Storyboard: A Call for Questions

For those of you who haven’t seen it yet. Here’s last month’s episode of Storyboard:

Not that I haven’t been proud of the other episodes, but I think we finally hit our stride with this one. It’s my favorite so far…

For episode #6, we’re doing something a little different. Since it’s happening on Jan 2nd, I know putting together a full panel of four writers will be tricky, as everyone is going to be either traveling because of the holidays or hung over from New Year’s. (Or still drunk from New...

Donation Incentives….

Okay folks, today I’m going to ask for your help. I need some ideas.

This year we’re trying out something new to encourage people to donate and spread the word about Worldbuilders.

Call them Stretch Goals, or Donation Incentives, or bonus cookies or whatever. The upshot is that for every 50,000 dollars we raise on the Worldbuilders Team Page, I wanted to add something cool to the fundraiser.

When we started back in November, these were the goals I listed:

$50,000: Secrets revealed on Pat’s blog.

$...

Secrets: Currencies in the Four Corners World

Years ago, I did a tiny, impromptu reading in Stevens Point. I announced it on facebook about 20 minutes before the fact, and there were only 6-7 people there.

When I asked for questions, (because I love doing Q&A) someone asked, “How does the currency system work? You’ve got pennies and jots and shims. How does it all fit together?”

“Oh,” I said, waving my hands. “It’s really complicated. You don’t want me to get started.”

“I’m really curious,” she said. “I’d love to hear the details.”

“There re...

Short Story Collections

This is aWorldbuildersBlog.

Some of these books came from publishers, some from authors, or fans. Some of them are signed. Some of them are rare or out of print. Some of them are limited editions you can’t find in any store.

What do they have in common? They’re all short story collections.

As you all know, while I love story, I’m not very good at the *short* part. But I respect the hell out of the people that can do it well.

All of today’s books are going into the Worldbuilders Lottery. That mean...

My Favorite Book: Worldbuilders Team Edition

This is aWorldbuildersBlog. Written by the Worldbuilders Team.

Today’s blog is a little different. It’s different, because Pat is being gently asked (forced) to take a couple of days off. So we’re helping.

We brainstormed what to do with our hijacked blog, and have decided to do a little bit extra for our supporters. You guys have no idea how much we appreciate the love and support we get from you, especially after a long day of fundraiser work. It’s easy to lose sight, but some of your emails,...

Warm Fuzzies

Today we’re going to take a little break from the day-to-day business of Worldbuilders. We’ve had a busy couple weeks here.

We’ve still got a few auctions going on that you might want to take a peek at. But we won’t be launching any new ones until January. Worldbuilders runs until January 18th, so we still have plenty of time.

We’re not pausing the fundraiser so much as we’re slowing it down a bit. This is a busy time for everyone, and we don’t want to have to compete for your attention. This t...

A Holiday Hodgelany

This is aWorldbuildersBlog.

Today, we bring you… well… everything we wanted to get out before Christmas.

We’ve got a bunch of new stuff in the store. Most of these new items we only have a few of, so you might want to move quickly.

We’ve also got a *ton* of auctions running and some of them are going to be over in only a day.

We’ve got books, art, and one-of a kind items like this…

Auction: A unique hand-made Amigurumi Kvothe fromShannon Rivera.

All parts of the doll and accessories are hand made....

More Guest Appearances and Delicious Comics

This is aWorldbuildersBlog.

Okay folks, we’re in Non-Denominational-Holiday crunch-time here. So I’m going to pass along a few vital pieces of news about the fundraiser, then get straight to today’s donations.

1. I’m well aware that I owe y’all some payoff after hitting our first two stretch goals. And our 150K goal of an interview and open to the public Q&A with Amber Benson is looming on the horizon.

Rest assured, I’m getting those blogs ready. But right now isn’t the best time to post them be...

A Game of Books

Hey there everyone. I’d like to take a brief break from our Worldbuilders fundraiser to talk about… a fundraiser.

No! Wait! Don’t run off!

I’m well aware that this is insane behavior. But hear me out. You guys know how much I love Heifer International. I wouldn’t take time away from my own fundraiser to encourage you to put money somewhere else unless it was a good cause.

Here’s the thing. A couple months ago, I got an e-mail about something called The Game Of Books. It seemed like someone was p...

Signed Books from Awesome Authors

This is aWorldbuildersBlog.

Okay. Before we look at today’s books, I’m going to tell a little story. Because that’s what I do.

The truth is, yesterday I was right on the edge of burning out on the fundraiser. I was running on about two hours of sleep, worried about the holidays, and stressed because I’m behind on about fifty different things.

I don’t talk about it a lot, but it takes a lot of frantic behind-the-scenes juggling to make Worldbuilders happen, and even with the great team that helps...
