Perfectly erotic.

Because of what I write, I often find myself in the middle of a conversation about the differences between romance, erotica, and pornography. One thing I always hope will help people make sense of the lines between these things is art. For some reason, when it comes to writing, people have a hard time understanding that erotic does not always mean pornographic, but they don’t have that problem with movies, paintings, or even photographs. When I saw the image below on Pinterest my first thought was, Now there’s the perfect example of something that is erotic, but not pornographic.

What’s the picture of? A Lime. Not something I’d really consider erotic in and of itself…but this image, hell yeah, it’s erotic-and in no way pornographic.

Do you agree? Or do you think it’s pornographic?

The Truth About Love

The Truth About Love is out…and I say go get it!

Pink is always awesome. She’s inspiring as a person and an artist because she’s always so true to herself. She has an amazing voice, true talent, and the integrity to honor both. This album is her best yet in my opinion.

It’s raw, honest, and every song on it strikes a chord somewhere inside.

Don’t doubt it-download it.

Moving forward.

“Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance, you must keep moving.”

― Albert Einstein

When I first started writing, things went real good, and my career moved fast. Seriously, fast. As in I wrote my first piece of fiction in 2003, and sold my first novel to Berkley, on proposal, in 2005. I’d never even written a full novel before, and before I was done writing that first one I had three other contracts. I was lucky in that I was writing what was hot, when the genre started to get really noticed by big publishers, and that I seemed to be good at it.

I was also really uneducated about the whole industry. At the time this was happening I didn’t get that it was unusual and that many writers struggled for years before selling. When I did start to get an inkling of how easy I’d had it, I knew there would come a time for me to pay my dues, but I never anticipated it would be in a way that affected my whole life, and not just my writing.

Several months ago I came out of the closet- so to speak- about what’s been going on in my life for the past couple years. I did it on the Genreality group blog because I’m there every Tuesday and the blog is all about life as a professional writer. I’d talked about the health issues full-time writers face many times, usually to do with the body, but in this Healthy Writer post I talked about the heart, spirit and soul of it. Since then I’ve heard from and talked to so many writers who have suffered from/dealt with mental health issues that it’s surprised me there wasn’t more out there about it.

Right now, I’m in the ‘keep on moving forward’ stage of things. My motivation is there, but my concentration still isn’t what it used to be. I still get disappointed in myself because I set goals and then can’t meet them, the thing is, I’m setting my goals according to what I used to be able to do, and not allowing for easing back into things.

Example: I really wanted to have ONE CHOICE release in August when I went to AAD in New Orleans, but I never got it written in time. In fact, I’m still writing it. This is frustrating to me because it’s only a short story, and I know I could used to be able to write that in a weekend. The issue isn’t all finding the time to write. If I’m honest, I can find the time. The problem is when I do find the time, I have a very hard time sitting down and concentrating.

Then, it seems like every time I do get focussed and moving forward on my writing, something happens. Work calls, someone knocks on the door, a friends calls asking for a favor that for whatever reason I feel I can’t say no to. I find myself getting very frustrated, but I just keep telling myself to keep moving forward. I think this is a lesson everyone needs… things are rarely smooth going in life, and the key to success in whatever you choose to do is to keep moving forward.

Am I right? Or am I wrong?

Erotica For Couples

People are often surprised when I tell them sometimes I get fan mail from men. Especially when I mention they’ve never read any of my stories. Sounds weird doesn’t it? But it’s true. You might wonder how can they be fans if they’ve never read any of my stories? Well, because their wife/girlfriend does, and they reap the benefits. *g*

I love hearing from people who enjoy my stories, and I think it’s awesome that some of them aren’t actual readers. To my way of thinking, sex is a hugely important aspect of life, and I truly believe good sex can improve a persons quality of life. Considering this, I’m honored to know my imagination helps others enjoy a higher quality of life. LOL

With that in mind, how could I not try and get a story into an anthology that is specifically geared towards couples? Never mind that it’s a collection edited by the always fabulous Alison Tyler.  So, needless to say I begged my way into the submission process, and whipped up a little story called Closed Door Meeting.

See, the concept behind Morning, Noon, and Night is more than just stories for couples, but that it’s around the clock sex. Doesn’t that appeal? There’s a story that  takes place at every hour for a full day.

I decided to challenge myself  with this submission. I asked Alison to give me a time to write a story for because I figured there’s bound to be a some times that people don’t want to write.  The challenge came…3p.m. was my time slot, and I  challenged myself by trying to come up with an idea that wasn’t simply a late lunch, or someone doing something naughty on their day off.

Wanna know what I came up with?  I’ll give you a hint…the working title was Facetime.

Morning, Noon and Night has just released.

What men like in bed.

Because the heroines in my stories are all kick -ass hottie’s who make men weak with desire I do a lot of research for my novels – get your mind out of the gutters- I mean I read a lot, talk to a lot of people , ask a lot of questions…that sort of thing about what gets a man all hot & bothered.   (That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.) Those who have met me in person can attest to the fact that I’m not really the shy type, so I ‘m not afraid to ask nosy questions, and well, I thought it would be fun to start this weekend off with a post about some of the fun facts about men I’ve learned.

This is not scientific, and I have no notes to back up these statements, but from my research I’ve compiled a list of things men like in bed.

Be Noisy Men might not be eager to have a heart-to-heart talk, but when it’s time for some sex’n they like to hear from you. They like to know when they’re doing something right, and something wrong. It’s a point of pride for them to be good, and their not afraid of a little direction.  And if you’re comfortable with it, there’s no need to be a lady about it,  some say, the filthier the talk, the better the sex. Tell them what you like, gently, or explicitly…and they’ll do their best to deliver. If words are too much to ask for, then don’t be shy with the moans and sighs, gasps and squeals.

Put a little effort in: Men want to feel sexy too. They want you to want them, so show it. Don’t be shy about touching them everywhere. You want them to fuck you harder, don’t just say it, but work at it, push /thrust against them too. They’ll give what they get.

Oral Sex: really, does this need an explanation? Men love blow jobs, but they hate having to always ask for them. It’s not as enjoyable when you act like it’s a chore, so show some enthusiasm-and if you’re open to it, swallow. It makes him feel like a king.

Show Time: Men are visual creatures, and doing it in front of a mirror, or a video camera (for their own viewing pleasure) is a turn on. Masturbating for you is a turn on for some, and watching you touch yourself is something every guy said was a turn on. They don’t care as much bout perfect bodies as you think they do, most of them agreed that if you’re naked, and they’re gonna get some sex’n, then you’re perfect.

I’m Back

Okay people, I’m aware I been slacking, but I’m here to tell you I’m back. You will notice a difference. I hope that means you’ll start visiting me here again on a regular basis, and please speak up. I love feedback, and knowing that you’re out there reading what I’m putting down means a lot, even if it’s only a blog post I’m writing. *g* So, I’ll be unvieling some of my plans for 2013 as they get solidified. This one came about because I had such a damn good time in New Orleans at the Authors After Dark conference last August, and I’m super excited about it! What do you think? WOuld you want to spend an Hour playing Erotic Trivia with myself and the fabulous Joey Hill? The first 75 people in the room will get Goody Bags full of treats, and there’s gonna be some other prizes given out randomly to Trivia participants and winners.

It’s been hot here. So very hot. I love it when I’m traveling, but not so much when I’m at home, and have to work.

I’ve been dreaming of swimming pools…and of Alexander Skarsgard begging me to skinny dip with him. :)
