz, Exterminating Angel Press, and AudioGo

This is aWorldbuildersBlog.

Gollancz has been a big supporter of Worldbuidlers for the last several years. They’re a huge UK publisher, so it’s worth noting that everything from them is the UK edition, which automatically makes it 6 times fancier.

5 box sets of the theSookie Stackhouse Novels paperback box set by Charlaine Harris.

“Harris does an admirable job of creating a heroine who’s not only interesting but completely believable in a world of the strange and the different. Natural and humor...

Even More Signed Books from Cool Authors

This is aWorldbuildersBlog.

Today we’ve got more books donated by the authors themselves. Gaze on them with wonder and delight…

Some of them we’re putting up for auction along with a select few other books.

But the vast majority of them are joining the hundred of books that will be given away lottery-style to everyone who donates on our Team Heifer page.

Right. On to the books….

Auction: A set of Inda, The Fox, King’s Shield, and Treason’s Shore. Signed by Sherwood Smith. Includes a hand-drawn map...

Photo Contest Winners – Action

Yes. Seriously.

Those of you who know anything about me probably realize that I have a problem with deadlines.

The root of this difficulty is multifarious. But it can mostly be traced back to three elements in my personality.

1. A desire for perfection.

I get obsessive about doing everything *just right* when honestly, *mostly* right would be just fine in most cases.

2. Enthusiasm.

I get excited about things, which leads me to pick up new projects, which means I constantly over-commit myself, which...

Professional Critiques for Aspiring Authors

This is aWorldbuildersBlog.

At its heart, Worldbuilders is a charity for people that love books.

Given that so many of Worldbuilder’s supporters are readers, it’s not terribly surprising that a lot of them are aspiring writers as well.

Every year we run a few auctions where authors and editors offer to give folks critical feedback on their unpublished manuscripts. Generally speaking, every year, they’re some of our most successful auctions.

Since people seem to like them so much, this year we’re...

Signed Books from Cool Authors

This is aWorldbuildersBlog.

Every year, we get a bunch of books donated by the authors themselves. And this year is no exception…

All of the books below are signed by the authors. What’s more, some of them are limited edition, rare, or cool in their own beautiful snowflake way.

As always, most of them are going in the lottery, so you can win them if you donate at least ten bucks over on the Worldbuilders Team Page.

But we’re throwing a few of them up into into our auctions too, in case you’re int...

Signed Books from Del Rey

This is aWorldbuildersBlog.

This year, fabulous fantasy publisher Del Rey has joined Worldbuilders as a sponsor, sending us a slew of beautiful books.

Not only are these books lovely, but every single one of them is signed (or bookplated) by the authors themselves.

Because people seem to be responding well to the auctions we’ve posted up so far, we’re going to be doing putting a few of these books up for auction too. So if you look at any of these books and simply NEED to have it. Or if you see...

A little video….

We’re on the cusp of black Friday as I write this, a day I intend to spend not spending. If you follow me.

Rather than throw more books at y’all right now, when you’re still soppy with triptophan and being bombarded with advertizing from all other sides, I thought I’d share a little video I did last year that explains what Heifer International is all about.

If you’re curious. A goat costs about 120 bucks.

Also, here’s a link to the Worldbuilders team page. Y’know. Just in case you’re interested…...

More Awesome Books

This is aWorldbuildersBlog.

As you know, a lot of the books we give away during Worldbuilders come from publishers or the authors themselves.

But over the last couple years, we’ve had more and more books donated by people who are just… well… people. Some work at bookstores, some are hardcore collectors, and some of them are just folks who love Heifer International and want to help out with the fundraiser.

This blog is composed entirely of books from those donors. Some of them are rare or out of...

The Opposite of Black Friday….

This is a Worldbuilders Blog.

So the holiday shopping season is fast approaching. Later this week, corporations all over the US are going to pull every trick in the book to sell you crap. There will be madness in the stores. People will behave badly. There will be news stories about people getting hospitalized while trying to buy some plastic toy made in a third world country.

And you know, I get it. I want to buy my little boy every cute little thing I see in the store. Last year I bought him...
