I'm going to call my most recent book, Ruby Ridge. There was some training I was doing for dealing with Hazardous materials, radiation, poisons and such. So I wrote about it. I sat and wrote Ruby Lake, and at some point, I had a huge book. I didn't think anyone would read a gigantic novel from a new author, so I cut it off. Then, I had to finish the part I cut off, so I called it Ruby Ridge. At the end of that, there was no way to finish that, so there is the next one, Ruby Rising. I think I created a monster and it's growing!

I get ideas of how to get my characters into trouble, and then how to get them out of it. They are mini-stories. If I like it, I write it. If I don't, I think of something else.

I am currently working on a spy/thriller. When I get stuck, I bounce to my third Sci-fi, Ruby Rising, until I come up with an idea for the last.

Write. Don't ask permission or seek approval to write. Just write. That's the biggest thing. Don't talk to anyone about it, just sit and write. It's like you enter your own little private universe where an entire world is being created in your head, the people, their emotions and reactions - everything. Only you can do that, nobody else can enter, so keep everyone around from trying. Just write.

Freedom. I also love to tell stories in general. People say, "Write what you know." So I did, except for aliens and zombies and the destruction of Earth and alien invasions and underground bunkers and...., alright, so maybe I didn't, although I may have worked for some and maybe even dated one or two, maybe.

I have three books going. I often write myself into a corner and wonder how the @#$% am I going to get out of that one. So I might jump to another book for a bit. I don't really suggest that, but it is what I am doing.
As far as being totally blocked to where I can't get my mind going, I take a break. Look at the book and see what my purpose was for writing it. Often, I strayed to something else. Usually it's easy to fix.
