I like couples who don't make grand displays of love. They're fantastic, don't get me wrong, but the day to day love is the kind I like to see in fiction. The realistic love that isn't a thousand flowers in the living room, but the lawn mowed. Not diamond necklaces, but a note on the kitchen table. Instead of talking about how someone would die for someone else, I like to hear them say how they'll live for the other person. It's better in the real world, and I like it better in my fiction too.

Write. Then go out and absorb other stories. Movies, video games, books- all of it. When you've finished doing that, write more.

How do I get inspired? I don't. I just sit down and write. Inspiration comes and goes, it's not reliable enough to build a career on.

The ideas for my books just come to me. Some of them are stories I've been thinking about for a long time, years in some cases. Others are the right before bed ideas that won't let me sleep. Darker Shadows Lie Below was one of those.
