Gary Webb Many authors won't care for my suggestion, but here goes! The first and most important thing that you should do is to read - read a lot. Read books and articles in your favorite niches, but also read voluminously (big word, but in the dictionary) about the craft of writing. Since I write nonfiction books, I would urge the nonfiction authors out there to sign up for Kindle Unlimited so they can read books by other authors in your category without having to pay for them. I read several every month. If you want specific advice, you can contact me via my website (www.mgwebb.net).
Gary Webb I have no idea. I just write about what interests me (after doing a few days of thorough keyword analysis to make sure that it will sell). If it won't sell, then it goes to the trash or to a blog article. Even then, I try to make it transmit value to the reader. Keeping the readers in mind really helps. I also try to listen to people when they write or talk about problems they are tackling. Then, I write something about it as soon as possible. I do have a list of about 50 books that I would like to write. I look at those from time to time. That encourages me that the well isn't dry!
Gary Webb I'm working on my third book in the self-publishing niche. It is about book promotion and already has plenty of potential buyers bugging me to get it done! I love that!
Gary Webb Don't just write a little and expect to succeed. Don't expect courses to make you into a successful writer. Write a lot of stuff! If you are a novelist, try writing a lot of short stories that could later be expanded into books. If you are a nonfiction author start blogging on your favorite topics. Keep yourself writing something every day that it is possible. If you are in a coma, you have my permission to take a short break.
Gary Webb I change the subject of my writing to something else. I may shift over to add an entry to my blog, write some emails, whatever. The best cure for "writer's block" is writing - writing something, anything.
Another trick is to end your writing session with an incomplete section (but with a clue to what comes next). When you return, you are ready to start up again where you left off. If you completely finish one section, your system tells you that you are done. It is hard to visualize what comes next when that happens.
