Note to Hermes, Patek Philippe, Louis Vuitton, and Other Customers: Declare Your Purchases!

Patek Philippe watch gets smuggler slapped A man who failed to declare his new 18 karat rose gold Patek Philippe watch in his jacket pocket, was fined more than $10,000 in Richmond provincial court last week.
Wei Zhao pled guilty Feb. 11 to evading duties on imported goods, and was fined $10,607.45.
Zhao flew in to Vancouver International Airport following a trip to Hong Kong on July 27, 2013.
He used the automated kiosk to make his declaration, but was referred for a secondary inspection.
That’s when his luggage was searched, and officers discovered and seized 101 packages of undeclared cigarettes, with no terms of release, and three undeclared Hermes wallets, along with the Patek Philippe watch.
The value of the seized goods was $95,202.90, according to Canada Border Services Agency spokesperson Stefanie Wudel.
To get his watch and wallets back, Zhao is facing another penalty of between $22,848.70 and $76,162.32.

The Power of the Hermes Birkin Bag

This bag can be yours for $64,500.  A true testament to the investment potential and power of the Birkin bag....this bag is circa 1990. It's matte crocodile, 30cm, and originally cost in the vicinity of $15,000 when it was purchased new at Hermes about 24 years ago.  If you could buy this bag new at Hermes today it would cost in the area of $45,000.
The bag is available as of this writing at Barney's New York, Boston store.

Hermes U.S. CEO Robert Chavez Still Pulling the Croc Over His Customers Eyes

Hermès US CEO: Brand will remain family-owned for next 20 years“In the fast Internet age that we live in, luxury clients cannot be fooled,” said Robert Chavez, president/CEO of Hermès of Paris Inc. “If you are trying to deliver a message to them, it has to be authentic or they will not buy or believe in it." -Robert Chavez, CEO Hermès USA

Really, Bob?
Has dementia set it? What about all those years with the bogus Birkin Waiting List!

“Our clients believe in Hermès’ authenticity,” he said. “That’s what keeps our clients coming back again and again, but it also is bringing people into the house, and to the craftsmanship, in a world that moves so fast.”- Robert Chavez, CEO Hermès USA

Again, really?  Hermès leads their customers to believe that every Hermès bag is entirely hand-stitched, using that old-world saddle-stitching technique.  You know as well as I do that this is simply not the case. The vast majority of Hermès bags use machine stitching. Many Hermès bags are not even made by Hermès craftsmen.
Sounds to me like Bob thinks he could sell snow to Sarah Palin (or her Russian neighbors).
Some of us know better.
