Good-bye to my friend, my sister...Brenda Talley!
A few years ago - not long after the release of Goldeneyes - I received an e-mail from a lady I did not know. She was a reviewer, at the time, for The Romance Studio. I had never met her, never heard of her, but she made such an impact in my life.Brenda told me she probably shouldn't be writing me personally, but she had been so touched by Goldeneyes that she had to say something to me. She informed me it was the best book she had ever read...and she read a lot. I can't even begin to say how much it meant to me, coming on the heels of a harsh critique that very nearly had me throwing in my pen, never to write again.
Over time, Brenda and I became very close "online" friends...but I always felt that I knew her, and we looked forward to possibly meeting one day. We came to think of each other as sisters, and even "shared" her Dad in his last days. We often talked about "our Daddy," and I really wish I could have known him.
Today, I discovered that my sweet online sister went to be with the Lord a few months ago. I didn't know, and I feel negligent...why didn't I know? Why wasn't I in closer contact? Yes, we were both very busy...I made a major move from Oklahoma to California this year, then was sick for several months, and on deadline for two novels. I buried myself. But that's no excuse...I should have been in contact. I should have known something was wrong when I didn't hear from Brenda after several weeks. We weren't in daily or even weekly contact, but I should've realized it had been too long since I heard from her.
I hope she'll forgive me for not being the kind of friend and sister I should've been.
I loved you, Brenda Talley...and I will miss your sweet presence, the light of your personality, your encouragement. You. I will miss YOU.
Farewell, my precious friend...until we meet again. I will never, ever forget you!

New Release: Fairytale of Headley Cross
by Clare RevellIs this not a stunning...gorgeous...captivating cover? I love it. Actually, that's worth repeating: I love this cover!
And the story inside is just as wonderful.
FAIRYTALE OF HEADLEY CROSS is a Christmas eBook, part of Pelican Book Group's Christmas Extravaganza for 2013. I've truly enjoyed Clare Revell's style in each of her books that I've read...and Fairytale is no exception.
Here's my review:
Elementary and Sunday School teacher Maggie Turner gives her low-life, cheating boyfriend a generous piece of her mind over the phone…he deserves it. Except she’s called the wrong number—the man on the other end is her new pastor, Carson Armitage. And that’s just the beginning of a relationship that promises to be anything but romantic, especially when the ghosts of Carson’s past come back to haunt him and Maggie. Only God’s grace, a forgiving heart and true love could possibly create a fairytale out of the horror story their relationship could become.
I’ve learned to expect the unexpected from this author, and FAIRY TALE OF HEADLEY CROSS doesn’t disappoint. “Unexpected” is an understatement. Clare Revell takes her readers along on a bumpy coach ride that seems destined for anything but a fairy tale ending—with the hero and heroine unknowingly caught in opposite strands of a sticky, tangled web. It’s a beautifully written, seamlessly woven, masterfully handled romance that made me want to believe in fairy tales. Truly excellent!
Blurb:
Christmas is a busy time in the church calendar, and Pastor Carson Armitage still trying to find his feet in his first job as an ordained minister. When he decides to organize a nativity for Christmas Eve, he employs the help of Maggie Turner, Sunday school teacher extraordinaire. She’s dedicated, smart and beautifu; and Carson finds himself falling for her. But when his past comes back to haunt him in a big way, Christmas may not be so merry.
Can the past be laid to rest? Or is happily ever after only a fairytale?
Excerpt:
Carson headed across the hall to the lady that Trudi had pointed out. Too late he realized he didn’t know if she were a Miss or a Mrs. And after last time, he wasn’t going to call anyone Ms. Well, whatever her title, she was a stunning woman. Perhaps she was a little on the willowy side, but with curves in all the right places.
She looked familiar. He’d seen her before. Well, obviously. In church on a Sunday he chided himself.
Carson sneaked a look at her left hand as she draped her coat over the back of a chair. “Miss Turner?”
She turned and looked at him. “Yes?”
He held out a hand, her voice familiar, but he was sure he hadn’t spoken to her before today. “I’m Carson Armitage. I understand you organize and teach the Sunday School classes for the children.”
Her eyes flickered for a moment. He could almost see her mind whirling as if trying to place him. Just like the way his mind was trying to work out where he’d seen and heard her before. And it wasn’t from church either. It was somewhere else.
“Yes, I do. It means missing the service each Sunday morning, but I try to make the evening ones.”
“That’s good to hear.” He paused. “This is going to sound really corny, but have we met?”
“You have a dog,” she said absently. “I’ve seen you in the park. You’re Mr. Border Collie.”
Of course. The blonde woman who was so upset earlier that afternoon. “Miss Sheltie. But it’s more than that. I’m sure I’ve heard your voice before. Have we spoken on the phone or something like that?”
His voice died in his throat. That was it.
Color flooded her face. Had she made the connection at the same instant he had? “Oh, no. Please tell me I didn’t ring you this afternoon by mistake.”
“I wish I could, but, yes, I’m afraid you rang the church office and I answered the phone.”
About the author:
Clare lives in a small town in England with her husband, whom she married in 1992, and her three children. Writing from a early childhood and encouraged by her teachers, she graduated from rewriting fairy stories through fanfiction to using her own original characters and enjoys writing an eclectic mix of romance, crime fiction and children's stories. What readers have to say:
* "Maddy Lederman is a 21 st Century Judy Blume"
* "The author displays literary maturity in her subtle, nuanced and patient treatment of Edna's movement from self-centered to other-centered.I recommend this book to all - not just the YA group & I hope to read other books from this author."
* "Loved this book, brought up so many things I think about in terms of kids, technology and our materialistic society."
About the author: Maddy Lederman's writing has appeared in The Huffington Post, The Los Angeles Times and The Sun
Runner, a magazine about California deserts. Maddy has an MFA in Acting from Brooklyn College. After school she discovered what it's like to wait around at auditions all day, and so she did not pursue an acting career. Edna In The Desert is Maddy's first novel.Q&A with Maddy:
What has drawn you to writing for the YA market?
I wanted to write a warm, amusing story about how a modern teenager would react to being totally unplugged. Some of my friends’ kids don’t even look up from their phones to say hello, and I wonder where this is taking our culture. My character, Edna, is thirteen, so the YA market was naturally drawn to my book, but I wasn’t drawn to a particular market. I’ve found that adults enjoy Edna In the Desert as much as teens.
What is the quirkiest thing you have ever done?
I’ve done many quirky things, a lot of them in the desert! I took a “sound bath” at The Integratron. I hiked up a mountain in 110 degrees on a first date and eventually married the guy. My job in film and TV creates endless quirky opportunities, for example, covering Adam West, TV’s Batman, in creamed corn. We met years later in Palm Springs and laughed about it.
How can readers find you on the Internet?
On Facebook and my website, MaddyLederman.com.

New Release & Giveaway: Claiming His Heart
by Tanya Hanson
(Someone who comments on this post will receive a FREE Kindle copy of CLAIMING HIS HEART!)
About CLAIMING HIS HEART:
Caught between a noose and a cave-in, Tulsa Sanderson must do anything possible to prove his brother’s innocence...even if it means marrying a gold miner’s daughter he just met. He needs every nugget and flake he can pull from her worn-out claim, but he sure doesn’t need a wife. Save his brother and he’ll be back on the Texas cattle trails. God, and trusting Him, are things of the past.
Charlotte Amalie lost her heart, her virtue, and her money to the last mysterious outsider who came to the valley. Faith? That’s wavered after too many family tragedies. But she has no choice but to wed the handsome Tull. He bears terrible family secrets that need to be kept behind closed doors. Although she’s eager to leave the valley to find a new life for herself and medical treatments for her wounded twin brother, her unwanted marriage douses her plans, yet stirs up hope and love for Tull...and begins to fortify her weakened faith.
Can the two of them find a future--and faith--together even with their haunted pasts?
Excerpt from CLAIMING HIS HEART:
He lifted his Stetson. Hard fingers ran against his scalp, ending at his neck to ease the tangle of nerves. The lost childhood, his dead ma, still tore his heart in two. But he had a chance to redeem it all, to save his brother—if these twins didn’t get in the way.
Then Charmlee’s eyes turned as hard as her voice, and she lifted her chin to stare straight in his eyes. “All right. I’m forced to agree this letter isn’t a forgery. But that doesn’t make you who you claim.” She raised an eyebrow. “Any thieving cowpoke could have collected that general delivery post and sought me out.”
Her smirk irked him. “I am who I claim. Make no mistake.”
“Well then,” Charmlee’s gray eyes narrowed and her voice slowed like a freezing creek. “Just how far would Mr. Tull Sanderson go to inherit his ‘birthright?’”
“How far? I already come all the way from Texas.”
She raised her eyebrows, and sashayed closer. “I mean, Daddy’s left a proviso. A requirement.”
“I will do anything,” he vowed, blood racing. Each day wasted brought his brother closer to doom.
“You sure about that? Well, I won’t, Mr. Tull. Make no mistake.” She was close enough now to whisper but be heard.
“What do you have to do with anything? You aren’t his kin. You said so yourself.” Tull tightened his fists in impatience.
“It seems I am the key, Mr. Tull.” Suddenly her gaze turned elsewhere. He froze. Like she was hatching plans to run off before settling things. But then she turned to him with a voice full of trembles, flicking the letter at him. “That key to your birthright, as you said. According to Daddy’s wishes, you don’t get a thing unless you marry me.”
Tanya shares a look behind the book:
Setting this story in Holcomb Valley, near Big Bear Lake, California was easy for me. Upon a visit to the valley not long ago, I almost heard voices from the past. And Big Bear is one of my favorite vacation spots.
The meadow shot is where the real Belleville stood, a slapdash village named for the first baby born in the valley. Of course “Belle” Van Dusen is my heroine’s childhood chum. And this arrastra, a rock circle where hard quartz rock was crushed to find golf flakes, was run by donkey power. It plays a part in the story. Please comment today for a chance to win a Kindle copy of the book!

Reviews for Stone of Destiny
Stone of Destiny by Mary L. Ball is a wonderful story of romance and one finding their way back to God through faith and trust. Taylor Harrison is the youngest CEO at the Mugful Beverage Company and she feels that her life is complete. With great trepidation she agrees to oversee the renovation of her grandmother's family home. Fifty years earlier, a sapphire ring was lost in the house and Granny Kay wants Taylor to search for the ring as the renovations are being made. After finding the ring, Taylor begins to have strange dreams and she is even making phone calls in her sleep at night.
Brent Roberts is the nephew of Granny Kay's best friend and he has been hired to do the renovations to the house. When he and Taylor meet, she is definitely not impressed even though she thinks he is the most handsome man she has ever seen. Brent is very much in tune with what God wants him to do with his life. His faith and the way he shares his knowledge of God cause Taylor to start questioning some of her beliefs. She soon realizes that she can only find happiness through a true faith in God.
The development of the plot, the characters, the dialogue, and the description of all the scenes were done in an excellent manner. The characters were so real that at times I wanted to shake Taylor and would not have minded if Brent gave me a hug. Granny Kay is the kind of grandma that everyone would love to have and her love for Taylor was a very important part of the story. All the action taking place in the book was so well done that in my mind I was struggling right along with Taylor as she worked to make her decisions and I was pulling for Brent to win Taylor's heart. I really appreciate the way that the author handled the romance in the story and how Taylor regained her faith in God and finally trusted Him with her life. Searching for the missing ring added a little suspense to the story.
Would she find the ring or would it be lost forever?
I highly recommend this book. If you like a wonderful story with lots of romance, a little bit of suspense, and a story in which faith in God plays a big part, then this is the book for you.
***********************Mary Ball has written a book that people must read. I have watched a lot of Nicholas Sparks movies and this book ranks up to the top of a Nicholas Sparks love story.
**********************
This is the second book by Mary Ball that I have read. The first one was a mystery/suspense that had me guessing all the way to the end. This one had me intrigued and wondering all the way to the end what path Taylor was going to choose. This story starts out with a bang, literally, and I was wondering how I was going to put this book down to sleep that night. I love decorating and watching HGTV so I was especially interested in Mary's description of how this old house was being renovated by our very special hero. This book also takes place over a period of time so it is not an insta-love, but one that grows. Though sometimes I did get aggravated with Taylor for some of the choices she was making that would have resulted in a very lonely life.
Brent, our hero, was very patient, knew what he wanted, and pursued Taylor by not be overbearing or controlling. The dreams Taylor would have added an air of mystery to the whole plot and kept me turning the pages just to find out with Taylor why she was having them and what they meant. This book was provided to me by the author and the opinions are my own.

Christmas eBook Release: A Cowboy Christmas
The second eBook co-authored by Tanya Stowe and myself released today as part of Pelican Book Group's Christmas Extravaganza! We weren't expecting it until December, but we got an early Christmas present...and so did you! It's only 99 cents, for a limited time!
A COWBOY CHRISTMAS is a Heart's Haven Christmas story. Here's the book in a nutshell:A mom on the run. A special child and
her “imaginary” friend. A cowboy. And God. Heart’s Haven is at it again…
Layne Mabrey is on the run.
Her ex-husband wants to have six-year-old
Chloe institutionalized, but Layne will go to any lengths to keep her Down's
Syndrome child.
Dex Beckett falls immediately in love
with both Layne and Chloe, but Layne can't afford to get close to anyone—not
even the shy, gentle cowboy next door. She and Chloe have to be ready to
run…again.
Concerned that Chloe's sudden creation
of an imaginary friend could be used to substantiate her father’s claims, Layne
is shocked when Dex offers an unbelievable opinion about the child’s invisible
visitor. But there's more to Heart's Haven than meets the eye. Is it possible a
Christmas miracle awaits Layne and Chloe on the Heart's Haven Angel Tree?
LEA'S GIFT, the first of our two releases for the Extravaganza, became available Nov. 16.At twenty-one,
Lea Dale is well-adjusted and happy, despite the facial scars she's carried
since infancy. She has friends in high places (with a connection to angels);
possesses colorful vision (since for some reason she can see auras around
folks); and her family and friends adore her. Corrective surgery is a
possibility, but not one Lea has felt the need to consider…until wealthy
investor Laren Meadows walks into her life and turns it upside down. Suddenly,
Lea is painfully conscious of her lack of perfection, given Laren's flawless
looks and ultra-charming personality. What a blessing that he's attracted to
her despite her scars—and even her special angel seems to approve of the match.
Then a secret
from Laren's past threatens to destroy any hope of a future for the two of
them. Now there's only one way for Lea to know if Laren's love is true, but
taking that action could mark the end of their relationship.
Can love
survive such a tangled mess of physical and emotional scars?
