Inspiration hits randomly. I can be reading, writing, watching television, watching a movie, playing video games, or just sitting around lazily. Then I get the idea for a situation or a character, and think on it for a while to build a complete story around it. Sometimes, but certainly not all the time, inebriation helps this process. Usually, I don't make an outline. I just will start writing and see where things go organically. So far, it has worked for me very well.

My most recent completed book is Counting Losses. A lot of it is based on things that have happened to me, but I had to add events in order to make the story flow better. That's why I don't consider it an autobiography.

I usually work on several projects at once, so that if I get bored, or if I get writer's block, I have something else to make progress on. Currently, I've got a western, a sci-fi/mystery, and a dramatic thriller.

Never think you can't learn anything more. You may be very talented, but never stop pushing yourself to better your talent or your style. Take creative writing classes, and keep reading other's work.

The best thing about being a writer is that your story may be the exact thing someone needs to read to get over something they are dealing with, or just the thing they need to escape their troubles. Everyone needs an escape sometimes, and I am glad to help you escape.

The best way I can get over writers block is to just stop thinking about it. Take a break, exercise, take a shower, or work on another story. Just relax and the ideas will come on their own.
