Hello Charlene. I have tried to deviate and my first novel should be out soon which deviates tremendously from outright horror, but I found myself still writing dark passages because that is the way my mind works. The book after that will be extremely true to life. When I have deviated, there has always been a sliver of darkness, but I have been happy with the results.

For me, every day that I open my eyes in the morning (or afternoon) is an inspiration. There are two things that I constantly do: I am a people watcher. I am interested in the why, and play with that idea and usually a story will simply come out of nowhere. We all have little quirks or funny saying that we use all the time without even thinking about it and sometimes a stranger's idiosyncrasies will spark an idea; I also have one question floating around my mind with each breath I take...what if? It could be a serious what if or a fantastical one. Take any situation, ask yourself what if, and inspiration will strike. You will come up with your own answer. Write about it.

The only advise I can give or will ever give to an aspiring writer is this: constantly read, and write every day.

I avoid writer's block by having at least two stories in progress simultaneously. If my mind demands a rest from one, I move to the other.

I love watching people and the situations they (myself included) often find themselves in. For me, an awkward occurrence is fodder that feeds the next idea. I also always wonder, What would happen if..., creating a slightly twisted take on everyday happenstance. My mind drifts towards to darker side of that what if question.

I am currently working on a second, longer, book of short stories as well as my first novel, Blood Makes the Grass Grow.
