What mystery in your own life could be a plot for a book?

Rohini Sunderam Quite a few, but one particular one will some day be a story. It's about a prayer book inherited from a grand aunt with handwritten poetry of an exceptional quality in it, that made me wonder: who was she, really?

If you could travel to any fictional book world, where would you go and what would you do there?

Rohini Sunderam If I could travel to any fictional book world, I'd like to go to Arrakis in Frank Herbert's Dune series. What would I do there? I'd be a Bene Gesserit nun!

Thanks, Rohini, for recognizing my poem "Shall I Compare This to a Summer's Day." I had fun writing it for a Creative Writing class that I teach. I think most of the allusions went over my students' heads, but I hoped that well-read poetry readers would catch them. ??

Rohini Sunderam I thought your poem was fantastic. I thoroughly enjoyed the allusions, but i wonder whether they're only accessible to readers of a certain age. A category into which i fall.

Who is your favorite fictional couple, and why?

Rohini Sunderam This is hard to answer as I like the charged emotions between Scarlett O'Hara and Rhett Butler from Gone with the Wind and the underlying tension between Cathy and Heathcliff from Wuthering Heights, but I think best of all I like Jay Gatsby and Daisy because there is something so fleeting, sad and complex in their love.

Rohini Sunderam The process, the time alone with your thoughts, and when a reader connects with what one's trying to say.

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Rohini Sunderam Start writing. The rest of the story will come to you when you least expect it, the verse will force its way from your heart to your pen/ keyboard, and as it all unfolds the tension inside from not writing will slowly wear away... until another story or poem or character starts to demand your attention.
