Food flags
This year, the Sydney International Food Festival featured national flags using foods each country is commonly associated with. Traveling is delicious when taste buds are tourists!
Italy: basil, pasta, and tomatoes
⬇️
India: curry chicken, rice, cheera thoran, and papadum wafer
⬇️
Lebanon: tomatoes, pita bread, and parsley
⬇️
Greece: olives and feta cheese
⬇️
Great Britain: scone, cream, and jam
⬇️
France: blue cheese, brie cheese, and red grapes
And the USA? Hot dogs, ketchup, and mustard, of course!

Cool hedgehog!
Hedgehogs are adorable. That’s my opinion—but it’s also a fact!
And they are small enough to fit in your hand.
Or both hands, if you have a matching pair!
Every winter for the past 19 years, the Swedish town of Luleå has unveiled an ice animal sculpture by artist Hans Englund. This year’s impressive contribution is a 12-ton hedgie.
Made of ice and snow, this cool hedgehog will only last till the thaw of Spring. Until then, it rules!

Peace be with us
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.

Ice pops
Blowing soap bubbles is always a magical experience. The way the gossamer, iridescent orbs float on the breeze is a joy to behold. Here’s a boy in Rwanda showing how it’s done.
And here are the gossamer, iridescent orbs, floating on the breeze.
Each is as lovely and fragile as a dewdrop.
Angela Kelly, a photographer from the Pacific Northwest, looks at ordinary things with a fresh perspective. She woke up one chilly morning this winter and decided to blow soap bubbles in the frigid air. They quickly froze and sank to the ground.
Encased in ice, a soap bubble is just as lovely, just as fragile, just as magical, and even more mysterious.
And how do the two kinds pop…?

Why Santa needs glasses
Letters to the North Pole have gotten more complicated in the modern age. There is just one item on this list, and already I can see Kris Kringle squinting!

Sweet tinsel
Not all the glitter is on the tree for the holidays. There’s nothing like a Christmas cookie that sparkles. Here are a few that put a gleam in my eye!
