Author Interview with novelist Amy Vansant

This is an excerpt from my post on Focus on Fiction. Read the full interview at https://www.nancychristie.com/focuson...
Amy Vansant My initial connection with Amy Vansant came about when I used her service, AuthorsXP, to help promote my books.

In one of her marketing emails, she mentioned she had a new book out, Pineapple Trivia Night: A cozy mystery like CLUE full of riddles & puzzlesPineapple Trivia Night (Book 18 in her Pineapple Port Mysteries), and since I am all about helping other authors promote their books, I reached out to her to offer her a spot on Focus on Fiction.

But it wasn’t until I read her bio that I found out just how prolific she is, which also made me feel like a lazy slug! A USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestselling author, Amy has written more than 30 books and specializes in fun, exciting reads with plenty of laughs and action.

Here are some excerpts from our interview!

Tell us about your newest book.
Pineapple Trivia Night: A cozy mystery like CLUE full of riddles & puzzlesIn Pineapple Trivia Night, newly engaged private investigators, Charlotte and Declan, are hired to go undercover in a high-stakes trivia contest at the castle of an eccentric retired game show host.
While they need the work and the price is right, thanks to a family feud, what sounds like a fun job, turns out to be jeopardy.
The dress code is formal, the guest list is conniving, the castle is locked, and there's one other glaring issue...
I'll take dead guy in the hidden passageway for five hundred, Alex...

What is the next project you have in the works?
I’m almost done with the next Pineapple Port Mystery and then I’m contemplating writing a standalone romance or thriller. Although series are easier to sell and even though the ideas I have for these I’m really happy about, I worry about writing a rando book I have to think about separately for marketing. Marketing is exhausting!

Is writing your full-time career?
Yes and no—I write full time, but I also own and run AuthorsXP.com (a book marketing firm for authors and book deal service for readers).

What advice do you have for other writers who are contemplating pursuing a writing career?
KEEP WRITING. You can’t publish, sell or improve if you don’t keep constantly writing!

Thoughts on writing and life for July 2023

Photo by Roman Bintang on Unsplash

Just a few thoughts on why it’s important to remember to “enjoy the ride” while writing.

This is an edited excerpt from my July 2023 newsletter, The Writing Life. (Subscribe here.)

You can also listen to it on my Living the Writing Life podcast.

A lot of books and articles about writing—the doing of it, the producing of it and the marketing of it—focus on the work aspect: “Commit to X number of hours each day” or “Budget X number of dollars each month” if y...

My Thoughts on…This Is the Story of a Happy Marriage by Ann Patchett

I like reading books about writing. Not the “why you should avoid a dangling participle” or “how to choose the right point of view for your novel” type of books but rather books that are about the writing process: the creative parts, the frustrating aspects, the “I’m full of doubt about this piece I’m working on, but I can’t let it go” side of writing.

And I especially love reading books about writing that are written in the first person. By the writer. Who is dealing with the creative parts, th...

“Who are you?” — Answering the Caterpillar’s Question

Photo by pure julia on Unsplash

“Who are you?” said the Caterpillar. This was not an encouraging opening for a conversation. Alice replied, rather shyly, “I—I hardly know, sir, just at present—at least I know who I was when I got up this morning, but I think I must have been changed several times since then.”

(From Alice In Wonderland by Lewis Carroll)

I’ve been thinking a lot about titles. Titles can be useful because they help define who a person is and in many cases, the pecking order in whic...

Thoughts on writing and life for June 2023

Just a few thoughts on why writers need a personal manifesto to keep them on track

This is an edited excerpt from my June 2023 newsletter, The Writing Life.

You can also listen to it on my Living the Writing Life podcast.

A while back I read an interesting excerpt from You Need A Manifesto by Charlotte Burgess-Auburn. In the excerpt, the author talks about the need to know your destinations (in other words, your creative goals) and the importance of ensuring that what you are doing on a daily b...
