Chris Page Ha ha ha! In answer to this question, I always want to say "Give up now! The market is already too crowded!" But that's not a nice thing to say. A better answer is: the best way to get anything written is to write. You have to put in the hours. Hours and hours and hours. Of course, a glass or two of red wine help enormously.
Chris Page I don't think I do get inspired to write. Writing and drawing seem to be some kind of compulsion. It's a bit like living with a disability because it needs to be constantly accommodated. Ideas are always popping into the head and you need to stop what you are doing to jot them down. Most are unusable rubbish, but that doesn't stop them nagging you.
Chris Page Ideas normally just jump out of the shadows and ambush you. Who knows where they come from or why they lurk in shadows. King of the Undies World came about through some idle and facetious brainstorming with myself. The Underpants Tree came out of King. At one point, the main man, Hades Gousset remarks "Underpants don't grow on trees, you know", and a light went on in my head: Ah, but what if they do? I think there may be a not entirely surprising explanation of where Weed came from on chris-page.com which is an excuse to go visit it.
Chris Page I am currently doing two things. I am editing the follow-up to King of the Undies World. The sequel is called The Underpants Tree and should be done in a few months. I have drafted the whole story and now need to polish and get the cover sorted. I do all my own covers. I am also working on a couple of sites that are not yet fit for human consumption and a large glass of red wine that is very fit for human consumption.
Chris Page Writing is the best thing about being a writer. Thinking thoughts that really have no place in a normal day and then putting them down. Writers can make up entire universes and people them with whatever they want. That's pretty neat.
Also, a friend just told me he laughed while reading King of the Undies World, and that provoked some job satisfaction.
Chris Page I don't really do writer's block, he said smugly. If it does happen, I recommend a plunger. That usually get things unblocked. If the plunger isn't to hand, then a frying pan on the back of the head or a nice walk followed by a glass of red wine. Making myself sit down and get on with it is more of a challenge. I would be interested to hear how other people deal with that.
