Home design trends by the decade, and which trends last? 1950-today
Last week on the Your Home Story Podcast we talked about trends in the first half of the 20th century and today we’re covering 1950-present. You’ll recognize the sound of a lot of these! We’re also talking about how to decorate for your time without going overboard on trends.

Affordable SNOO Alternatives: Important Update
When Otto was a newborn, we really really struggled with sleep. I shared in this post how I found he slept better/longer napping in the Rock N Play than he did in his flat, plain bassinet, but of course the American Academy of Pediatrics' sleep guidelines say baby needs to be on a flat surface, i.e. NOT a Rock N Play or swing seat, for sleep. (Since Otto was a newborn, the Rock N Play has actually been recalled for safety reasons and we sent ours back in.) Otto also slept better in the wrap, or...

Late summer bedroom update and getting our room ready to share with a newborn!
I looooove bedroom decor and shopping for bedding. I'm very happy with the bones of our bedroom (we redid it in the fall 2018 One Room Challenge) but I love to update the bedding, art, plants, etc. regularly/as the seasons change! Plus, with baby girl arriving this month I knew we'd need to move a few things around to make room for not only the bassinet but also a few other things I found essential in the newborn phase with Otto.

Home design trends by the decade, and which trends last? 1900-1950
Super interesting when you think about it--how home design trends change over the years and still influence us today. So much is based on what was going on in the world at the time (we're seeing that now with COVID influencing design, even). It's a lot to cover so I'm breaking it down 1900-1950 today...

Perfect late summer dresses under $40!
Summer is my favorite season by far!! It starts so late here in Oregon we really only get part of July and all of August for warm weather and wearing cute summer clothes before the fall stuff takes over. And I've been very pregnant all spring and summer so I haven't had much chance to enjoy wearing cute dresses and sandals (been wearing thigh high compression socks and maternity yoga pants instead).

Maternity photos for baby #2!
When I was pregnant with Otto we took a babymoon to the Oregon coast and took glamorous maternity photos with a professional photographer on top of Cape Kiwanda. Well, things are a little different this time around... energetic 2-year-old in tow, Jason studying for the physical therapy board exam all the time, global pandemic... so we did it a little differently for baby #2!

Upstairs bathroom reno: before and design
Getting geared up for our next reno project!! We're feeling ambitious... we didn't even put this one on our 2020 house project goals list since we were pretty burned out from our main bathroom reno last fall and not sure how many more DIY efforts we could tackle. Well, this next bathroom is going to be a piece of cake in comparison!
It's our upstairs bathroom and unfortunately it's only a half bath. This house was built in 1937 and from what I've seen from other homes of around that era, that's n...

Ultimate baby registry essentials--updated!
Baby #2 will be here soon!! I'm not having a big shower like last time and haven't send out my registry link much but I am purchasing a few things I really wish we'd had the first time around. Plus, I looked back at my registry post and first 4 weeks newborn essentials post from 2 years ago when we had Otto and while I still stand by those recs!!!, some items are no longer available or I've found better replacements for. (There's a lot more selection now even just compared to 2018!)
