E.C. Murray A Long Way from Paris is based on my true life experiences in the south of France. Reviewing old journals led me to write about my reflections and experiences.
E.C. Murray I am inspired. I lost so many years not writing, I don't want to lose a minute. I cut out any non-essential activities in my life, so writing takes second first place after my family.
Reading inspires me. My students inspire me. I literally saved my money to study writing (at the University of Washington and Richard Hugo House) under the mattress so I wouldn't spend it on anything else. I listen well to what other authors say which why I ended at Southampton studying last summer.
E.C. Murray A light mystery which takes place in a small town in Washington state, but flows from Northampton, Mass and even on to La Serena, Chile. After writing A Long Way from Paris, which drained me as I poured myself into it, a light mystery sounded fun.
E.C. Murray Spend more time learning to write well than learning how to publish. I followed advice given to me: read 100 books of your genre. Take classes from a variety of teachers. Write your 1,000 hours. Find people who will give you honest feedback. Leave critics who don't inspire you to keep writing. Be willing to grow a hard shell.
E.C. Murray Following my dream. Meeting people who share my passion. In memoir, the best thing is the joy (this is the hardest part, too) in getting to the essence of emotions, heart, and soul.
E.C. Murray From the time I wrote my first play (2nd grade) to the time I published my first book, decades and decades passed.. When I got back to writing, I regretted the time I'd lost and felt determined to stick to my life long dream of being a writer. One trick for me during "uninspiring" moments is to set my alarm for 45 minutes. Anyone can write for just 45 minutes and usually, after the 45 minutes, I'm on a roll and keep writing.
