Happy Hanukkah!
Potato latkes with sour cream or applesauce or BOTH are among my favorite holiday foods…or ANY DAY foods, too! But they are especially good on a cold Hanukkah night. And after this yummy treat? An even yummier one! I like any fruity rugelach, but sour cherry is my all time fave.
And why not follow something sweet with something sweeter? Fab bakery Eleni’s in New York offers these fun cookies and lots more for the Festival of Light.

Happy Thanksgiving!
Turkeys walk among us!
Trying to fit in…
Trying not to stand out…
And some among us are turning the tables!
And practicing RUNNING.
Why?
Because it’s Thanksgiving! And time to say a little prayer.
For each new morning with its light,
For rest and shelter of the night,
For health and food,
For love and friends,
For everything that goodness sends.
—Ralph Waldo Emerson
Finally, let’s share our favorite joke of the season!
Can turkeys jump higher than buildings?
Yes! Buildings can’t jump at all.

Grime for art
At some point in our lives, we’ve all seen a dusty car and written something on the grime. “That dirty car was asking for it,” is my excuse for such bad behavior. I always write “Wash Me.” It’s a classic! Other people let their imaginations soar. Looking for an excuse to avoid washing your car? Leave it in hopes that someone will decorate it with something as good as this!

Scare raid
Haunted houses are the place to be at the end of October. You might just run into one in your neighborhood, especially if you live near some creepy woods.
Nightmares Fear Factory in Niagara Falls, California offers one of the scariest haunted house experiences on the earthly realm. As proof of their fearsome awesomeness, they’ve taken pictures of Halloween revelers looking for a fright on their premises. Behold the power of THE BOO!

Do NOT try this at home
Casey “Animal Magnet” Anderson runs his own personal wildlife sanctuary, Montana’s Grizzly Encounter Wildlife Sanctuary. Brutus the bear was born in an overcrowded bear reserve, where he was doomed to live most of his life in a cage. But luck was on Brutus’s side. Casey decided to adopt him!
The two have since become best buddies. Brutus shows his gratitude by coming over for dinner and NOT EATING Casey.
Sometimes, it’s just the two of them at an informal outdoor meal. AGAIN, the menu DOES NOT FEATURE Casey!
Needless to say, this is a special relationship, and by SPECIAL I mean ONE IN A BILLION. Nature’s golden rule still applies. DO NOT GO NEAR A BEAR! Even Casey and Brutus will tell you that.

Yoda in a jar
Yoda looks at home in this terrarium by Minneapolis artist Tony Larson, and no wonder. It’s a recreation of the Master Jedi’s planet, Dagobah. Stop by Tony’s Etsy store, and you can enjoy a bit of your favorite Star Wars planetary system in your own home. Tony’s amazing terrariums include the Forest of Endor and the desert of Tatooine, where R2D2 is just about to meet his fateful encounter with scavenging Jawas. Watch out, R2!
