“BC”

A few weeks ago, while walking around Bozeman, I saw this graffiti penned on the side of a stop light control box. I liked the sentiment, especially given the nature of the rest of the box’s imagery. I snapped a picture and used it as the base for what you see above.

While I don’t endorse graffiti, I do find the confluence of mainstream and “counter-culture” to be quite interesting. In this case, I really wonder who it was that wielded the pen, as well as who designed the box. What would they say to each other if they had a conversation?

The more I look for it, the more I see these types of mini-conflicts, where ideas and ideals clash. The 24-Hour News Cycle is an obvious source, but there is more to be learned in subtle things, not those screaming for attention.

Readings of My Poetry Available On Patreon

I’ve begun doing audio readings of some of my poetry. The latest, titled “The Explorer,” was a lot of fun to produce. It’s interesting attempting to convey additional meaning using my voice. The audio is available to all levels of Patrons (as little as $1 a month). I’ll be uploading more readings in the future, both of already released poems, as well as Patron exclusive work.

Sanctuary of the Cage (Poem)

My place. My home. My heart.

A place full. A place of me. My place.

I swing across wire mesh, try to find contentment in golden rays of sun.

I watch the flow of movement, watch the eyes of those outside.

They shuffle by, some laugh, or grumble, or yell. Some pay no attention at all.

Why am I here? What is my purpose?

I quit speaking with the others long ago.

There is nothing to say.

We live in rhythm, predictable.

Nothing is new, nothing novel.

I’ve lost track of days, of memory of anything other than here.

Food comes, I eat. Dark descends, I sleep.

It’s safe here, and that feels good.

What more could I need?

This is my place. This is my sanctuary.

Patreon Launch and Week 1/5 Giveaway

Today, I launched my Patreon page. If you are unfamiliar with Patreon, it is a way for people to support their favorite artists and become their patrons. In return, the artist can give rewards and special content. I have some pretty cool bonuses for my patrons, so I encourage you to check out my page. I’ve also provided a write up there that gives more detail as to why I’m launching on Patreon and what I’m planning to do for my supporters.

With December upon us and only 5 weeks left until the release of Harbingers of the Dawn, it’s time to start the giveaways! The first week’s prize is a copy of Breakers of the Dawn (eBook) for you and a friend, as well as a commissioned piece of digital art for you!

Here is how to enter:

On this Facebook post, this tweet, this Instagram post and/or this page, create a comment and tag the friend you’d like to enter. You can submit as many times as you like, on as many posts as you like, but it has to be a different friend each time.

New/Now (Poem)

New. A second, minute, moment, year, yourself.

Now. Be you. Be here. Be present. Be patient.

Endings. Face with strength. Growth, opportunities, possibilities.

Beginnings. You. New. Hope. Dream.

New Website / Blog

Today, my new website / blog went live. I changed hosts, mainly to provide a better user experience. Having the blog and website be on separate pages always felt wonky to me, so I was finally able to get things combined.

Converting everything over to a new host was difficult, but worth the effort. If you happen to find any errors or links that don’t work, please tell me. I’d really appreciate it. Also, let me know what you like or dislike about this new setup. I’m more than happy to make things better!
