Why are some scammers/tricksters so utterly convincing?
Why do some people feel the need to change their identity?
(I could think of lots more!)

Sister B 2 (It hasn't got its title yet - all ideas welcome!) and a collection of short stories.

Very, very occasionally you look at something and think it is as good as you can make it (for now, anyway).
The best thing of all about Best Wishes, Sister B is the lovely readers who have contacted me and told me it made them laugh. Some have said it got them through horrible times like nasty treatments or hospital stays. If it's done that, I'm really happy.

I don't rely on inspiration. I find that just writing, even when I don't feel much like it, always works best. I do have times when a hundred ideas flood into my head all at once, though. That happens most often when I'm travelling. If I get really stuck, I just go somewhere and watch and listen to people. You can't do that for long without a story beginning to form.

When my husband was ill, I started to write him letters on the train as I travelled to work. I wanted him to have a reason to walk to the letter box at home, so I posted them in London and they were delivered the next day. I soon ran out of things to say about the daily commute, so I started to invent characters and wrote in their voices. I wanted to make him laugh, but also to keep him guessing, so he never knew from day to day which character was writing. Eventually our favourite character was Sister B. She's funny because she's innocent and doesn't really understand the modern world. She and the other sisters have a lot of problems, but they are indomitable and cheerful, so their world is a gentle one to escape to.
