A Sweet Christmas eRead...and a Free Gift!
I'm SO excited about LEA'S GIFT! This is one of two Christmas eNovellas scheduled for a Christmas-season release. Both were co-authored with Tanya Stowe. LEA'S GIFT was scheduled for release on Dec. 1, but released EARLY! I'd love to keep it as high as possible in the Amazon rankings clear through December.
To do that, I need YOUR help! What can you do? Well, purchase the book, of course! :D Also, since it's only 99 cents (for a limited time!), why not purchase copies for a couple of friends for Christmas? Yes, you CAN send eBooks as gifts! You do it right from the Amazon purchase page, and the book shows up in your recipient's inbox in a beautifully presented message - almost gift-wrapped! If your friends don't have eReaders, they just need to download the Kindle app - it's FREE - and they can read any Kindle book right on their computer screens!
In addition, please...post about LEA'S GIFT on Facebook and Twitter, if you have accounts there. (You'll find pre-written posts you can copy and paste at the end of this post.) Tell your friends about it.
Once you've read the book, I'd love it if you'd pop over to Amazon.com and leave a positive review - even if it's only a few words. It's the reviews that convince readers the book's worth reading. Word of mouth, you know - still the best advertisement possible. (If you read LEA'S GIFT and don't like it (Not gonna happen!), go ahead and share it with your enemies - but you can skip the whole Amazon review thing. LOL
And to thank you for helping take LEA'S GIFT to the top, I'll send you a FREE pdf of FIVE SHORT STORIES written by myself and Tanya Stowe. They're not specifically "inspirational," but they're still sweet, clean romances. You'll enjoy them, I promise! :) Just forward your purchase confirmation e-mail to me at dlathamwrites@yahoo.com after you buy LEA'S GIFT. I'll get that FREE pdf right out to you. Here's a little bit about LEA'S GIFT:
At twenty-one, Lea Dale is well-adjusted and happy, despite the facial scars she's carried since infancy. She has friends in high places (with a connection to angels); possesses colorful vision (since for some reason she can see auras around folks); and her family and friends adore her. Corrective surgery is a possibility, but not one Lea has felt the need to consider…until wealthy investor Laren Meadows walks into her life and turns it upside down. Suddenly, Lea is painfully conscious of her lack of perfection, given Laren's flawless looks and ultra-charming personality. What a blessing that he's attracted to her despite her scars—and even her special angel seems to approve of the match.
Then a secret from Laren's past threatens to destroy any hope of a future for the two of them. Now there's only one way for Lea to know if Laren's love is true, but taking that action could mark the end of their relationship.
Can love survive such a tangled mess of physical and emotional scars?
And here are those pre-written posts I promised.

Review: Knowing God by Name
by Sharon JaynesGwen Smith& Mary Southerland(Girlfriends in God)
We talk about God. We think we know Him. We belt out songs with titles like "El Shaddai" and "Adonai." We skim over writings that use names like Yahweh and Abba. We've seen and heard these names so many times we don't even notice them anymore…and the truth is, we may not even have a clue what they mean.
And those are just the "familiar" ones.
God has a multitude of names…each of them referencing yet another awesome aspect of His grace, mercy, love, healing, and power. All the things He does for His people every day, every hour, every moment.
Do you know Him by name? How many? And do those names mean to you what they should? How can you glory in His holy name if you do not know that name?
KNOWING GOD BY NAME,written by the "Girlfriends in God," (Sharon Jaynes, Gwen Smith and Mary Southerland) is an eye-opening, soul-refreshing, heart-stirring look at God's character—His multi-layered "personality" attributes…His astounding mercy and grace and love for us, His children. It's a down-to-earth, easy-to-understand study of those names and what they mean—not only by literary definition, but by their purpose in our lives. What a wonderful blessing these ladies have shared with the world! Don't miss your turn at the table. Knowing God by Name will change your world and take your relationship with your Father to a whole new level. Sharon Jaynes is former VP and radio co-host of Proverbs 31 Ministries, as well as an author and frequent speaker for women's events, television, and radio. Gwen Smith, author, speaker, worship leader, and award-winning songwriter, has been featured on major television programs. Mary Southerland is an international speaker and author of books that help women who struggle with stress and depression, offering a weekly online Bible study to 17,000 subscribers. Together Sharon, Gwen, and Mary share Girlfriends in God online devotions, read daily by over 500,000.

Coppersmith Dean Whitfield hasn’t celebrated Christmas—or anything else—since the death of his wife and unborn child. And he certainly has no desire to carry on the family tradition of crafting a star for the town’s Christmas tree, even if it will benefit a charity. Can Darcy and the joy of the season thaw his frozen heart and help him love again?

Guest Author: Clare Revell (Saturday's Child)
My fellow Pelican Book Group
author, Clare Revell, visited this blog in April of 2012, talking about Monday's Child, the series she'd recently contracted. She would be writing a novel
for each "child" of the week. Here's the rewritten poem that is the
concept behind the series:
Monday’s
Child must hide for protection,
Tuesday’s
Child tenders direction
Wednesday’s
Child grieves for his soul
Thursday’s
Child chases the whole
Fridays
Child is a man obsessed
Saturday’s
Child might be possessed
And
Sunday’s Child on life’s seas is tossed
Awaiting
the Lifeboat that rescues the lost.
Yes, I know, people...it's fascinating! Makes you want to rush right over and get your copy, doesn't it? Well, today's your lucky day! Links are provided in this post to help you do just that... :)
And today, Clare's
back. She's made it all the way to Saturday's Child, which released yesterday,
November 5th. I'm in awe of this author's talent,
imagination, and dogged determination. She writes all these books around a
house full of kids and the activity and hard work a full house entails. To me,
that makes her Super Woman! Lol
But let's talk
to the lady herself.
Welcome back toLiving the Write Life, Clare! I'm looking forward to reading SATURDAY'S CHILD, especially since, from what I understand, there are elements of darkness the
other books did not include. Tell us about that.
Yes,
this is nothing like I've written before, and from what I understand, a first
for Pelican Book Group too. Saturday's Child deals with spiritual warfare,
demons, exorcisms on a very in your face way. It was only written in the
daylight and with the Lord's Prayer on every page and with hymns playing in the
background.
You played that exactly right, my friend. ): What inspired
you to write a book written around these issues, which can sometimes be quite
controversial?
With
one exception, every single incident in the book concerning the demons happened
to us in our previous home. There were never any actual voices that we heard
(and I never touched a ouija board or seance either). Everything else—the
mirrors, pictures, texts, the bed etc, happened to me. There's a lot of
interest in that kind of thing and I wanted to show that it happens to
Christians as well. If not more so. After all, we're in a war, and the devil
will use his whole army against us in an effort to defeat us.
Amen! I completely agree. One of my
upcoming novellas includes dark spirits, and I must say…it seemed that I fought
them myself throughout the entire process of writing the book. Did writing
SATURDAY'S CHILD prove more difficult for you—for the reason I mentioned, or
any other?
Yes,
there was great spiritual opposition. We had problems in our family life, major
issues that we'd never dealt with before. I didn't want to write - and for
someone who writes constantly (except on a Sunday) that was unusual. Even
though the book had been contracted, I even asked not to write it. Nicola said
that was just another reason it needed writing. So I persisted with it.
Nicola is a wise woman. :) I'm glad she encouraged you along. Can you share
anything at all about the one remaining book in the series, SUNDAY'S CHILD?
Sunday's
Child - I had the best time researching that one. I spent the day on a lifeboat
station, on an island off the south coast, talking to the crew, going over the
boat and taking loads of photos :) The hero, Cal, works for the RNLI - a purely
voluntary service who work alongside the Coastguard, going out in all weathers
to rescue boats, surfers, swimmers, basically anyone who gets into difficulty
off the shores of the UK. I don't yet have a date for this one to be released.
Sounds like a lot of fun. :) I know the book will be amazing - just like all of yours.
I always ask the authors I interview
about their favorite verse sof scripture. In our last interview, your answer was
1 Peter
5:7 - Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. (Beautiful, encouraging, sustaining verse, by the way!) I'm curious, though…have
any of your experiences while writing this series changed that answer? If so,
why – and , of course, what is your new favorite?
Still
my favourite. Especially after writing this one :)
I can see that. Well, as I think
I mentioned in our last interview, I consider the entire concept of the Monday's Child series
pure genius. I so admire your creativity and imagination, Clare. God bless you
in all your endeavors!
About the book:
Saturday's Child might be possessed...
Aaron Field is a
farmer. He’s sworn off parties and bonfires, and being more concerned with
losing his farm than anything else, he has little time for church. When his
field is hired by the church for a Guy Fawkes night bonfire, Aaron is ill-prepared
for the feisty Welsh woman who steps onto his land and into his heart.
Meaghan Knight is a
farmer’s daughter. It’s her job to make sure the church’s bonfire party runs
smoothly, and if that means ironing out the kinks in surly Farmer Field then
that’s what she’ll do. When she finds out what’s really behind his attitude,
she feels ill-prepared to face his history, his family, and the danger.
As Aaron and Meaghan
join forces, they discover an evil so demonic it threatens not only the farm,
but their lives, as well. Meaghan knows God can prevail, but first she has to
convince Aaron not to give up.
Excerpt:
Aaron glanced across
the room at the mirror. For a moment, he was sure he saw four reflections. He
blinked hard and looked again. Three people—Jack, Meggie, and him. Just as
there should be.
Then there was a
fourth. Exactly as Meggie and Nancy had described. Red eyes, narrowed in
hatred. Pointed ears, and sharp teeth. The cowl pulled around the face, the
figure seemed to be pushing the glass forward, as if it were trying to break
through. His insides jarred violently, and Aaron backed away, standing between
the mirror and Meggie. “Jack…”
Pastor Jack stood,
still pale, but color gradually returning. He handed the phone back to Meggie.
“Your brother and the elders of his church are praying for us now.”
The front door
opened and slammed shut. Footsteps in the hall seemed to grow closer and the
door to the hallway flung open. But there was no physical presence standing
there.
“Get out!” A deep
voice reverberated through the kitchen, shaking the glass in the dresser and
making the lamp shade swing from side to side.
Meggie screamed in
terror.
Aaron grabbed her,
holding her tightly, his own heart pounding violently as brutal fear gripped
him.
Meggie tugged on
Aaron’s arm. “We should get out of here,” she cried.
“Stand firm.” Pastor
Jack’s voice, deep, resolute and full of authority, filled the room.

Clash of the Titles's Birthday Giveaway
Besides giving away a fantastic
Birthday Bundle of Books,
Clash of the Titles is showcasing another
can't-pass-it-up new release.
Soul of the Roseby Ruth Trippy
ABOUT THE BOOK:
"And the soul of the rose went into my blood..." This line from a Tennyson poem enchants young Celia Thatcher, who supposes every woman's heart hopes to be the rose that captivates a man. Celia is searching for her own sense of hope after the tragic death of her closest friend. Moving in 1876 to work in a Massachusetts bookstore to start life afresh, she soon catches the eye of not one, but two men: the elite but unkempt Edward Lyons and the charming law student Charles Harrod. One is hiding from his past and from God. The other promotes a religious belief Celia had never before considered. Both leave Celia wondering if either are right for her. When one of her suitors is accused of murder, Celia is challenged with a deeper choice: should she follow her heart or her faith?
ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Ruth Trippy was born in western Michigan to a Dutch family with values similar to the Victorian era she loves. She left home to teach high school language arts in Florida, focusing on American and British literature, and also pursued her interest in apologetics. In addition, she worked as Public Service Director for a radio station in Ft. Lauderdale.
Her writing originated from experiences in her marriage. Her husband was a tough, adventurous Louis L'Amour type individual and needing encouragement in the relationship, she found it in the pages of a 19th century romance novel.

Guest Author: Kimberly Rose Johnson
It's a pleasure to introduce debut author Kimberly Rose Johnson.
Kimberly was kind enough to host me on her beautiful blog when LEXI'S
HEART released. We had a great
chat with her readers, talking about angels. It was a highlight in my promo for
that release, and I promised her a return "hosting session" upon the
release of her book. I'm thrilled to be able to further her promotional efforts
in a small way.
Kimberly's novel, THE CHRISTMAS PROMISE , is set in Leavenworth, Washington and
sounds like a perfect Christmas read. I haven't had the pleasure of reading it
yet, but I absolutely will be doing so—and soon!
Here's a blurb:
DR. PETE HARDING DOESN'T DATE SINGLE MOMS
No matter how lovely Keira
Noble's smile, or how adorable her four-year-old son. He's been down that road
before and knows it can lead to a broken heart. But that doesn't mean he can't
help the pretty widow find a puppy to put under the Christmas tree for her
son….
Pete claims he only wants to help
her find the perfect gift for Cody. Yet Keira can't deny the tender feelings in
his eyes whenever he looks at her. Could this handsome Scrooge have a change of
heart, and create a new family for Christmas?
Fun stuff, don't you think? Can't wait to read this one.
Kimberly will be signing her books in a Leavenworth
bookstore on November 9th. Here's the promotional piece that bookstore published:
Meet Northwest native Kimberly
Rose Johnson when she signs copies of her Christmas novel set in Leavenworth,
The Christmas Promise. You will feel as though you have met each of the
characters in the shops or post office.
Keira Noble is a young, working
mother who was widowed when her husband died tragically in an auto accident one
snowy winter. Four years later, it is Christmas time and she meets the single,
new veterinarian in town, Pete Harding, and a possible love connection emerges.
But it might quickly dissolve when Pete says he doesn’t date single mothers.
His actions soon speak otherwise and gives Keira hope that maybe Pete has
changed his mind.
The Christmas Promise is the
first of three in a series. The next books are scheduled for publication in
2014.
About the author:
Kimberly married her college sweetheart and is a graduate of Northwest
University. She lives in the Pacific Northwest with her husband, two teenage
sons and their yellow lab. Kimberly is an avid reader and loves romance,
suspense and romantic suspense. She enjoys playing the piano, hiking and coffee
with friends. She loves hearing from her fans. You can connect with her on her
website at http://kimberlyrjohnson.com/
Well, that's the official scoop. But come along…let’s talk
to the lady herself!
Kimberly, thank you for joining me on “Living the Write Life.” Relax, get
comfortable, and tell us about yourself…who is Kimberly Johnson, the gal next
door?
Thanks
for having me!
I
am the neighbor who likes to take long walks with her husband and dog every
evening rain or shine. If you walked into my home you’d find stacks of books
scattered here and there along with a bookcase filled to overflowing—not
pretty.
On
sunny days I enjoy a cup of coffee outside on my patio even if I have to wrap
up in a blanket to keep warm. LOL
One
of the highlights of my week is attending the ladies Bible study at my church.
A writer’s life is rather secluded, so this makes my time in Bible study all
the more appreciated.
Well, you sound like the perfect neighbor. Wanna come live next door to
me? lol
Congratulations on your debut novel! That's such an exciting time for
an author.
What inspired the storyline for THE
CHRISTMAS PROMISE?
My
agent suggested I try to write to market. I had been writing romantic suspense
and not succeeding in making a sale. I thought about what draws me to books and
it’s usually the setting.
Leavenworth,
WA came to mind and I decided it would be the perfect place to
write a
Christmas story. I booked train tickets for my mom and myself and two
weeks
later we pulled into Leavenworth ready for inspiration.
After
walking around our first day there the story gradually began to unfold in my
mind.
My
husband has family in town so I was able to pick their brains for any local
details I needed.
Hands-on research—that's the best kind!
This is never an easy question, but
it's one I love to ask. I've found that the authors, after their initial
I-have-no-idea initial reaction, are always glad, afterward, to know the answer
for themselves.
What is your favorite scene from this
book? Why that scene?
I think my favorite scene is the one
where Pete and Keira first meet. I love reading that scene because I know
what’s to come and it puts a smile on my face.
Now aren't you glad you've identified your favorite scene, and exactly why you love it? J
Yep.
J
So this is Book 1 in a series of
three. What an accomplishment to have snagged a contract for a 3-book series!
Kudos, Kimberly! Can you tell us a
little bit about the next book?
Thanks! Sure. Book two, A ROMANCE REKINDLED, is the story of Keira’s best friend Susan.
Here’s a little blurb.
CPA
SUSAN HILL thought she’d never find true love, especially after her fiancé
dumped her just weeks before their wedding. She’s content being auntie to her
two nephews and also her best friends son. But now that BLAKE MITCHELL has come
back to town her heart betrays her. She resists his charm and good looks, but
there’s only so much a girl can handle.
Blake
never told Susan the real reason he’d called off their wedding and left town in
a rush, but now that he is back the truth must come out. What will she think of
his expanded family? But most importantly will she be able to forgive him for
leaving her six years ago?
Oooh…sounds great! What is the most
beneficial writing advice you’ve ever been given?
Learn
the craft and never give up. Okay that’s two lol, but I couldn’t help myself.
LOL! We'll take both of 'em. J With
so many beautiful ones to choose from, do you have a favorite verse of scripture?
I
almost hate to say it because I know so many people quote it, but it truly is a
verse I quote often. Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you,”
declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you
hope and a future.
Don't ever hate to say it. It's a wonderful verse!
OK—gotta do something just for fun…if you were a Crayola, what color
would you be?
Hmm,
wow, I’ve never thought of myself in
terms of a color. Perhaps red, because I blush easily.
No! With that beautiful hair color of yours, I'm astonished! J
Where can readers find your book? And do you have a website or blog,
where we can keep up with you and your writing activities?

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Amanda Flower started her writing career in elementary school when she read a story she wrote to her sixth grade class and had the class in stitches with her description of being stuck on the top of a Ferris wheel. She knew at that moment she’d found her calling of making people laugh with her words. Her debut mystery, Maid of Murder, was an Agatha Award Nominee for Best First Novel and the first in a series featuring amateur sleuth India Hayes. Like her main character, Amanda is an academic librarian for a small college near Cleveland. She is a member of American Christian Fiction Writers, Mystery Writers of America, and Sisters in Crime. Her next mystery, Murder in a Basket, was released in January 2012 from Five Star. In July 2012, her first Amish mystery, A Plain Death, was released from B&H. For Penguin/NAL she writes under the pen name Isabella Alan. Visit her online at www.amandaflower.com. REVIEW:
"The third installment of the outstanding Appleseed Creek series is a mystery with twists and turns and an unexpected ending that will keep readers up until the wee hours of the morning. Readers are reunited with characters from the first two books and will meet some new ones. Flower has hit it out of the ballpark with this series and continues to amaze with her knowledge of the Amish way of life."- 4 1/2 stars Top Pick RT Book Reviews
